This is the best coffee in London. Go there and get a flat white, and buy 500g of their house blend beans to take home with you! It's delicious.
Very good place with delicious food and fresh coffee . The ambiance is nice, the staff is friendly and helpful and the service is prompt and punctual as well. Highly recommended.
Wonderful cafe that serves some of the best coffee and drinks.always made and served freshly at reasonable prices, optimal hygienic conditions and with a really friendly and professional staff as well.
One of the first and still few outlets in the whole of London doing flat whites correctly. Perfect flavour, perfect strength and velvety smooth. Praise be đđŒ
If you're like me a coffee addict then this place is a must to have their top quality coffee. Their service and staff are fast and knowledgeable
I used to think that coffee shops were boring. As it is becoming increasingly common as I mature, I was proved wrong. I have learnt that sitting in a coffee shop, you can observe many interesting things. You might see the parade of people hurrying by in the morning for their caffeine fix. Alternatively, perhaps you might glimpse those settling down for a solo coffee break amongst the busyness of the day. Or perhaps if you are especially lucky, you might see, but not understand, the beginnings of a multimillion deal or a lifelong friendship starting over a debate about the merits of a flat white versus a latte.
One of my favourite spots for coffee in London. If the queues were shorter, I would probably rate it higher. I keep going back for the great coffee though! ...
The drip coffee was amazing. You can taste the subtle notes from the beans. The roast was spot on. Just enough to enhance the flavour of the colombian beans.
One of the best coffee I have tried especially the manual brew with the light roasted Ethiopian beans. The ham pastry is recommended to try.
After searching from one coffee shop to another, finally found coffee that I can personally call as "good coffee". Though it didn't taste as 'rich' and thick as I've expected, but it's way better than other coffee shops that I have tried in London, so far.
I have briefly mentioned in another post about Borough Market that Monmouth Coffee is one of my most favourite coffee spots in London. Borough Market has always been where I get my Monmouth-coffee fix until another time I was walking around Seven Dials, I walked past their shop in Monmouth Street. I thought itâs been a while since I visited Monmouth Coffee or Borough Market at that time, I decided to pop in to grab a pastry and coffee.
I observed this place back in 2010 during my first visit to London and fell in love with the coffee and prepared goods here. Completely wonderful coffee and please note there will be a hang on but it is worth it. Strong advise getting cafe au lait since it is better coffee and try their croissants! You can invest in coffee beans as well, there are other destinations as well but I suggest this one.
Monmouth Coffee started roasting coffee at their original Covent Garden site since 1978, and continued to roast here until 2007, when they upgraded to a roastery in Bermondsey. They sell beans (whole and ground), single cone filter coffee and espresso based drinks.
Undoubtedly one of best places for coffee .If you are coffee lover this is place you must visit .They also have one in Borough Market and always people queuing up to get coffee .
If your a coffee snob you got to go and have a look at this little hidden gem.. Great coffee and great staff who know why they are talking about...
Best coffee of Soho district and also one of the best in London. When you arrive there you may probably wait since they have only 3-4 tables inside; but also there is 2go option; so you dont have to wait. Beside, you can also buy fresh grinded coffe beans!
One of the very few places in and around London where you can actually find good cuppa coffee. The barista does justice to the coffee beans. Tried the filter coffee too and was v good. Located in Borough market, this is a place worth going to and trying out the serve. They havr some good freah bagwls, croissants to go along with the coffee. Expensive though, a cuppa will put you down ÂŁ 2.70.
A friend introduced me to Monmouth and I have been paying it forward ever since..
Easily, the best coffee I've had in London, so far.. Beautifully crafted, beans roasted in-house, the aroma and flavour of their coffee is a sensorial delight..You can sit (if you find the place) and watch the barista carefully make each cup of coffee. If you want a quick sugar fix, you should try the melt in your mouth Almond Croissant.. My favourite Monmouth 'go to' is at the Borough market, esp on a rainy day. Its definitely a must try..
Ohhh the aroma of coffee spilling out of this little cafe does not fall down with taste.
Service is a little slow but if you're willing to wait you'll get one of the best coffees you'll find in little London Town!
Without a doubt the best coffee I've ever had. The passion for coffee is evident every time I visit, and the staff seem to be quite clued up. You can also grab a great little pastry or chocolate truffle for the road, which just makes the experience that much sweeter..
Great coffee, well made, the only negative is they don't do soy milk! The customer service experience was great, as have been to cafes before that don't do soy and they treat you like an idiot for asking for it. But the lovely person gave me other recommendations. So was shocked in a good way ! Thanks
The first time I went here, I had three cups of coffee (evening time) in under 2 hours as they are so good forgetting the sleepless that will follow. I think everyone must visit this place if they like their coffees a bit too much.
Best coffee I've tasted in London so far! Very good! And I'm a Melbourne coffee snob...
Being an Aussie I'm picky about my coffee. I used to dread coming to London, but I've got to say I was pleasantly surprised by what I found at Monmouth: quality beans & a barista that could optimise the oils when pulling a doppio.
I now have a safe haven in London for my coffee fix.
Great coffee. Coffee is great (not excellent!) but its super good compared to a lot of places in london. very cosy inside (we got stuck on a '8 person table' which clearly couldn't hold more than 5 people taller than 5"9'.
Cofffffeeee :). Im a very passionate Barista from Australia and whenever I travel I cant go without my good coffee!
This place is awesome!
Their house blend is very nice, mostly a Brazilian blend. Has a almond hint to it.
Also freshly made pastries and cakes!
The Best Coffee in London. The Covent Garden branch for me is the best place to drink a double espresso in London.
I always have one in a ceramic cup, and with weather permitting stand outside and watch the world go by. Heaven.
Bar None...Best Coffee Ever. I have likened finding Monmouth coffee to an adventure because it is a fairly difficult place to find, hidden amongst the boutique shops down a back street near Covent Garden...but I find myself craving it and whenever I am nearby I can't go without my Flat White!
I'm not normally a coffee person but the stuff from here could be addictive !
If you love coffee and your in London forget the chains. This is the real deal. Try it.
Drinking a medium roast Colombian either pure or 'au lait' will go down as the treat of the week. Call me sad but this is a place where your coffee will really stand out above shoulders!
Best cappucino In the world. They use Neals yard dairy milk, finest fresh beans and even the brown sugar tasty. Atmosphere is great, but best shop is their borough Market main shop on the corner of the lock stock street. Get in early and grab a seat at the community table; fresh bread and big jars of homemade jam. Best way to start a Saturday.
Best in London for a coffee roaster, but some caveats exist.... Although coming short compared to the best America offers (i.e. Intelligentsia), the coffee beans roasted at Monmouth are of high quality. Sadly, the same cannot be said about their baristas. Oddly, flat white in Soho which serves Monmouth-roasted beans knows how to extract more flavor out of them. The Monmouth baristas are a hit-or-miss affair, and generally do not seem to be well-trained in pulling good shots, which can be acidic and lack crema. It is also on a rare occasion I get latte art in my cappuccino cup. That said their prices are fair, especially with espresso costing around ÂŁ1. The pastries at Monmouth are delicious. As for my cup of java, I stick to their drip coffee, made with paper-lined porcelain cone filters and fresh-roasted beans. One employee at the Covent Garden location is highly knowledgeable about describing the characteristics of their beans, which is very helpful in making a selection. I make a habit of buying some whole beans on the way out, and find their organic espresso blend wonderful with a pleasant sweet finish, but am disturbed that for a place that purports to take coffee seriously, they do not mark the roasted date on the bag. The back of their bags state that the coffee should be used "within three weeks of purchase," which sounds optimistically long.
I hope this review was not taken as a scathingly-negative one, as Monmouth is still a top-notch place. This cafe is still one of the best in London, and well worth a visit. You will never again go back to the ritual grind of Costa, CaffĂš Nero, and the like!
It annoys me when people say âyou canât get good coffee in Londonâ. I will admit that it is harder to find a good coffee in London compared to Melbourne, where every other cafe seems to sell great coffee but that doesnât mean that good coffee doesnât exist in London â you just need to know where to look. I might do up a guide to good coffee in London someday but for now, let me recommend to you my favourite coffee shop in London, Monmouth Coffee.
Iâm not sure why itâs taken me so long to add the Monmouth Coffee Company to my Coffee Hot Stops. Their first shop opened in Covent Garden in 1978 and was quite revolutionary. This was THE place to come if you were a serious coffee drinker. At the beginning they roasted beans they bought from single farms, estates and cooperatives in the basement of the Monmouth Street shop. However, in 2007 they moved the roasting to new, specially converted premises in Bermondsey, south east London, so now the original shop is just a cafe and place to buy coffee beans. Coffee has become so fashionable in recent years that there are good coffee houses popping up all over the place but there really was nothing quite like Monmouth Coffee for a while and itâs still, without doubt, one of the very best. I was a young book editor working nearby when it opened and it was the height of sophistication to go there for coffee and it is still a Mecca for coffee aficionados; its popularity seems to have never w

This cafe is a purist cafe: no skim milk and no decaf. Thankfully, that is a sign they take their coffee seriously and it definitely pays off for for them. They also do amazing brownies the size of your hand so maybe it's better to be alone for that anyway. It's quite expensive, but there is always a queue out the door....
The coffee shop is always packed with locals and regulars. Most ask for take away rather than sit in (not many tables available to sit). As you can see below, very long queue.
I like the organic expresso mix, which at ÂŁ20/kilo is not at all unreasonable . Ask them to grind it for your machine too, if you like â and have a nice coffee made for you while you wait. And the pastries arenât half bad either!
There was a time when I didn't drink coffee. It is so long ago that I cannot remember those dark, non-caffeine fuelled days. I also cannot remember the moment when this neo addiction started. Maybe it was sometime around 1992, that I am pretty sure, but when or where, who knows. As the years go by, the memory fails you see. Like most people with a dependency I am willing to travel far and wide to get my shot. Thankfully I am very happy that I've not discovered any places outside of London where I feel a need to go for a double espresso. Phew. Well apart from half a dozen places in New York city, one in Alexandria in Egypt, and at least 20 places in Vietnam, and also not forgetting that cafe in Kuching. Ohh and that small but oh so fine place up in the mountains in Filandia in Colombia. But apart from them, everywhere else is in London. So far. I've been thinking for a while now which is my favourite coffee shop, but it is so difficult as they all mean something very personal to me. So
As some of you may know, I really do love my coffee. Always have. Ever since I first started drinking the stuff about fifteen years ago at a drive-through espresso shack in the parking lot of my small townâs big supermarket, I have been hooked. You see, w
I love lattes. I have one every day of the week and have a self enforced break at the weekends. We have a great retro Kenwood coffee machine at home with which Thomas has perfected the foaming of the milk but not yet the coffee art, making patterns in the
Oh the buzz, the buzz! I sampled my first monmouth at the Borough market branch and I was completely taken by the whole atmosphere of the shop. Packed to the brim, the air was rich of roast and aroma but what I loved most was the communal table acting as
I love smooth Latte's and Monmouth have the best I have ever tried in London. Just to my taste.
I usually have a take away or else I'll be seated with strangers and the concept still feels odd to me. *covering my eyes*.
It was a rainy and cold Saturday today, so we were looking forward to a warm coffee. A friend of mine recommended this place, and as I love a good coffee I said: let's go for it!
The place is quite small, so we had to wait a bit to get a place to sit. The concept is to share a table - which I find interesting. We had some cakes and cappuccinos. The cappuccino was really nice. Flavour-wise I think I prefer Flat White in Soho, but this is a great place to go if you can get a seat. If not you can always ask for a take away.
An absolute must go! Bern on favourites list for years now! Their chocolate truffles are heaven!
This is a must for any visitor to London and all Londoners of course are already aware of this charming, cosy coffee shop. From hand sourcing all their beans they expertly roast them in Bermondsey. A must go destination for a pick me up amongst a busy day shopping in the West end. Try the cakes they are form another world!
Ok so I went here one time and it was insane. Deadass this place is batshit insane and crazy. Great coffee -- employees seem qualified and personable.
Great place to catch up with an old friend. Try the pineapple smoothie but ask for it with coconut milk instead of whole milk. And if they're feeling generous they might even sprinkle some chia seeds in. Literally that smoothie literally saved my life so many times
Monmouth Coffee offers the ideal coffee drinking experience, which for me means good coffee, a solid pastry, and also the opportunity to meet people.
While this homely and cozy location is small, it seems to be really popular with the locals so space can fill up quickly. Being that it's also not too far from The British Museum and National Gallery, it's an ideal spot to get your caffeine fix before heading into either. I had a smooth warm latte as well as the best brioche I've ever had - a deceptively soft ball of bread with the right amount of hard sugar sprinkled on top.
I was also seated in a table that was a community table and encouraged talking to strangers. Coincidentally, this was the morning Brexit was supposed to take place so it was very much on the minds of the strangers and soon to be friends I was seated with. We had a good and civil conversation about it with all points of view represented and I found it to be a enlightening experience that I feel wouldn't have happened had I not walked into Monmouth. The best souvenirs and memories you can take with you are such moments.
Best Coffee in London.
Few snacks offered like truffles, croissants or pain aux raisin breads.
Very Limited seating.
May have to share if you are seated in a large booth as the seating is communal.
Most people take their coffee to-go.
You can also buy their whole beans or ground for your own brewing pleasure :-)
The lines can get long but they move fast.
Delicious coffee with friendly staff. The store was much smaller than anticipated, but we managed to grab a shared table in the back. Due to its lack in size, I did feel as I had to rush when making my order.
I am not so accustomed to sharing table, but it was a great experience and we sat with a very pleasant German couple. It was also quite nice to sit as they provide you with water as you sit and enjoy your coffee!
We got two lattes, an almond croissant, and a chocolate croissant. The lattes were great, but the croissants were not the best I've had--a bit on the dry side! Overall, great place, would come back for the coffee!
One of the best coffee shops we've been to because of their exceptional coffee offerings. Some coffee shops, you go to for the ambiance plus taste. While ambiance is important, when we travel, taste ranks way higher when picking coffee shops to visit. Monmouth ranks high in our top list for taste and quality beans.
This location is small and had a line out the door. Friendly and knowledgeable baristas. We got 2 coffees, an Indonesian and Ethiopian, plus a bag of the Indonesian. Wish we had gotten more beans because the coffees were excellent. Descriptions of the beans and sourcing was included in our purchase, which we loved reading about.
Highly recommend and would definitely return!
Love this place. Got some coffee beans for my boo and I would recommend it. Only sad thing is they don't make any coffee there with plant based milk. #bummer.
Exceptional coffee in a warm and cosy environment!
Honestly, not much more than that, but Monmouth Coffee is well-renowned and for a good reason!
No mochas but they will throw a truffle in your flat white et voila! Great service, fast. The financier was delightful, though it was a tiny little thing, it was packed with flavour. The atmosphere is hip. The street it sits upon has plenty of little shops to peruse while you sip on your fancy coffee. The coffee is delicious, they have pour over, and they sell bags of their wonderful beans so you can make your own brew at home.
As a tourist, you know you've done well with choosing a coffee place when our local London private tour guide asked how I knew to go to Monmouth for my morning coffee.
On our first morning in London, we walked through Soho to the border of Covent Gardens on Monmouth Street to get my caffeine fix. The narrow space has a counter for take away and a small seating toward the back. I arrived on a busy Friday morning when the regulars were lining up for their morning coffee. They're definitely known for their flat whites and cappuccinos...a quick tip for Americans, they have whole milk only and if you are looking for a cafe au lait, it will take a bit of effort explaining it because they just don't do it this way in the UK. Remember to order your coffee for take away...if you ask for it "to go" you will surely be looked at a bit strangely.
The counter staff here were super nice. We tried paying with a $10 British pound bill that apparently had been retired and replaced with new currency...so imagine how embarrassing that was when the gentleman asked if he could help us with our payment?!
The croissant and brioche looked delicious. Several patrons took some for take away. I was so pleased with my coffee the first morning that I returned on our last day there...having tried other coffee shops on the days between, it became readily apparent that this is some of the best coffee in London and I now know why our tour guide had reacted the way she did when I told her I was grabbing a coffee for take away just like a local!
Excellent coffee shop offering beans from all over the world. Friendly staff. Freshly made coffee.
Surprisingly, though, opens at 8 am. Would be nice if it opened earlier.
This is a coffee paradise. You can purchase beans for home roasting or ground coffee. You can also try and buy an artisan coffee but you might need to wait a long time for a seat. It's a little cramped so don't try and linger or do any work here. It's all about the coffee experience.
If this place was a film it would be The Godfather as its an instant classic.
Feeling basic? To me, Monmouth is the star of London's hipster coffee scene! The aroma when you enter the store might make you think that their coffee is overly bitter, but that wasn't the case at all. This location has a much shorter wait time than the one in Borough Market.
The pastries are just ok here. BUT the coffee is AMAZING!!! Monmouth is probably the best coffee shop in London! EL & N is super cute and and absolutely IG worthy, but the coffee is weak and shit. If you want to drink coffee/espresso go to Monmouth. If u want to take pictures go to EL&N
Near my hotel, and the queue piqued my interest. Oh, look, pastries, and what interesting coffees and huh I didn't know that data. The line moved quickly, and a flat white with a flaky thing to eat. Tight seating but I snagged one. Wow, what luscious coffee, so deep the flavors and so light the nose. Perfect.
Enjoy!
This minimalist coffee shop is pretty exceptional. Their menu is small, they are purists (sorry no iced mocha's), and what they do serve is pretty exceptional. They source coffee directly from the farms so it has that warm and fuzzy sustainable feel. The pastries were delicious! The staff was friendly, although the process when you dine in is a little odd i.e. who do you order from? When do you pay?
They are located pretty close to Google's UK HQ, that being said this did remind me of some fancy silicon valley coffee shops I have been to before. Just an observation, definitely worth a stop in for your daily fix.
An independent coffee lovers heaven, Monmouth is my go-to for a nice cup of flat white, cappuccino or latte.
I'm always tempted by the pastries and snacks counter as I make my order, and the rich chocolate truffle is an excellent pairing with the nutty roasted coffee.
The only con is the huge crowd since it's adored by locals and tourists. But hey, you can always choose to takeout or sit-down.

Amazing cozy Cafe.
The coffee were fantastic, some of the best coffee we've had on Europe.
The pastries were also very nice.
Each one that we tried was perfect.
I really enjoyed my iced filtered coffee.
The seating inside is nice but it's very busy and noisy inside so wouldn't really recommend.
Smart strategy as a roaster. ROI per square feet of space is probably one of the best I have ever seen in major city! Flat white is superbly crafted, well-balanced and the taste is unforgettable! Probably, one of the best cafe in London - delightful, pleasant and with great coffee experience.
Had the regular flat white. It was great due to the great balance between the coffee aroma and the milk. There are many desserts, but I didnât get the chance to try them. I would do so next time.
We had a cappuccino and latte and they are smooth and scented.
The shop is pretty small with a few seats inside and may be 6 tables outside. You cannot wait inside at all to pick up your coffee as it takes time and is crowded. No decoration with just basic wood desk and chairs. Be prepared to wait because this is so popular. Another branch near Borough market looks better with more 'design' and bigger if you are over that side. This one is just handy near convent garden. If you cannot wait, there are other coffee shops on the same street.
I ordered a flat white and a cappuccino. The coffee was simply outstanding, with a perfect balance of flavors. I also appreciated their eco-conscious approach, encouraging customers to bring their own cups for takeaways, which is a small but commendable step towards sustainability.
coffee is the best!!! only thing lacking is the lack of space as most seats ( very few seating occupancy) are taken up all the time. nevertheless the service is quick and prompt at all times. My coffee place each time I am here in London. đđ
Popularity causes chaos? Or just bad branch set up? Interesting set up in this branch of ordering then your order is shouted across to the baristas in the back. My order was forgotten so I had to repeat it to the barista at the back anyway. On a positive note, itâs refreshing to have a place with no takeaway cups - so pay for a disposable cup or sit down with ceramic.
Coffee - 7.8: As long as the coffee is good the ordering chaos above doesnât matter at all. Unfortunately the attention to detail youâd expect was lost. Milk blend was too full.
The ice latte I got from Monmouth is definitely my favorite out of all the coffee I had consumed in my 5 days in London. I was surprised how packed this place when my friend and I got there on a weekday afternoon, but it all made sense after having the first sip of it. I also really like the fact that they charge you extra for any take-away beverages. This definitely adds extra points since it resonates with my support towards the environment. I also really like that they also sell their coffee beans in the store. Next time when I visit London again, I will be go back and grab some beans home!
The quality is excellent and the service is fantastic. It is no surprise that there's frequently a long queue. The staff are all friendly and smiling. I would highly recommend it. An excellent stop for coffee lovers especially for the espresso folks ;). Just do not get disappointed if there were no available seats. It is still worth it.
I went to refill my decaf coffee beans, and, as usual, the service and coffee were excellent. I wish there more decaf options but i like what i get. I always enjoy visiting for that energizing boost.
enjoyed flat white and piccolo with canele on the terrace table, which has a nice cool shadow in the morning. there were inside seats also available but quite small space. prefer this branch than the one in Borough market, much less people and a tidier atmosphere :)
Love the coffee here. Always come here for a coffee before browsing borough market. You will need to bring your own coffee cup or buy one from the venue. When you purchase coffee beans you can also order a coffee at the same time and skip the long queues.
Decided itâs a must-visit every time in London since trying it the first time thanks to someoneâs recommendation some time ago! Probably the best flat white in Londonđ€ They also offer a wide selection of coffee beans available in any amount, tried some goodies for both filter and espresso based coffee âïž
Easily the best coffee I've had in London. Amazing quality and great artisanal work. Love the variety of beans that are on sale. Cortado and flatwhite are my favorite. Friendly service. Seating is limited and it can get crowded on holidays.
Got a short trip to London and have chance to try this famous little shop. Coffee and pastry are both great (I had double espresso Alemayu Daniel Miju - Ethiopia. It was good dominates the floral peach and silky mouthfeel.). Lovely staff serving around too. Just that maybe the shop a bit too famous, it would be a bit crowded and you can barely have a relaxed moment inside. But it did not stop me giving a 5-star rating for its coffee.
Nice coffee (ordered iced oat latte), very quick&friendly service, have outdoor seatings! Bit crowded so be ready to queue but it wonât be a long wait because they serve people pretty fast. Worth to try if youâre around the area
Great filter and croissants. But Wi-Fi and service doesnât work there so donât come with the idea to work from there
It was such a beautiful experience over here. The vibes and the quality of the coffee and even the dessert is extremely delicious . Iâve tried the flat white and the filtered coffee ( Kenyan beans), Brownie and the amazing Canele. Give them all 100%. And the staff were so helpful which is very rare in London.
One thing i didnât like is the seating area too small and tight which might not be a problem to some people

Been one of my favourite coffee shops for over ten years. However, last time i visited London, i was not very impressed because it was too crowded, no seat. Iced coffee was not cold and the ice melted in less than a minute đ„Č
