Nothing beats great conversations with likeminded people over a great meal after a long day. Which is what I exactly did with Aftab, Binny and Maggie at Amaranto Four Seasons last week. Amaranto boasts of a very spacious dining room that extends to a conservatory overlooking Park Lane. The decor has a kitschy sort of opulence I kinda liked. There’s a hint of Asian in red velvet sofas and dark marbled tables, but there are playful Italian touches such as Fornasetti wall plates galore. My favourite feature though, has to be the display of all the finest champagnes you can think of, aka “the wall of bubbles”.

Can there really be a better ways to spend lunch time than enjoying good food in the opulent environs of a luxury hotel with a good friend? Today Lauren and I were meeting at Four Seasons Hotel London at Park Lane to sample the delicious Italian food on the menu at Amaranto, the hotel’s main restaurant.

Located in Four Seasons Hotel London in Park Lane. Service +++. Met up with old school friends. Decor of dark marble and wood interiors with warm fire and potraits of royalty.  We had 5 course degustation menu. For £40 per  person. A savory brulee, followed by goose liver with toasted brioche. Then turkey with bread sauce. A panacotta then black forrest desert and sweets with coffee. Service was good and we enjoyed the quiet surroundings. Regaled each other with old school stories. There were complementary cocktails to start. Good location for a get together and chat with old friends or a business dinner.

Finally, I was in a very indulgent mood when it came to dessert and ordering the Chocolate Soup. Presented a mousse-looking pudding in a bowl featuring brownie chunks, lemon compote, grapefruit segments and chocolate swirls, the waiter then poured hot chocolate sauce over the top, giving a sense of theatre as I watched part of the pudding collapse as it melted. It was very creamy and rich – tasting gorgeous.

Amaranto is a modern Italian restaurant in the Four Seasons London at Park Lane, and coincidentally just opposite the Intercontinental where I had the pleasure of enjoying another afternoon tea a couple of weeks back. The afternoon tea was served in the Amaranto Lounge which had more of an oriental feel to it rather than Italian, with its marbled black surfaces and scarlet red interiors. It was a shame about the weather as I was hoping to be able to enjoy the outdoor garden which would have been lovely on a sunny day - the lounge clearly proved to be a warmer and drier option on yet another wet British summers day.

Great bar. Ask for Jacob -- bartender. House blended Manhattan vermouth and bourbon makes for unique smokey flavor. Similarly creative Negroni that actually makes Campari taste good. Will serve 24 hrs if you are a guest @ Four Seasons.

Desserts exceeded the high standards set by the previous courses, showing the strengths of the pastry section. Apple and cream mille foglie, featured multi layers of softly baked caramelised apple, topped with mascarpone cream on a crunchy almond biscuit base. A paper thin dried apple slice crowned this simple yet delicious dessert

The restaurant also acts as the Breakfast/Lunch place in the hotel, so this place is open all hours of the day and quite frankly I can't wait to check out Brunch here. Anyway, the refurbishment is interesting to say the least. Those £125 million were obviously spent, but I found it a little over the top. Lots of dark red and horse heads around for some reason. It's a little strange. The strangeness carries into the restaurant. They've gone for

My high expectations of Four Seasons London were confirmed as the charming and ever dashing perfumer Roja Dove was sitting at a nearby table. I later found out that guests staying at Four Seasons London are treated to bespoke Roja Dove bath products in their bathrooms – it doesn’t get much more luxurious than that!

I'm sure you all get pretty bored of me saying so, but for me hotel dining is the most satisfying. Unlike stepping into one of Soho's latest ventures, hotel staff generally seem to care that little bit more about the customer. Perhaps It's the higher level of training from the driven and meticulous hospitality staff or simply just because these people enjoy what they do - who knows. Personally i think it has something to do with working in a hotel being able to offer more potential - it can be a job for life. A lot of people living in London see working in a restaurant as a job which only pays for the interim before they start their 'real job'. But working in a restaurant can open lots of doors, and be one of the most satisfying experiences you could ever aspire for. You get to meet interesting people, exuberant and flamboyant characters, but also get to carry that pride knowing you can do something most people can't - creating an experience that is never forgotten.

Amaranto is an Italian restaurant which utilises lots of British ingredients, but splits its menu down the middle balancing out classic regional Italian dishes against British inspired ones. Up until recently(ish) the kitchen was run by Davide Degiovanni who has since gone on to work for Gordon Ramsay's Union Street Cafe in Borough. Who's running the kitchen here now at Amaranto is a mystery to me. Out from the bar arrived my smokey negroni - which was outstanding and completely unexpected. The incredibly well blended negroni was accompanied by a flask of smoky lapsang souchong tea which wafted across and into the glass infusing it. After finishing the strong, bitter and seductive drink you're encourage to strain and pour the remaining tea into the glass and mix with any remaining drops and sip - slowly. A lovely idea. I'll be coming back for many more of these soon.

The decor inside Amaranto comes across slightly oriental in design, which looked nice but isn't really reflective against the food. In the corner of the dining room i spotted a large trolley with an abundance of bread. Then suddenly a huge selection arrived at our table. All lovely, well made and great for dipping into the salt and olive oil accompaniments. I'm a stickler for breads and these weren't bad at all. Although perhaps i over indulged a little early and filled myself up somewhat even before starters arrived.

Stracciatella, which is an egg drop soup had the unusual mix of a gazpacho style tomato soup, olives and basil leaves. In all honestly I'd not eaten stracciatella before and had no idea what to expect but wow, what had i been missing. Incredibly fresh, punchy flavours, smoothly textured and a portion size to match, which left just enough spoonfuls of this gorgeous stracciatella to help satisfy our moreish cravings for it we developed. If you've yet to experience stracciatella then i urge you to seek it out, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

What is it these days with restaurants putting fried duck eggs on their menus. Three years or so ago i only ever saw them in top restaurants, now nearly everyone has it on their menus. And I'm not complaining. Here the dish was a nice attempt, but on the whole needed a little reworking. The egg was well cooked, but its crumb too plain and tasteless. Parmesan fondue on the side had good flavour but the consistency wasn't quite right and a little lumpy. Grilled asparagus on the other hand was lovely. As i said, everything needed a little more execution and care.

Duck breast with crushed potatoes, courgette flowers, fried courgettes, puree and jus arrived next. The duck was nicely cooked, and the highlight of the dish (as it should be). The courgette flower was covered in some hideous batter, but was stuffed with an unbelievably tasty orange cream. The jus was nice and the puree was good, but needed to be smoother. There was definitely some effort and serious thinking behind this dish, but again the execution and care felt as if it was missing in places.

Our best dish of the evening was without a doubt, the pasta course. Parsley scented tonnarelli pasta with chunks of cod, black olive and a caper ragout. The actual pasta needed thirty seconds more in the pan but otherwise this could have been near perfect. The sauce had so much depth and flavour while little chunks of cod sporadically appeared in the mouth and those salty capers and black olives left for a tantalising affair. Just getting that pasta right every time is key - some people can be nothing near as forgiving as i can (believe it or not).

I've never quite been a fan of panna cotta and I'm not entirely sure why. Maybe It's the lack of flavour I've experienced or watery textures - either way I'm just not crazy about it. Here i actually did enjoy it, but wasn't captivated or blown away which still remains a problem for me ever falling in love with this ever popular dessert. Served with roasted peaches, peach juice and a peach sorbet it became quickly apparent that something on this plate was going to be much easier to put away than others. Peach may be perhaps one of my favourite fruits and Amaranto managed to keep that love affair ongoing.

Petit fours were a mixture of sugar jellies, deliciously dark truffles and some mini meringues - which were full of sugar and had no flavour. A minor thing which could easily be rectified. Hotel dining is still my favourite ways to dine and that won't be changing anytime soon. Amaranto may have lost its well known stellar CV holding chef but right now it still has a very capable one instead. Yes the food needs a little more work and care but its heading in the right direction, and so much so i can't think of a single reason not to return when in the area. The cocktails are a reason to go back alone, that smoky negroni can never be forgotten.

We had such a great experience here. We wanted to celebrate my father's birthday and as he worked here in the 8o's we booked a table for breakfast. The service was impeccable, great attention to details, cozy atmosphere and great pastries. Thank you so much for making this day even more special.

Absolutely fantastic experience in this restaurant every time. We always come for our anniversary breakfast having been married here 5 years ago. On this occasion, Renato our waiter was top notch. Dharam front of house made us feel extremely welcome both this year and last! We had no idea but our toddler could eat for free as well which is a massive bonus. Very warm and friendly staff with great food to boot. A bit on the pricier side but worth every penny.

This is my third visit to Amaranto. I have to say that the attention to detail and experience is always a pleasure. Staff is very friendly and welcoming, the food is delicious. The style is traditional Italian and it does that very well. The price is up there, but that is expected with such a nice restaurant. I would definetly advise trying Amaranto.

The bar: Astonishing place from the welcoming to the ending... without any doubt one of the best places in London. We've served by Antonio a very professional person. (as we asked so many questions) he always answered in a very good manners, never to close never to far; the perfect service. Now you're probably ask yourself how much is it? Right? Ok it's expensive let's say t with 50 or 60£ or 70 you get a good experience: you gonna have 1 or 2 drinks each. So if you go with someone this is the price BUT you'd really really impress the other person and you gonna have an unforgettable experience. PERFECT.

We were staying at the four seasons and almost every night we stopped in for one last drink before bed. We sat in the same spot and our server was Peter. He was half of the reason we would stop in. The drinks were all delicious. We will be coming back.
