Excellent gastropub.  The four of us had mains and desserts.  The food takes time to arrive, but it is worth the wait.  Standard of cooking and sourcing is really very high.  Generous portions too.

I had pan fried sea bass with crushed new potatoes, samphire and lemon butter.  Excellent crisp skin on the fish and soft rich new potatoes drenched in lemon butter.  This was the only dish that was not under seasoned for my taste due to the salty kick of samphire.  Flavors very well balanced.

Sebastian Law ordered the braised lamb shank from the Sunday roast menu many a time as he is a local.  I found it very tender but not super flavorful without the accompanying sauce.  I only tried a little bite though, and for discerning eater Sebastian to order this dish repeatedly it must be very good taken as a whole.  I tasted a little of the sole fillet which was floured and fried to a good crisp.  Accompanying peas were fresh,  not frozen, so a great texture.  Claude Crommelin's main of gnocchi with burrata, tomatoes and rocket was wonderful.  Pillow light gnocchi and rich burrata with a clean tasting sauce made with fresh, not tinned, tomatoes.

We also shared sides of broccoli and green beans.  The buttery green beans cooked with shallots were exceptionally good.  I like that the broccoli was actually broccoli rabe.

For dessert, I had sticky toffee pudding with ice cream.  I haven't eaten a lot of sticky toffee puddings, but this is the best one I've ever had.  Light texture, not overly sweet, and with textural interest in the form of tiny crunchy flecks of hard toffee candy in the sauce which contributed to little explosions of sweetness.  Brownie with ice cream was good too, but a little cakey for my taste.  I prefer my brownies to have a gooey texture, but that's a personal thing.  Rich and very chocolatey.  Individual tarte tatins were nice.  Loved the pastry and the flavor but the apples were cooked a little softer than I like.  Salted caramel ice cream was good but not as exciting as the cooked desserts.

The cheapest house red was very pleasant.  I actually preferred it to the pricier bottle of Bordeaux we also ordered.  Boozy dinner for four with two bottles of wine, and a cocktail came to £163 including service.

I have a reoccurring daydream about running my own pub. A place for family, friends and neighbours to have hearty lunches and dinners, to stop by for a pint of hoppy craft beer or a cold glass of oily Alsace Riesling. I relish the summer sun with my loved ones underneath the beautiful flowering trees or am sharing the armchairs in front of the crackling fireplaces on a cold winter evening. Then I catch myself realizing that I have been to this pub of my dreams many times before – it is not much else but the Red Lion & Sun.

One of my most enjoyable discoveries this year (thanks to Lizzie ) would have to be the big, fat, piggy hog roast at the Red Lion & Sun in Highgate. This gorgeous pub in the far northern hemisphere (SO much leafy greenery - my eyes, my eyes...!) has an ou

Book early if you want the sunday roast. Which, may I add, is the best I've had in London.

This a charming little boozer with a warm, inclusive feel. The menu is seasonal and fresh, changing daily so you never quite know what you're going to get.

Situated in leafy Highgate village its the perfect place to unwind after a bracing walk through Highgate wood. Prices are on the high side, but you pay for great food and surroundings. and this is no exception. It's a perfect place to take that special someone, or even to just down on your own with a paper and an ale.

Excellent pub. We managed to get an outside table for 7 of us with a pre booking. The weather was great and the outside seating area is perfect for this. It is covered so even a little rain won’t bother. I started off with a Bloody Mary that was absolutely delicious, nice and spicy, just the way I like it. Moved onto gluten free Peroni’s and Frozen Margaritas there after. For starters we shared the Burrata salad and Oysters. Both were great, especially the tomatoes in the salad. The salad was my favourite, simple but yet so delicious with some of the best tomatoes. Mains was of course the roast, some of us had the beef rib while others had the lamb. I can easily say this was the best Sunday roast I have had to date. Everything about it was delicious. I ordered the beef while my wife ordered the lamb, and I think the lamb shank was better. The lady’s got sticky toffee and Eton mess desert while the boys had Irish Coffee. Overall it was a great experience, great food, good service, and we can’t wait to go back.

Great pub for a relaxed Sunday lunch. Homely, casual vibes indoors with two outdoor spaces at the front and back. We enjoyed the roasts, the Korean wings and the pudding.

What a great find this place is. This was highly recommended by a friend, from thie Street you wouldn't think this place serves the quality of food they serve. The menu is not available until 11 am as they only get the freshest produce that morning from the suppliers. Every dish of food we tasted was so fresh and delicious we couldn't fault a thing. We went on a Sunday and had the roast, which was so well cooked. You had options on how you would like the beef cooked, which is fantastic as some of us enjoy it rare and some more well done. We had a selection of starters that were all well executed. We will be visiting this place more often.

This is one of our all time favorite place for excellent food and drinks. Also for Texans one of the few places with a margarita machine!! You can’t go wrong with any of the food. The Sunday roast portions are big and delicious. Book before coming. Highly recommend this gastro pub!

Lovely gastro pub in a nice neighbourhood. Great food and friendly service. Semi-covered outdoor area is nice too (although there is bound to be smokers, that’s just the risk you will have take in this country). Focaccia was pillowy and fluffy. Korean fried cauliflower was great! Sweet and spicy. Veggie roast was good - the sausage-y looking substance in the middle looked very unappetising but it tasted deceptively good. I was very happy with my choice.

Great pub for a lunch. We started with focaccia which was great (but huge!), and the Korean chicken wings were excellent and covered in sauce. Vegetarian ravioli was good, and the burger was done really well. Would recommend!

Nice gastro pub tucked away from the main area. Really nice the set up they have prepared outside to accommodate more people during the winter months. We sat inside and service was good. I felt perhaps we didn't go for any risk starter or main and that could perhaps impact the impression I got that dishes are a bit simple? Maybe it is out fault. The burger and the fish and chips were well executed, good flavour and all that bit again, it's just a burger and you charge nearly £20? The fries were really nice though. Also the starter soup was top notch. Nice place for an impromptu weekend lunch if you are around. I wouldn't travel from too far just to try this gastro pub, I'm sure there are many more like this in London.
