We visited this place to try their famous pie and mash, and of course, a bowl of jellied eels. Pie and mash was top notch, as expected. Jellied eels were interesting - cold, salty and slimy. Think I’d have to have it a few more times to get used to the texture.
The staff were really friendly. The server lady came to our table and offered us to try the eels after they were just boiled.
Hope to visit again soon!
This is the place to go if you want real London pie and mash. The establishment has been family run since 1914 and is still to this day true to its roots of pie and mash, and the good old jellied eels! The eels aren't for me but the pie was perfect at less than a fiver for a hearty meal. They keep the menu concise with a choice of steak pie or steak and kidney pie (wouldn't recommend to non-meat-eaters necessarily, although online there was mention of a vegan pie, you might have to ask specifically and get funny looks from everyone around you). The pastry was perfect, the liquor (parsley sauce) was delicious, and the mash topped it all off.
The place had a queue out the door on the weekday lunchtime when we visited and every one of them was a local resident or worker (except us), which you can always count on as an accurate indicator of a genuinely local and top-quality business.
Definitely worth the short bus ride down from Trafalgar Square.
Really can't sing its praises enough. Such a rare find in this age of extreme capitalism. Would have loved to try the fruit pie (apple when we visited) but they had already run out for the day.
Visited on a very hot day, with my younger brother.
Lovely 2 pies, and mash, plus a cup of tea..
Friendly ladies serving, highly recommend.
The best pie and mash in London.
Arments is a fourth generation Pie House with over 100 years experience at the tradition of Pie & Mash. Located in South East London, Camberwell this place is about as tradtional as it gets.
The menu is what you expect also serving Sarsparella and pretty much every seat was taken from children with their parents, couples and the older generations all there for that same experience and that memory of a true staple of classic London Grub!
Doesn't get better than this! The original and best no complaints at all
HANDS DOWN the best pie and mash in London! and trust me I have visited most, the only one I haven't done off the top of my head is Maureen's down poplar way, opposite canary wharf etc.
Arments is the top tier pie and mash, the pastry is buttery/creamy and the suet underside is spot on.
the liquor is great, the consistency is what you want its not gloopy in the slightest.
the mash is the more textured side which is exactly what you want when eating pie and mash, pour chilli vinegar on there pepper and salt and you are away 10/10 me and the old man used to order in the lockdowns and I have my memories of him and me going down arments on a friday every couple months where i would book the day off, god rest him now and god bless arments!

Was in the area for work, heard of this place but never been.
Was very good.
Lady was also very helpful with directions to get back to where I needed to be.
Thank you
Fresh pies in a canteen-style shop. Glorious pastry (bit too salty though), bear in mind filling is actually mince, not steak chunks.
Minimum £4 card payment, reasonable considering the pie&mash meal is priced at £4.60
Arments has been our go to family pie and mash shop for 3 generations. Always good service and good food. Although what's going on with the mash portions?! Ordered 2 takeaway double doubles today....theres noway that's a double portion of mash, very very small and noticeable to someone that's been eating there for 40 years. Sort it out arments!
Lovely two and two, followed by cherry pie and custard.
Super-friendly staff made me welcome for my first ever visit.
There is no better place to eat pie n mash. Always spir on at Arments
