A nice lunch in Hampstead, just an 8 mins walk away from Hampstead Heath. The location is picturesque with the old brick buildings around. Great feature that it has a terrace for a nice hot summers day. Recommend it for Sunday lunch.
After a nice weekend walk around Hampstead, London Curry Blog and I really fancied a good game of scrabble and a few nibbles. The Wells has a good pub vibe and was fairly busy on a Saturday afternoon... clearly all the cool folks of North London are hanging out playing board games too. Our snacks of olives and almonds were decent and the food other people nearby ordered looked pretty good, but being in Hampstead you're looking at an expensive afternoon if you settle here for a few hours.
Michael was on top form and won at scrabble this time, so I'll probably be back at the Wells for a rematch some time!
Went for a lovely stroll with Sarah M around Hampstead and were in search of a pub with Scrabble to amuse ourselves in. The Wells duly obliged and we also sampled the Greek olives and salted almonds on our visit. The rest of the food looked good and the all round quaint setting made it a lovely Saturday lunchtime in the city.

Top notch food and atmosphere in a place where it's all too easy to spin out a meal all evening if you have a table. Friendly service upstairs and down and ideal for special occasions.
Excellent. Great menu, real food, lovely professional staff and fab location next to the Heath. Your mutt can come too. On Sunday we had delicious steak and chips, and roast beef. In my top 3 London gastropubs

There are two pubs next to Hampstead Heath which are the perfect places to go for drinks and dinner after a long afternoon walk: The Old White Bear and The Wells. The Wells is slightly the lesser of the two, but that speaks more about the excellence of these two places than any deficiency in The Wells. The atmosphere is wonderful (most weekday evenings its comparatively quiet too) and the food is out of this world. The range of ales and lagers isn't the best, but is adequate, and can't detract from the great dishes on offer. On Mondays they also offer BYOB with dinner - a great option to save some money and enjoy the great food.
Cute pub near Hampstead Heath. Nice, covered outdoor seating. We had the spicy Margaritas which were lovely. Mains were all tasty. We tried two different steaks, a burger, a seared tuna dish and a roasted Aubergine dish.
Booked a table for 5 for Sunday lunch, and it was overall a very good meal.
I opted for Roast Beef, which was probably the main disappointment, it was a bit soggy and chewy, despite having an underwhelming amount of gravy (extra gravy is available at cost, which is a bit frustrating)...
But everyone else raved about their meal, and when you order extra sides of fries and chips, you actually get a very generous amount - we expected to get maybe 6 chunky chips, as is the fashion in many places these days.
The rest of the party enjoyed the seabass, duck, aubergine, and roast chicken - all of which went down very well. Shame about my option, but service was very good for a busy Sunday. We were in a small room upstairs.
The beef alone would be 2/5, but everything else was a solid 5/5, so that wins out on balance.
When I was lucky enough to call myself a Londoner, this was one of my favorite spots, and it was a pleasure to visit it again recently. It's lovely for a Sunday roast or drinks and Scrabble with friends.
Really nice pub with friendly service, good food, nice terrace, beautiful dining room not far from Hampstead Heath. Lovely fresh/crispy bread with cold/salty butter (as it should be). Good selection of drinks. All very lovely.
A really great vibe, we live down the road and this place is always hustling and bustling in the best way. The food is amazing and the staff are friendly and have a generous nature. Will be back for a Sunday lunch!
Awesome little pub, perfect for a cold pint after a lovely walk around the heath with friends. Lots of yummy beer taps and the food looked outstanding.
Tasty burgers, both meat and veggie. Really good chocolate fondant with rum and raisin ice cream. Doggies welcome. Knowledgable friendly staff. Needed to book for Saturday lunch as packed.
During our stay in London enjoyed lunch at Wells Tavern and liked it so much that we came back for dinner on our last night. Both times were impressed with food in regards to variety, presentation, preparation and taste. Typically Pub fare tends to be lots of gravy, sausages, chips or mash, battered fish etc. which while once in a while is ok, can feel heavy especially during the summer months. Wells Tavern is an exception to this with a more up to date, lighter selection of menu items. From their excellent soups to the main courses, right to desert whoever does the cooking there knows what what their doing. Overall a nice down to earth tavern feel with a an elevated, up to date menu catering to a more health conscious clientele.

We got lucky enough to get the last free table they had for the evening. With that said, make a reservation! They fill up fast. Good service, and the food was great! Great atmosphere. Looked like they get a lot of repeat/ locals who come in. We ordered an onglet steak and the bangers and mash. Would definitely come back again.
The place it’s cosy and well decorated. It has many inside seats but it’s better to reserve a table especially weekends because it gets really busy! There are few tables outside too. The staff is lovely, attentive and friendly. We loved all the burgers we tried, the food was well cooked and made with care. It’s a little gem between the beautiful Hampstead Heath park and Hampstead village, a must try if you are walking around on a lazy Sunday 😉
