I work in South London, so Balham is basically a stone’s throw away from me and the perfect place to go food-hunting once the working day’s done. There are plenty of restaurants in the area, serving up all kinds of food, from Thai to pub grub, and delicious, cheeeeesy pizza. *insert pizza emoji here*

The place to be in Balham. Went to this restaurant on valentines night it was wonderful, the food was great as was the service. Visited again with my kids on Saturday afternoon and found that it was so kid friendly with a giant chalk board to keep the children happy. Very reasonably priced as well

Best Pizza in London. The Honest Italian arose from the ashes of Double Espresso which closed when the partners in the restaurant went their seperate ways. The pizza genius of the two moved on and re-branded as The Honest Italian, a restaurant dedicated to wood oven pizza. For the diehard Double Espresso clientele the previously large range of good food will be missed. Gone are the well portioned and tasty pasta dishes and the staple burgers and snacks. There is also a more limited opening schedule. Closed on Monday, you will find regular evening hours the rest of the week with extended hours at the weekend. This could be a mistake. My last visit was on a Monday. It was closed. I was forced to take refuge in another Italian restaurant down the road. It was packed, and having previously served dry over salted pizza's, had upped it's game in the light of competition, charging on average £3.50 less for a quality product. They also had the choice of other traditional Italian dishes.

Steve the owner of The Honest Italian is passionate about his Pizza, and if you prefer your pizza light, thin and crisp, cooked to perfection, this is your place. The night I was in, there was one complaint from a group of inebriated 'theatrical' men who felt short changed at paying an extra pound for sharing a dessert. Steve was mortified at this explaining that the guests wanted to share an ice cream and were charged for the extra scoops required. He then proceeded to offer free drinks in compensation for the display.

In short, The Honest Italian is the best Pizza in Balham if not London, but if like me you were a regular to Double Espresso, you may find yourself missing the range of other great dishes and the seven day a week opening schedule.

Lovely :). I went here the other night with my boyfriend and sat in a cute little 'love seat' hidden round the side of the bar! We had a pizza and a salad and thoroughly enjoyed both. We'll be back!

Finally. Visited with a few friends a couple of weeks back after seeing this place everyday on my walk to work wondering when it would open. I wouldnt normally review a bar/restaurant but seeing the urban spoon rating i was shocked and appalled.

The staff were friendly, the atmosphere was great and........................finally the pizza was perfect and cooked right infront of us.

Keep up the good work!

We had a perfect dinner sitting outside the restaurant enjoying a couple of chilled beers and some seriously tasty pizza. And guess what? The toppings were REALLY generous for once in London! I only took a pic of the garlic bread because as soon as I saw my pizza I had to just eat it, I was so hungry. The staff were friendly and the vibe was really relaxed and happy. Thanks guys!

Finally happy I've found a decent pizza. Tried a lot in local area none really hit the spot till now. Had the Diavola. Could have been a bit hotter (temperature) as im only up the road but a minor issue and didn't detract from the tasty and light pizza. Doesn't come sliced fyi.

Delicious thin-based pizza last Sunday night - so fresh straight from the wood fired oven to our table - about 5 paces away! Very friendly staff and great service.

Cosy little restaurant with great tasting pizzas that have quite a light and thin base compared to other pizza I've had.

The pizza here is great. I've ordered from here 4 or 5 times now and it's consistently great. I do wish their desserts weren't so expensive though. I've tried the banoffee slice once and loved it, but it's not worth half the cost of a pizza.

I went here for an evening meal with a friend and really glad that I did, the pizza base was the right thickness, it was nice and crispy on the edges and the dough was not soggy towards the middle. I ordered the vegetarian pizza and you can see clearly that the ingredients was fresh and was freshly prepared. The customer service was good and the waiter was attentive. I sat outside as it was sunny but you can see that inside the restuarant it was intimate and welcoming, you see can the chef making the pizza and cooking it in the wood fire oven giving the reastuarnt a feel of home. I would recommend the Honest Italian to my friends.
