Interesting and inventive food. Probably the best Vietnamese food I’ve had.
Really helpful and informative staff, she was quite passionate about what she was selling. What seemed like a large portion to me, she clarified that I would still feel really light after I finished it because Vietnamese food is naturally gluten free. After finishing my huge delicious pulled pork coconut curry, I definitely do feel light!

We had dinner here tonight. A lovely restaurant, wonderful decor and ambiance. The service was initially a little slow but got better and always friendly. The food was good just a little overpriced in my opinion. It's quite spicy, but very fresh and according to them organic - I believe it. I would recommend this restaurant for a lovely if slightly expensive evening out.
I found The Little Viet Kitchen when I saw a video on youtube channel "FoodTube" (Vietnamese 'Pho Ga' Chicken Noodle Soup). The recipe that Thuy Pham-Kelly cooked was so amazing that I decided to visit her restaraunt.
I chose to try the vietnamese fried spring rolls and pho bun bo hue and the choice was perfect. Really delicious. The food was very amazing, the waiters was very attentive and the bills was "nice".
Definitely, I will come back.
“You’re sitting on our honeymoon!” she said enthusiastically. As my little butt felt guilty by the second, she explained how she and husband Dave worked blood, sweat, tears – and holidays – to make their dreams come into fruition. From supper club success to a corner restaurant in Chapel Market, she’s remained humble and has not forgotten her roots and modest beginnings.
This is probably the fanciest Vietnamese restaurant I've been to. Although the authentic flavors of the Vietnamese food is still there, just improvised and with a twist. I had to try the LVT iced coffee and it was a treat. I was expecting the typical Vietnamese black coffee with condensed milk but it was different and it was nicer than I expected. It wasn't as sweet as the usual Vietnamese iced coffee and it consisted of coconut shreds and some tiny specks of coffee beans. I loved it! For the entree I ordered the specials which is quail bedded with sticky rice, crispy fried onions, crumbed aubergine and pineapple. This dish was perfect! The fusion of the crispy qual leg and fried onions worked so well with the soft sticky rice, aubergine and pineapple. Also the fresh herbs and the pineapple added freshness to the dish. Lastly for my main I had to order the Pho - the famous Vietnamese beef noodle soup. Although it is a little more pricey than other Pho I've bought before, they are not stingy with beef and fillings which makes it worth it. The broth was authentic and it was just right. I walked away feeling happy and satisfied.
Joshua Loh and I visited after we saw her featured in Jamie's FoodTube. If you're searching for a "beefy" broth for pho, you found the right place. One of the best soup pho I've tried in London. With some varieties each with its signature flavour, some more herbal, some clearer base. This one is rich in flavour from bone marrow. Gave it 4 because I wouldn't say it's perfect. Expensive for their small portion. Again, great flavour, would definitely be back.
The Little Viet Kitchen serves traditional Vietnamese noodle, pancake and soup dishes; hidden away in Islington. This Vietnamese restaurant is a real gem and soared in popularity over social media so I had to check it out. On a cold Wednesday evening, I met up with Aftab from Fresh and Fearless to try The LVK’s menu and we were sure excited to document our visit. Unbeknown to us; the owner of The LVK restaurant was serving and we had the pleasure to meet her in person and to experience the food first hand through Thuy. She told us a cute story how the trinkets, chandeliers and ornaments around the restaurant were recycled from her Wedding and that the beautiful wallpaper was all done up by her and her husband. With little money to open up a restaurant; you just gotta DIY and she has done an amazing job because it feels very warm and welcoming.
Drinks: We tried every Vietnamese coffee they could offer and my favourite by far was off-the-menu Vietnamese Coffee/Espresso Martini. I have noticed that this is now on the menu which I am sooo glad to see :) it was a life changing martini for any espressotini lovers.
Starters: There were so many deliciously sounding starters to choose from so Aftab and I decided to order a few and share between us. They had some special of the day options and went for the Prawn scotch eggs with a twist. Served on a bed of salad; this was the best scotch egg I have ever had. Warm and crispy, the yolk was perfectly runny…I wish I had another! It’s not on the current menu but be sure to check the their specials. Aftab ordered the beef wrapped in peailla leaf; the minced beef is organic, lightly fried served on a bed of Vietnamese salad. It was really tasty; but my scotch eggs were so amazing it took the limelight for starters.
First Main: Thuy recommended the Banh Xeo (cripsy egg pancake) to share as she warned the pancake was almost the size of our table. We chose the lemongrass chicken filling served with fresh herbs, lettuce, carrots, cucumber and fish sauce. Despite the size; it was rather light so more room in my tummy for a second main. A couple sat next to us and stared at our very large pancake; we knew they were intrigued so as fans of LVK, we told them what that was on the menu and suggested what we had already to try. They certainly took our word for it :)
Second Main: Beef pho noodle broth…an 8 hour slow cooked broth with noodles, onions, 6 different cuts of beef and a nice chunk of bone (sucking out of it for flavour was optional). You can’t go in to a Vietnamese restaurant and not order a pho and it’s true, I really enjoyed my pho but the bowl was so huge; I actually couldn’t finish it. It was so filling, I was rather sad that I couldn’t order any dessert! Sad times; but that meant I was going to come back for more and eventually try their dessert. Thuy was an amazing hostess; incredibly passionate to the food, the ideas, the restaurant and most importantly; her customers love for her food. I cannot wait to come back. Do check out her menu and her supperclub arrangements at The Little Viet Kitchen.
The LVK is located at 2 Chapel Market, Angel, London, N1 9EZ. Reserve your booking in advanced.
Every so often, you find these special restaurants that are known as “hidden gems”. They are typically snuck away down a side street or located in an inconspicuous place and doesn’t quite fit in with its surroundings. We recently discovered another one of these “hidden gems”, and its called the The Little Viet Kitchen.
Overall, we actually loved this place. The service was great, with friendly staff willing to go above and beyond to make sure you have a pleasant meal. Dainty decor that puts you at ease, with a varied selection of some of the best & authentic Vietnamese cuisine – Pho Show
What can I say!? It might be the best Vietnamese restaurant in town. All the dishes we tried have the same aromatic, authentic just like my mom's cooking. Even my girlfriend who is from Hue had to give the highest of compliment to Twee's Bun Bo Hue!!
As a food blogger, I feel that I should put myself on the front line, at times, and try new offerings whenever available. So I got myself a table at this dainty little restaurant in Chapel Market, terrariums and all, for its soft launch last week. This is head chef Thuy’s first venture into a fully fledged restaurant after a successful blog and supper club (which in hindsight I have actually visited before for some tasty recipes!).
I used to think I was a pretty good cook; not the kind that’s good enough to work in a restaurant but the kind that can throw together a meal without breaking into a sweat. I have a good grasp of basic kitchen skills, a decent repertoire of dishes I can whip up almost to perfection, and there haven’t been any major complaints… well not to my face anyway. So if you were me, you’d put yourself into the ‘can cook’ category wouldn’t you?
After salivating over hundreds of photos on Instagram, I saw the news that The Little Viet Kitchen was moving beyond covetable Instagram account and supper club to full scale, bricks and mortar restaurant! I was excited- finally a chance to see if the food really tastes as good as it looks or if it's all just a brightness-increased, saturation-tweaked rouse. All looked promising when we arrived at the bright, shabby chic oasis on one end of the far from chic Chapel Market; the service was welcoming, as was the snappy list of dishes and drinks.
When the starters hit the table, my first thought was 'yep, they sure look the part', my second was 'which should I post on Instagram'. The rustic ceramics, generous sprinkle of herbs, odd numbers and symmetry were all worthy of #foodstagram status and I'm happy to report they also passed the taste test. The lemongrass skewered prawn cakes were encased in the crunchiest of crumbs, our pork and prawn summer rolls were refreshing but nothing extraordinary.
Much better were the fried spring rolls; ideally cut into bite sized pieces and not at all greasy, the pork filling packed bags of flavour. Or go for my favourite of the lot, the Vietnamese rice rolls, where under all those herbs, shredded egg, and what I think are strips of fish cake, sit thin, silky rice rolls filled with... you guessed it, pork, but this is pork overload in a good way.
Our mains are less pretty and precise, more comforting and hearty, which I like a lot. While they still look good, these dishes are all about good honest cooking. The pork belly and prawn crispy pancake has a decent amount of filling and is served with an overly generous amount of salad, while the chef's special dry noodle bowl combines some of the starters we devoured earlier on top on noodles and salad.
A certain someone and I get the noodle soup options; him pipping me to order the bun bo hue so I happily settled for the beef pho. Having a taste of each other's, we both agree they are excellent, perhaps one of the best phos we've tried. That's a big statement but the broths are so rich with different layers of flavour- both are meaty, smokey, have hints of sharpness and saltiness, and good level of spice in the bun bo hue... move aside chicken soup for the soul, gimme a pho any day.
After all this food and several cocktails (highly recommend the lychee martini), mocktails and beers we should have called it a night but no... these greedy guts wanted dessert and this time I wasn't even the main instigator! Sadly for me the banana, coconut and pistachio ice cream cake was sold out so we doubled up on the banana fritters which received mixed reviews around the table. What threw us a little was the batter, while adequately light and crisp, we just thought it seemed a little too savoury... perhaps it's cooked in the same oil as the other fried goodies on the menu?!
The frivolous fritters aside, our dinner at The Little Viet Kitchen was quite simply, fantastic. It doesn't come with any gimmicks, is charmingly unpretentious and focuses on the flavour and quality of the food. With new restaurants opening every week, many backed by celebrity chefs and large restaurant groups with bottomless budgets for professional PR and advertising, it is inspiring to see independent restauranteurs take on the challenge and be successful. Thuy and her team have done a pretty good job so do your bit and support them- your stomach and Instagram page will thank you for it!
I discovered The Little Viet Kitchen at Forty Hall Farmer's Market in Enfield, and was very impressed. Their vegan option there is divine - a coconut and lemongrass curry with tofu and jackfruit. Would love to go to the actual restaurant one day.
Absolutely lovely little shabby chic Vietnamese restaurant. The quality of the food is so evident, there's so much love put into each meal. Service was also great! I requested halal chicken prior to coming and the lovely owner accommodated my wishes. I felt so welcome here
Amazing food. I was impressed by the short rib pho. The price is high, but it was worth it.... and the desserts were also divine. I was pleased my friend recommended here and would definitely return.
Amazing little restaurant in Angel, super cozy interior, delicious food, friendly staff, reasonable prices. What more could you want. The chef started out with a supper club at home and opened this place a few years ago. This year it was voted best Asian restaurant in England! And for good reasons. The dishes are absolutely delicious. Try the great street food snacks such as pork spring role or soy sauce aubergine and mushrooms. The lemongrass and coconut curry is heavenly but not for the faint-hearted. It's all rounded off by a great bar with plenty of infused gins and great cocktails. Try it, you won't regret it.
Please give me a thumbs up if you found this review helpful.
Authentic. Tasty. Great Atmosphere. Both Pho and curry were so nice and fresh. Meat within the dishes was tender, well cooked. Plus, I could actually taste and feel how the chef devoted himself to cook the broth and source. Price is quite high compared to other palces but worthy enough. Had a great Sunday lunch and will definitely visit again. Don't miss the Vietnamese drip coffee :D
What a magnificent little spot with the most attentive and personal staff. We didn’t have a bad dish, but the highlights were the coconut beef curry, broccoli & pork spring rolls. For dessert, the cheesecakes are divine 😁 Also if you fancy a tipple, the top shelf tequila is worth a shot
After been to so many Vietnamese restaurants, I have to say this one it's different and unique. Very cute decoration and good main course portion size. Just need to be aware that the price is higher than normal Vietnamese restaurant you been to. After all, I would love to return, non-alcoholic lychee cocktails is yum!
Very nice place away from Angel station and hustle of Islington. Beautiful flavours and fresh food - at Islington prices! The coconut and lemongrass curry was great though a little on the "too much chilli for me" side - and I can tolerate hot Indian chilli food. The pho was fantastic as was the pork dumplings starter. Cheesecake for dessert is a must - very light and not too heavy.
We went out of our way to eat here because we heard good things. The green papaya salad with crab was very good. Excellent texture and the sauce was almost perfect, although, they could have gone a little lighter on the hot peppers (we ended up just picking some off). The traditional phó was good but not great. The broth was excellent, but the noodles were a little fragile and maybe overcooked. Toppings were pretty standard. I also had the Vietnamese coffee which was done right but could have had just a little less condensed milk.
The atmosphere was very well done. The whole restaurant looks like it was planned carefully to use the space effectively. Very cozy and inviting. The only thing that was a little irritating was the low light. Overall, 4 star experience.
A charming little restaurant that serves up delicious, probably the best, Vietnamese food in the Angel area. If you’ve never been, you’re missing out. A real treat.
The restaurant staff are incredibly warm and friendly and do a great job entertaining & looking after the various diners. We met the owner who told us all about the restaurant, how long they’d been around and kindly shared his go-to order - beef short rib in chicken stock....divine. I can’t quite remember the name but picture attached - picture worth a thousand words...
Make sure to sample a cocktail when you go as these are particularly good and always taste fresh.
The Vietnamese sausage is like a sweet, less smoky take on chorizo and well worth a try if you’re of the meat-eating variety. The phos are hearty and full of flavour but the owner’s favourite - not quite a pho but a lesser known alternative here in the UK - is now my go to and highly recommended!
As the restaurant is so popular and a little on the small size, booking is advised to avoid disappointment. There are plenty of pubs and bars within walking distance, should you need somewhere to wet the whistle beforehand.
Enjoy!
Amazing Vietnamese food. The ingredients used taste fresh and all the dishes were full of flavour. This was the second time I've been and it did not disappoint.
The beef brisket pho and fillet of seabass in lemongrass and coconut curry were amazing, I would order the seabass again. For dessert I had Chinese pear soaked in aniseed and other flavours, it was off the menu so i don't recall exactly what it was.
Great comfort food far away from home! Authentic Viet cuisine with a twist and tasty finger-licking dishes. Loved the tiger prawns and rich honest beef broth for Pho. The curry is a pleasant surprise also with mild hotness. A nod to showcasing of elevation of Viet food to new level. Must try.
Best Asian food I've had, the balance of flavours was a joy to eat. Great vibe in the restaurant too and staff were attentive but relaxed...
This meal is by far the best of 2019 so far and is now one of my go too restaurants.... Well worth the visit people👍👍👍
Good cocktails. Loved the fried spring rolls, braised beef, and chicken with shallots ( i might have gotten this name wrong)
An absolute delight. For someone who doesn’t like coconut dishes, I’ve been craving their lemongrass and coconut curry since I had it. The food, the decor, everything is absolutely perfect and the staff is so sweet, kind and thoughtful!
Cute and stylish restaurant. I didn't enjoy my tofu bowl as much as my friend loved the one with duck, but we both agreed that the mochis for dessert were amazing.
Very enjoyable Vietnamese restaurant. Try reserve in advance, otherwise show up early before peak eating times.
Food is very delicious! The place is small, reservations is recommended.
