Wow! What can I say except that this visit was amazing. We had a lovely welcome on arrival and that set the tone for the whole evening. Service was excellent, not too quick and not too slow and what was nice was each member of staff was equipped to answer any questions. Bonus point for training! Anything we asked was answered and even if it was a silly question to them they never made us feel stupid for asking. The food was just sublime. Every dish was like a food explosion of flavours. We had the best evening and couldnt stop talking about everything on the way home. Well done and thank you for a great time. We will definitely be back.

The service was excellent but I wasn't blown away by the food. I really enjoyed the squid ink pasta but the risotto primavera with pea & garlic was over garnished, too much radish and leaves on top of it, personally I like simplicity like my grandma used to make. The Herb Tortellini was quite bland and the cornish pollock was swimming in beans 😳 the overall lunch was ok but not memorable!!

A totally amazing experience for my birthday from my wife. We both love the ideas and creations when we have seen Angela on TV. Her restaurant lives up to its reputation and some. I have been fortunate eat in some other Michelin stared restaurants and this is one on the best. I would say this is close to a second, although I don't work for the guide.
The menu is excellent, chose upto 6 dishes, we could only manage 4, but wow, each course was amazing.
The staff were excellent, extremely knowledge about the dishes and the wine matched our tastes and the food perfectly. Definitely will return.

Just amazing. Everything was top 10. When you enter, you're welcomed warmly. When you're seated, you feel home immediately. True professionalism. Food is excellent, so is the wine / drink selection. So friendly staff that you just wonder if they knew you in advance... Book a table and enjoy.

A refined dining experience with impeccably solitcitous service. Small but beautiful plates from a kitchen dedicated to excellence in every dish, standouts include the tart and the smoked potato agnolotti. Gorgeous cocktails, including the option of ordering off menu. Only the lemon tart isn't quite the zingy delight I remember from my first visit, but there are other options for dessert fiends.

Had a lovely lunch at Murano yesterday before the restaurant closes for a month for a refurb. We always have the very good value set menu, 2 courses £45, 3 courses £50. 3 choices per course of truly delicious food. My descriptions wont do the dishes justice but we had farfalle with a delicate roast pepper sauce, hake with shaved fennel with a touch of chilli, and the most divine apricot, sorbet and verbena desert. Everything was delicious and the service friendly and faultless.

There was a set lunch menu and an à la carte menu ranging from 3 courses to 6 courses. I opted for 6 courses, which was £130.
Some Grissini sticks, focaccia, ham and olives arrived before my first course. These were generally pretty good, though I thought the focaccia was too salty. My first course was seared mackerel with beetroot. The fish was nicely cooked and had an added crunch brought on by the crispy skin. It went well with the sauce. But the beetroots could have had a more noticeable flavour. The veal crudo was great. The softness of the beef with the crunchiness of the parmesan crisp created a lovely textural contrast. The almond cream added a pleasant touch of sweetness and the beef sauce gave the dish an extra depth of flavour.
The herb tortellini was fresh. The flavour resembled that of pesto and the courgettes and herbs on top gave the dish a nice refreshing element. My dish of red mullet with courgette flower was reasonable but it was not as significant as some of the other dishes. It did not particularly stand out. The pork with rhubarb was good. However, I felt that the meat was slightly tough and overcooked. The large pork cracker beside it did not provide any flavour and was only really there for texture, which I thought was slightly a shame. But the sauces were very nice.
My dessert was chocolate and blood orange. The presentation was very cool and actually rather unexpected. It arrived in the form of a blood orange and chocolate base topped with a light vanilla cream. The cream was excellent. It was smooth and airy. The slightly bitter cacao sorbet with the tangy but sweet blood orange was a gorgeous combination. This was a delicious dessert.
Generally, this was a good meal but regrettably, I was not as impressed as I was after a dinner here in December 2021. I did not leave feeling as immensely satisfied and delighted as I did that time. I feel some dishes lacked flavour and thought. Nevertheless, there were once again some dishes that really stood out. Service was faultless.

Focaccia amazing, the pasta dish was very good too; the main dish was tasty, but not extraordinary. The deserts were good, especially the sorbet, there was some olive oil drizzled on top that took it to the next level. Service was good but for a Michelin I expected a bit more (like the time we had to wait to have the menu)

We recently dropped by Murano for a casual Friday lunch. Despite being plenty of options for high-end Italian dining in London, Murano is our go-to place for Italian food as it is my wife’s favourite. I think the term ‘Italian inspired’ would probably be more accurate, as Angela Hartnett also draws from her French training with Ramsay to include techniques and dishes which are more likely to see in a French restaurant. In saying that though, in recent months, I have noted that the cooking is heading back towards its Italian roots with less French inspired elements on the menu.

A fantastic experience - with every box checked in style - food, wine, ambience, service. Murano truly know how to make a special occasion memorable, and their hospitality and warm charm means a return visit, as soon as it is warranted. Highlights - the complimentary picnic, thatlemontart. It's Mayfair expensive, but I found the lunch menu to be pretty good value!

Murano began life as part of another Gordon Ramsay restaurant with his protegé, Angela Hartnett chosen to helm it. Subsequently with the economic down turn and Gordon Ramsay Holding suffering from financial strain, Angela was offered the option to buy out Ramsay’s share and take full control of the restaurant. This meant that she had full creative control of the menu. Nevertheless, a lot of Ramsay’s influence can still be seen in her cooking.

Though I try to write about as wide a variety of restaurants on these pages as I can manage, the unfortunate fact is that, as much as a side effect of PRs doing their job properly as this particular blogger's geeky fondness for the latest and greatest, posts do tend to lean towards newer restaurants. This is inevitable, and not always undesirable - after all, it's probably more useful for people to read a review of a restaurant they've not yet been to than one they already have - but it does mean that I have a short but significant list of very big names that have been around for years that I just have never got around to visiting.

Some of the gaps in my restaurant knowledge border on embarrassing. Perhaps the biggest red mark is Le Gavroche, Mayfair institution and one of the most influential kitchens in London, who have trained and nurtured some of the biggest names in classical French cooking in this country and continues, by all accounts (though obviously not mine, yet) to be a super place to have dinner. And what about Petrus, a commendably long-standing Gordon Ramsay operation about which very few people have a bad word to say, if they have anything to say at all.

One of many Ramsay protégés who stepped out on her own a few years ago and now has her name attached to an enviable collection of restaurants is Angela Hartnett. There's trendy Shoreditch bistro Merchants Tavern getting all the press and the youthful beardy crowd, there's a informal-but-still-quite-posh Harnett Holder & Co at the Lime Wood hotel out in the New Forest, which gathered a good number of positive blog posts when it opened last year. But when was the last time you read a report of her Mayfair flagship, opened six years ago and still going strong, Murano? So here's one.

What do you need to know about Murano? Well, firstly and perhaps most significantly it's in Mayfair and is therefore Not Cheap. Yes, there is a two course weekday lunch for £25 which looked pretty good, but prices for the menu proper start at £50 for two courses from the A La Carte and go all the way up to £85 for a five-course short tasting menu; these are prices with a significant weight of expectation behind them, even for this glitzy part of town.

By and large, though, expectations are fulfilled. Antipasti of (I think) some kind of speck was moist, salty and delicately sliced, and house breads were all fresh and warm paired with lovely grassy olive oil. These are the basics, really, for smart Italian restaurants and you'd expect anywhere charging these prices to have at least a decent bash at them, but it's still nice when it's all done so well.

Lamb breast, sweetbreads, ricotta and peas is always going to be a crowd-pleaser, too, a pile of impossibly light and fluffy ricotta paired with slow-cooked lamb and some of those glossy, cooked-but-firm dressed peas that probably took some poor guy ages to get right.

A lot of work had clearly gone into the other starter, a meticulously butchered rabbit that came in the form of a boned leg (I think), loin and little pancake-wrap things full of all sorts of other bits. Game chips added crunch, mustard added depth, and some mushrooms and a cheffy rabbit stock reduction added a glossy finish. This is exactly the kind of dish I want to see when I come somewhere like this, you really feel like it has taken someone a lot of time and effort to produce, and is worth the outlay.

Risotto, well, I'm not the world's biggest risotto fan but I can tell you my friend enjoyed it so there you go. Never really got the point of risotto; if you're running a marathon then I'm sure all those carbs are very useful, I just don't see why I'm expected to enjoy any more than a spoonful of savoury rice pudding in any other situation.

I love the things that high-end restaurants can do to chicken. Unlike many other people, I've never really fallen out of love with this most basic of birds; true, given the unspeakable horrors committed in its name in any number of high street fried chicken joints it's understandable many people instinctively steer clear of it, but handled properly it is still an incredibly rewarding beastie. Here, expertly tender breasts with golden crispy skin were arranged amongst earthy morels, soft-boiled breaded quails eggs, white asparagus, little blobs of (I think) chestnut purée, shaved parmesan and all came dressed in another one of those exquisitely silky reduced glazes. Accurate, confident cooking.

Desserts were colourful, summery, and fun. I know that much. Unfortunately I've largely forgotten what exactly they were, but one was some kind of strawberry and white chocolate mousse, I think, and the other one probably involved basil sorbet and apricot. Is it too much of an unfair generalisation to say that desserts are often a bit of an afterthought in high-end Italian restaurants? Yes? Alright, I won't say that, then.

But there you have it, an experience from start to finish almost impossible not to enjoy, from the supremely capable staff to the confident food, dishes of Italian influence using the best of British produce in clear and approachable ways. And given its location, and the clientele I spotted of a weekday lunchtime (over fifties in suits, of both sexes) it could hardly be blamed for doing anything else; this is, after all, a Mayfair restaurant for Mayfair, making a very good living for itself thank you very much.

So it's not Murano's fault I know about Artusi, or Trullo, or Zucca, and they're not to know I preferred my meal on Bellenden Road in Peckham with a bottle of £22 rosé and a plate of roast artichokes in bagna cauda. And I'm sure they couldn't care less that that meal cost fully a third of that price and was, in all honesty, just as impressive in as many ways. Murano doesn't have to care about any of those things, because there will always be people wanting the comfort and security of a nice deep tablecloth and a £45 bottle of Prosecco and don't mind paying for it. And in the end, there's really nothing wrong with that.

I was invited to review Murano.
This place is run by the protegee of a very well-known chef, and thus it piqued my interest. I decided to have lunch here, and I was ardently looking forward to it. We had one of the set lunches on the menu, and consisted of three tasty appetizers, two delicious main courses of roasted venison and Carnaroli risotto, and lemon cream dessert. To be honest, the food was tasty and well-cooked, but it was anything out of the ordinary. We were left feeling very underwhelmed, and there was nothing memorable about our experience. I recommend trying it out, but I am not sure if it is one of those places you can frequent regularly.

It was a run of the mill dessert I had when I visited this place. I ordered a peanut butter crumble with caramelized bananas. It was very unappealing and I also left some of it ion my platter when I left the place. I might not visit this place again.
The restaurant offers a delightful dining experience to its customers. Even though it has a long waiting queue, the wait is worth it. The dishes have an Italian influence and are pared down. The dishes come with complimentary sauces, which do not overpower the dish, but compliments its flavor. The ambiance is formal and the service is great, with no errors by the staff.

This place offers delicious food along with wonderful ambience but the factor which let us down was the service. Firstly, we weren't informed beforehand about the unavailability of some dishes that were listed on the menu and got to know when we had ordered. Although, the food quantity is less, it is really good. The staff could have been a little more attentive as they planned to clean our table even before asking for a dessert. The prices are typically that of any high end restaurant, even though the service is of a really bad standard and thus, I feel they need to work on it.

Murano had been on my restaurant wish list for ages, so when I saw a very tempting offer on Toptable / Opentable / whatever its now called (4 courses & a bellini for £35) I snapped it up – perhaps this was my first mistake. I really wanted to love it, I’ve always admired Angela Hartnett and heard great things, but alas the food just didn’t deliver – certainly not to michelin star level, and perhaps not even to what appeared such a reasonable deal level.

There were good points – the service was excellent - very attentive and friendly (though they did bring me the wrong bill), the Bellini’s (blackcurrant) pretty yummy, and the unexpected breads, oil and ham pre-starter was delicious. My boyfriend’s quail and beetroot starter was also great, but here’s where it ends.

My starter of smoked haddock and broad beans was disappointing. The beans were undercooked thus unpleasant to eat, and the smoked haddock so small in quantity that it didn’t pack the punch it should have. Second courses were a mixed bag – his risotto was deliciously herby and creamy, but the presentation was bizarre, being served in the middle of a huge white plate so it looked completely lost (surely one of those plates you see on masterchef with a dip in the middle would have worked better?) My fettucine was OK – lovely thin pasta but the sauce lacked depth and was over in two mouthfuls. Now I’m all for a tasting menu and these portions would perhaps have filled you up if you had seven of them, but four at this size? Not a chance.

My main of beef looked fantastic on the plate, beautifully pink – but the sauce was not rich and unctuous enough to be memorable, and it all lacked seasoning. BF’s plaice was delicate but so light and unassuming that he was eyeing my beef with longing. We chose to share two desserts, a vanilla pannacotta and a cheeseboard. Here came mistakes two and three – choosing the pannacotta which was honestly awful (no sweetness or vanilla flavour it may as well have been wallpaper paste) and agreeing to the sweet waiter’s offer to choose our cheeses; two of them were so strong they were practically inedible with only the brie-a-like (can’t remember name) being enjoyable.

In the end, we couldn’t decide whether a) because we’d booked a deal we had been served sub-quality food (perhaps they were trying an intern out in the kitchen?) or b) we would have been as disappointed with the full price menu. A couple next to us not on the deal sent a dish back (“its just not good’) so perhaps the latter. I since saw on twitter that Angela had been out of the country during our visit…maybe this explains it, as I’m pretty sure she wouldn’t have been happy for that food to have had her name on it… What a shame.

This Michelin star restaurant is on the more expensive side and I cannot say if it is worth the price it commands. The size of the portion was appropriate but the tasting menu sizes did not seem to be so. One of our items were forgotten but we were quickly compensated for it. I didn't expect that I'll go to a Michelin-star restaurant to enjoy...bread and olives more than anything else they served! My 3-hour 3-course lunch consisted of: baked Italian eggs, broad beans and celeriac starter – shakshouka tastes better, to be honest, roasted ling (a type of fish similar to cod) sourced from Cornwall, as we were told by our extremely chatty waiter, and pineapple carpaccio with basil sorbet (yes, basil) and meringues, the only dairy-free dessert option they could offer. The carpaccio was cut very finely indeed though the taste came with no surprises – or is it just me being spoiled by a month of fresh pineapple-eating in SouthEast Asia? The tiny meringues floating on top seemed totally unnecessary and tasted rather boring; the basil sorbet, on the contrary, was fresh and sharp, however, perdono, I still prefer the conventional basil-pesto-pasta combination rather than this herby sweet anomaly.
Going back in time, the starter was slightly under-salted, whereas the tomatoes and mussels stew in the main must have contained the daily (if not weekly) sodium allowance.
Overall, it was the little side things that came with the biggest satisfaction, and balanced out the flaws in the main courses. I don't eat meat, so can't comment on the quality of Parma ham they brought out at the beginning, however the olives were simply the best olives I ever tried. At that point I could hardly suspect that, coupled with the bread and olive oil, they would become a highlight of my meal! Indeed, I would be thrilled to find out where they get that heavenly sourdough from. The mussels in the main dish tasted incredibly fresh and intense – probably even more so than the fish itself. Finally, It was the amuse-bouche of (what I am guessing was) banana sorbet that arrived before the main dessert that I found a considerably more palatable substance than the carpaccio that followed. They final accord was a bowl of tiny biscotti in the end which I am sure would've made a nice addition to espresso, had we ordered some.
To conclude, it felt as if my expectations were set too high, though I should probably give Angela Hartnett a second chance by going back for dinner.

Apologies, no photos this time – Murano is not the most pretentious place in Mayfair, but getting out an Iphone, not to mention a big DSLR, would've probably made me feel slightly awkward!

A first dish of roasted scallops, curried parsnip purée, apple chutney and macadamia nuts was a good combination, with savoury and sweet flavours as well as texture from the nuts. The scallops were very well cooked and flavoursome. Pheasant tortellini with truffle and a jus was very good, featuring very well made pasta with a rich flavoursome filling. The sauce was also top drawer and there was a good amount of it, this was a very good winter pasta dish.

Definitely a wow venue, the waiters make you feel very special from the moment you arrive. Quite a formal atmosphere, smart and chic. The Art Deco decor is lovely. Had the tasting menu which is a real foodie experience. Angela was there herself and invited us into the kitchen, very chatty and modest. Wine list is top class. Quite pricey but worth it, a memorable experience

Murano was the very first Michelin restaurant I visited in London back in 2012 and I was so impressed with the high standard in terms of both the food and services.

There are few things more satisfying than to have a long, leisurely meal in a lovely dining room and be served beautiful, delicious food. One place that continues to deliver this winning formula is Angela Hartnett’s Murano. And while she manages to orchestrate all the elements of great fine dining Fine dining restaurants are full service restaurants with specific dedicated meal courses. Décor of such restaurants feature higher-quality materials, with an eye towards the "atmosphere" desired by the restaurateur, than restaurants featuring lower-quality materials. The wait staff is usually highly trained and often wears more formal attire. Fine-dining restaurants are almost always small businesses and are generally either single-location operations or have just a few locations. Food portions are visually appealing. Fine dining restaurants have certain rules of dining which visitors are generally expected to follow often including a dress code. at her Mayfair restaurant, it’s still the hig

My mother had booked the chef's table to celebrate my grandmother's 90th. She arrived 10 minutes early but the table wasn't ready and they were made to wait in the bar with no seating for my grandmother (as it was already taken). No coats were taken either and they were just left to stand there.

However from then on service was excellent from start to finish as we were assigned the most lovely lady who looked after us all evening.

The food though was very disappointing with portion sizes being very small so much so that my 12 year old son was hungry by the end. The food itself was poor too and not how I remembered it from my previous visit. I also found a piece of plastic in my lemon mousse. It just didn't have the wow factor that it should have. Noticeably they are using a much cheaper olive oil for the bread as the one we had previously you could drink like wine. My fish was tasteless and dry. The dessert was especially disappointing being described as a strawberry consome with meringue which was a few cut up strawberries with a horrid syrup and two minuscule meringues.

My mother did lodge a complaint after but she was treated quite aggressively for complaining and a lot of excuses were given. You would expect the customer service at a Michelin starred restaurant to be excellent but just like the food it fell very short. However they did offer her £200 (based on a table for 11 people) which she accepted. Had they handled the complaint better I would not have written this review.

And the food was, we all agreed the following morning, very special indeed. Just don’t ask me for specifics. Like greedy bankers doubling down on derivatives, we abandoned fiscal caution just seconds after sitting down, plumping for 5 courses. Also, like greedy bankers, we bookended our evening with a phalanx of dirty martinis and fine port, with countless bottles of ballsy Italian red in between.
The peach was perfect, incredibly ripe and fresh. The peach paired well with the sweet saltiness of the prosciutto and the creaminess of the burrata. The prosciutto was of the highest grade and was so thinly sliced that it gently melted away in your mouth.

We have never been to a restaurant that has such friendly staff. Every single member of the team had the perfect balance between relaxed chattiness and Michelin star service. It was by far the nicest selection of FOH we have ever encountered.

My last visit was most certainly a 10/10. I think going for the lunch menu is a slightly different experience and some of the dishes don’t have quite the same wow factor but it was still a solid 9/10. A really fabulous place to go for a romantic dinner or a great catch up.

Would we come back to Murano? With such highs as the Zuppa Di Pesce and such lows as the Gelato, it really is a tough question to answer.

Murano opened its doors in 2008 and at that time it was part of the Gordon Ramsay stable of restaurants (with Hartnett's interest in Murano at 15%). According to press reports, it was only around a year and half later when Angela Hartnett decided that she wanted full ownership of her own restaurant at which point Ramsay, beleaguered with his own financial problems, suggested she buy him out of Murano, which she readily agreed to do. In October 2010, the deal completed, and now Murano is fully owned and run by Ms Hartnett. And yet for all that, it still feels likes a Gordon Ramsay restaurant. Admittedly, there's little you can do about the décor. Giles Coren suggested in his review in The Times that all of Ramsay's protégé chefs had forced on them 'dining rooms modelled on the same Abu Dhabi hotel hairdressing salon' and indeed, the room did 'enjoy' a sort of gold leaf glow to it as if to imply it is worthy of its Mayfair postcode. Perhaps because of that, the restaurant structurally

Peanut butter crumble with caramelized bananas. A boring, unattractive dessert (one of these occasions where it would help to have a peanut allergy, so as to avoid accidentally ordering it).

It is so old fashioned and not in good way, rather the kind of food you might have found acceptable in the 80′s. Just not a gourmet experience.

As tempted as I was to indulge in the a la carte, or even the tasting options, wallet restricted me to the much more reasonably priced set lunch menu (a snip at £30). Whilst we perused the choices, a wooden board of charcuterie staved off the hunger pangs. The accompany bread basket was filled with a few delights including a superb focaccia (a good standard bearer for any Italian restaurant), and an amuse of arancini balls were also excellent.

Those of you interested in Angela Hartnett's (MBE) progression as a chef, rejoiced at the news that she has finally left Gordon Ramsay to make her own name, though truth be told, the charismatic chef has already built a formidable reputation over the year

Immaculate food! We were blown away by the highly imaginative and brilliantly prepared tasting menu. The service was super efficient and friendly. The only (major) disappointment was the basic Chablis (Jean-Pierre Ellevin 2007 - £45) which tasted no better than a supermarket Petit Chablis and stood in stark contrast to the food. It was also served much too cold. We complained (about the quality) but nothing disappeared from the bill.

Just before I left London, I tried the £25 lunch menu at Angela Hartnett’s Murano, and it ticked all the boxes: great service, lovely linens/china, and flashes of creativity on the understandably-limited menu - all at a fantabulous price

Stevie G. This restaurant experience marks the return of Angela Hartnett to the London scene. The long wait was worth it. Pared down dishes, Italian influenced, but with Angela's distinctive style - it can't be bettered. If you like the raw material in your food to shine through, with complementary sauces, and not those that overwhelm the dish, then get yourself down there before the waiting list gets ridiculous.

The room is formal but minimalist and the service not at all stuffy - make no mistake - this is all Angela - no Ramsey influence is apparent - its a serious dining room for serious foodies - bring it on!
