What a great little spot to visit for a variety of beers , good quality whiskey & wine and to top it off the food was great. The steak with bone marrow and hand cut chips was superb ! The whole table enjoyed there food and drinks . The pig and butcher are onto a winner as we went on a Monday night and they were booked out until 9pm . Well done

A favourite of a friend of ours, he took a group of 4 of us for Sunday roast. Shared a pork and chicken roast. Huge portion sizes, huge array of sauces to select from. Potatoes basked to perfection - crunchy outside, fluffy inside. Meats were moist. Delicious gravy and Yorkshire pudding. A lovely dining experience.

A modern but relaxed gastropub. They have a great selections of drinks and food. We had a proper sit down meal here and everyone ordered the steak, veal etc (due to the pub's name) and enjoyed it. I instead had the fish and thoroughly enjoyed the lightness of my meal!

Ambience is warm, not too loud, clean and has a homely feel to it. Great place for a big group catch up (I can imagine).

Our service was slightly slow though and we had to flag down the waiter quite a bit to get what we wanted (especially when we were low on drinks).

The Sunday roasts at this place are amazing and there is a great selection of beer and wine! I definitely recommend the pulled pork roast (with all of the trimmings). The staff are all incredibly friendly and attentive. Proud to call The Pig and Butcher our new local.

Its a cool place with great food options and chilled out staff.
Tried the Chicken leg and it was quite filling.

The salmon was uniquely tasty, along with the rabbit.

Walking distance from Angel tube station, would love to visit again

I have known this pub to be called a few names in its time. The most recent being The Islington Tap. Each makeover has maintained consistency in providing a good local friendly pub with hearty food. The Pig & Butcher has taken it a step further though, choosing to steer clear of the go-to options such as burgers, fish & chips etc and instead, offer what is surprisingly inventive and indeed the epitome of what a gastro pub should be. I know most folk believe “gastro” is over-used, maybe even a thing of the past. I believe, when used under the right circumstances, i.e. the bridge a between bog standard pub and fine-dining restaurant, it fits.

It is off the beaten track, when you think of Upper Street being just down the road. Instead, it is surrounded mostly by residential neighbours and you can see this by the lack of office types propping up the bar. On a friday night, there is a chilled crowd of locals tucking into game and such, or sipping on the beers, of which they have at least 30 types. It's a win win situation.

For the food, I had Guinea Fowl breast and leg, with crunchy brussel sprouts. Yum! My friends were not to hungry so opted for a chunky chips, pig in blankets and a scotch egg to share. Now before I talk about my main, lets visit the scotch egg. It is not your normal cold uninspiring fare from Tesco. This is freshly made with egg that has the yoke spilling out like a yellow slow motion waterfall as it should. A big yes. Now the Guinea Fowl, omg the meat was tender. Whilst it is normally known to be drier and leaner than chicken, it had a moistness which was delicious. Partnered with cruncky bitter sprouts, the trip down to the other end of Theberton Street was worth it.

The overall experience was delightful. Pricing was good. Service chilled but attentive. A good mix of table service or being able to go up to the bar if you fancy a look at the selection of bottle and tap beers. The pub has grit, it makes a statement that it can leave your Upper Street alternatives in its dust as it speeds off with food and drink goodness. We will be back!

When you move houses, there are a few things you must put at the top of your to-do list:

1. Find an internet provider and get them to install it ASAP because life without wifi ain't life.

2. Remember to buy toilet paper and salt on your first trip to the grocery store.

3. Find a new local pub.

When we moved to Islington, we didn't do so well with #1 and #2, but we were very much in luck with #3 since shortly after we moved in, we stumbled upon The Pig and Butcher.

We came here for my brother's 30th after desperately trying to find a restaurant that didn't require an extortionate deposit or demanded that we pre-ordered in advanced (Cough Zomato please do a collection called "Big Birthdays"). In keeping with possibly the most gentrified area of London, the atmosphere was pretty classy and the food was spot on. With the best intentions of being mega healthy I picked the pea soup (deliciously cool) followed by the hake. I even managed to resist the bread (served with dripping dip) to begin with. HOWEVER, everyone around me had ordered the steak which came with the possibly THE most insane chips I have laid my tastebuds on. I'm pretty sure I devoured EVERYONE'S scraps.  I'd love to return to try the sticky toffee pudding, as unfortunately on this occasion desert consisted of an M&S caterpillar cake.

Probably the best Sunday Roast I have ever had ( been there already 3x times!) Every time I think about it I can still feel the taste in my mouth. Especially I love the sharing platter, meat is lovely cooked, tender and juicy. Vegetable super fresh, crunchy and glazed. Potatoes are crispy and delicious-best I’ve ever had. Nice selection of wines. Everything was delicious. Even my English friends keep asking when will we be back again! It’s not easy as it gets booked out so make sure you make reservations in advance ( like 2-3 weeks) especially for groups over 4. Ambience is nice, clean and rather modern. Staff is polite but not over the top, just what you need. Highly recommend it.

Some of the food was good, particularly the confit chicken. The crackling on the pork was (potentially-)tooth-shatteringly tough and tasted rancid. It was not good. The bread was extremely underwhelming (not fresh or particularly tasty). £8 for four ungenerous slices did not feel like good value. It also took an age to arrive. When it was chased up, the waitress said that it was a starter so would arrive with the starters. This seemed odd. It then arrived a few minutes later, before the starters... The atmosphere was fine but not brilliant. The room is full of hard surfaces, so the noise carries, particularly if you're unfortunate in having loud neighbours. The service was mixed. One of the young waiters was quite friendly and helpful. The waitress who seemed to be in charge was rather less friendly, although she did warm up a bit as the night went on. All in all, it's pretty competent cooking, but you're paying a hefty premium for the location.

Atmosphere is very nice and cozy. There are a lot of candle lights everywhere. I can recommend a tomato soup as a starter and chicken leg as main dish. Also a chocolate fondant was tasty but to sweet for me. We spent 80£ for two but it’s minimum price I think. It’s a pet friendly place that is very cool!

Came here for Sunday roast (my first Sunday roast ever) and was some of the best food I’ve had! Pork was perfectly tender with crispy skin and the creamy leeks were incredible. Service was quick and I appreciated the homy, rustic interior. Highly recommend making a reservation here for Sunday roast

Loved the Pig and Butcher! I booked the table weeks ago and it was worth the wait. The atmosphere was great, cosy lighting, and exceptional food and great drinks list. We went as a group of 6 and all agreed it was the best Roast we have had in London! All roasts come with sides incl a huge Yorkshire pudding, vegetables, roast potatoes, and cheesy cauliflower (a must). The pork roast was incredible, the best I have ever tasted, the beef roast (served pink) was tender and full of flavour, the lamb (for 2) literally fell off the bone. Truly full of flavour at every turn, and the starters & bread are not to be missed! I would love to return and order the desserts but we simply did not have room on this visit! Highly recommend- I can’t wait to be back!

Lovely Sunday roast offering. Courteous staff & a nice way to end a day. Heads up, you need to request traditional steak knives, since they only give you a somewhat Sharp little knife.

overview: super impressed with all of the meat dishes. lively vibrant spot for groups of friends and family. scotch eggs 🥚: normally not a fan of black pudding, but this works beautifully as a scotch egg. crispy exterior wrapped inside a soft boiled egg. the sauce adds a slightly sweetness. confit chicken 🐔: perfectly salted. extremely succulent & juicy, with a crunchy skin. loving the kale that soaked up all the goodness. pork t-bone 🐷: quite a bit of resistance when i cut into it, BUT the texture is the completely opposite: super tender. interesting how harmonious the caramelised apples works with the overall dish. chips 🍟: fried and seasoned perfectly. cabbage 🥬: loving the sauce, but wished there was more. personally think it can be grilled a bit longer as the middle is quite hard & raw (though i know it can be eaten raw) buttermilk pudding 🍮: refreshing crunchy rhubarb. but the milk flavour is completely covered by the tart sour rhubarb. sticky toffee pudding 🍮: classic and delicious.

Great place for a delicious Sunday Roast. Friendly service and well priced, honest British good. We ate in the dining room upstairs which was a lovely light and airy setting.

Had dinner at the Pig and Butcher last night. We got off to a bad start when I had to ask for the table to be wiped down as it was covered in grit from some work that was happening out side. But they were most apologetic and replaced the napkins and cutlery. We also didn’t pick the best table, there was another table that backed onto ours which was higher, it meant we were subjected to another customer shaking his curly hair over us! Onto the food. The ham hock starter was fantastic but the trout was nice but forgettable. The mains of the lamb and brill were both fantastic as was the burnt cream.
