Staying in Holloway with my daughter who recently moved from Sydney Australia to London and found this little gem. The food is amazing and so cheap and the staff are really great as well as the wine. If you ever end up this end of town do yourself a favor and come to Chicks on fire it's simply fabulous.
Fantastic, delicious food and friendly service. Great value too! The chicken is incredible - melt in your mouth. Definitely one of my favourite go-to restaurants in London.
All in all a fantastic night! The food was very reasonably priced and the quality was of a high standard. Great range on the menu. Had the family feast with fajita and jerk chicken (quite a spice kick!). The dips were beautiful. Could have a few more side options. The staff were friendly and incredibly receptive to our needs. Will certainly be back again!
Although the fun with Chicks On Fire starts with the name, it follows on all the way to the place, the menu, the proprietor, chef and eventually the food. It's all so happy and feel good, you begin to wonder if the place is on drugs. What we do have here is the simple concept of grilled chicken modified with various sauces and marinades (think gourmet Nando's), and after finishing my meal it was clear it was a winning formula.
The starters were interesting enough (I've never had a smear of humous before) but the main event was the chicken - I actually had a burger (which, was more of a very generous sandwich) and a quarter piece and all were very tasty and very spicy - there was no need for any additional sauces to top up the taste here.
So not much to complain about really - perhaps the bench seating was a little uncomfortable? I can't give an accurate indication of the price but I think it was all under a tenner per head which is great value in anyone's book. Recommended.
The food at this restaurant, Chicks on Fire (MOST unfortunate name) is outstanding. And most unusual. Delicious dips, delicious breads. I had chicken with Thai green curry marinade which was magnificent - Thai curry at its best. My companion had her's without a marinade' as she doesn't like spicy food - the Thai curry was only very slightly spicy. The food for my companion and me arrived on a large black slate - a real work of art! We had 1/4 chicken each (there are numerous other dishes aside from chicken) two kinds of spring rolls, the spinach and feta particularly good and also best chips ever! There was also a beautiful (I'm running out of superlatives!) salad to go with the chicken as well as garlic mayonnaise.and a dab of tomato ketchup.
The dessert was also beautifully presented - two different kinds - one a chocolate cake, the other I was not quire sure what it was - also a kind of cake. But this was very disappointing after the main course.
The restaurant itself is most tastefully decorated and would stand up to the decor of some very expensive restaurants I have been to in the city!
The service was helpful and friendly - attentive, without being 'in your face'.
We also had two cokes and the bill came to a ridiculously reasonable £20 for the two of us!!. This restaurant is a goldmine in the midst of a sea of kebab shops, but it would stand out wherever it was located!!
What a lovely restaurant and pleasant staff! i found this restaurant through zomato and hadn't used it before. The restaurant is clean, well decorated and the chef and waiter are extremely helpful and friendly. They went above and beyond my expectations and would definitely recommend it rather than eating nandos! For a group of 7 adults and 4 children the bill including alcohol was 140 which split between us was 40 each! really good value for the service, ambience and atmosphere!
Chicks on fire, is located well off the beaten track. It's not the kind of place you would necessarily find without previously knowing about it, and that's a shame. The decor is minimal, so we won't dwell too long on that, but the food is the real surprise. The amounts are copious. For starters, we had a platter of different dips, the colorful mix included hummous, guacamole and an interesting interpretation of Babaghanoush. The portions were great, and were ideal to share with friends or with a large group. They bake their own bread and pitta, and were happy to refill when needed.
Service was fast and both waiters attending us were very helpful in our choices. By the time the chicken came through, I had eaten enough to not be hungry anymore. Having read the menu beforehand, I was rather intrigued by the vacuum cooked chicken. This is not something you would usually find on many London menus, and is usually a delicious way to cook meat! The chicken was good and very well complemented by the sauces, but did not have the specific taste I was expecting. It was delicious none the less!
In a nutshell, a great place to go with friends to share good food in a warm environment!
Many thanks to the Chick on fire owner for hosting a fantastic three course dining experience. The chef, born in Iraq, showed such generosity and kindness, it will be close to impossible for me to find anything negative to say about his restaurant.
To the food. All three dishes struck me as being nicely well prepared and thought through. What really pleased me was to see the real effort made in terms of dish presentation. Finding a way to make servings of chiken legs or even hummus look sexy is no easy feat and i can assure it is done which a touch of genius, art and class at Chicks on fire. The large cray platters on which the food is served is a simple testimony to the thought put into "looking good". Alot of places could learn from this let me assure you. The taste of the food was fairly pleasing. My favorite has to be the chicken which is clearly nicely marinated and cared for before being cooked. You definetly do get the sense that with Chiken being the place's specialty, a genuine effort is put into making it as perfect as it gets. Finally, i must admit the generosity in the portions is mind blowing.
Now to the restaurant's atmosphere. When i was there, along with a fellow ten other Zomato afficionados, the place was obviously full and buzzing. However i do recognise that, had Zomato not been there, the place may have felt a little silent and under populated. The blame for this has to be put on the restaurant's location. Located in a fairly uncommon area for good food as well as on a side street of Holloway road, i do feel for the owner does not get the ammount of visitors he warrants.
To the service. Extremely kind, efficient and smiling. Most importantly of all though is that this kindness is genuine and does seem too artificial. A special mention has to go for the waiter.
Negatives: the benches on which you sit on, not always the most comfortable experience. Then again, the place is quite small so the choice of putting in benches may have been forced upon management rather than desired.
My advice: a high quality Nandos. A true family place which deeply (if not too much...) cares about the food served. Overall a great place for friendly dinners as well as the more romantic meet ups.
Do enjoy!
ps: also, don't forget to drop by the Arsenal stadium litterally 5 minutes away :) !
Chicks on Fire was a great dining experience, it was quite difficult to find but when I did it was worth the search. The staff were extremely welcoming and the chef very entertaining. He served us a variety of dips sweet, sour and spicy, it was really quite unique because you could taste that it was a mix of many different food cultures.
I would recommend Chicks on Fire if you live nearby, this is probably one of the best restaurants within a mile radius.
First of all I would have to say that this restaurant's logo is damn funny! As location of this restaurant is away from both my workplace and residence, I would not have visited this place on my own. But thanks to Zomato, I got an opportunity to explore this place. This restaurant is about 10 min walk from nearest tube station, but you can always take a bus to minimize the walk.
This restaurant was one of the venues for dinner hosted by Zomato for 'proud connoisseurs' who had won ipad mini.We were served a wide variety of dips with bread for the starters which tasted quite good. I liked 'Babag hanoush' and smoked peppers, for their distinct nutty and smoky flavours. Tzatziki was also delicious and had a unique refreshing taste. We were also served chicken wings and chicken spring rolls which I assume were good as it went away quite fast! For the mains, we had roasted chicken with corn on the cob and chips. Chicken was quite soft inside and well roasted but a bit mild to my taste. Dinner concluded with cakes of three different flavours of which I found the pistachio cake quite delicious!
Restaurant staffs were quite hospitable and were asking our feedbacks throughout the dinner. Not to mention, our hosts from Zomato were all very good and friendly. Also, it was a great opportunity to meet other connoisseurs in person and we had a great time.
Chicken wings are a must try! We discovered this place after a friends recommendation and I am sad we did not know about it any earlier!!
The chicken is very well done, not dry at all and very tasty. Alioli, chips and guacamole are very good too. On the picture, the wings platter for 2 with 2 dips and 3 sides, great choice ! And price is very good too :)
Definitely coming back for more wings!
Fantastic chicken with flavoursome sauces. The chicken wings are crispy and juice, the chicken fillets are wonderful and the half a chicken cooked to perfection. The staff are very friendly and polite. We received a couple of pieces of bread with a pepper salsa as a complimentary starter which was a nice start to our meal. Be aware the prices exclude VAT. Will be coming back and would recommend to any one for a pleasant meal.
Accidentally bumped into this place as I live round the corner. What a lovely secret it is! Prices are very good considering it’s London, service was a little slow but worth the wait and time to soak in the place. Waiter is very nice and makes you feel welcome. We shared the chicken wing platter, the dips and sides were exquisite. My new favourite chicken restaurant.
Has become our family hot spot.
we just can't get enough!
Where do I start? The food is amazing you just can't have a favourite but highly recommend the yummy chicken wings and triple cooked chips.
All food is presented wonderfully and looks fab!
As for the staff always friendly and polite always willing to help as for the chef he's just a miracle worker and does his thing! All of this for a such reasonable price. You just can't go wrong.
Highly highly recommend!

This place is a hidden gem which, incredibly, still isn't packed to the rafters. I suspect the name may put potential customers off as it's pretty awful, but the food is truly exceptional. The chicken is the best I've had in London, extremely tender and moist with a delicious set of different sauce options. Side salads are exemplary (I usually find it hard to get excited about salad) and the chips have to be tasted to be believed. Staff are always extremely friendly. You'll need to wait a while for your food, but I suspect this is because they actually cook to order, unlike some chicken places (Nandos cough cough). Incredible value for money, under £15 per person unless you go all out. You'll leave both happy and full.
Fun atmosphere with good music and staff with plenty of personality. The chicken was very good, but the sides stole the show. Chips, salsa, rice, sauces - all delicious. Hope this place is able to move to a venue somewhere with more foot traffic - nice that it's tucked away, but would be great if it took off in a busier location.
The food quality is amazing, the portions are huge, the flavour is incredible, and the prices are so low!
Also, the service is very kind and nice, they always serve you a small nibble while you wait for your order, and some small dessert as a piece fruit .
One of my new favourite restaurants, a hide gem I have to say, and just right in the corner. 10 out of 10!
To the food. All three dishes struck me as being nicely well prepared and thought through. What really pleased me was to see the real effort made in terms of dish presentation. I've been coming here for over a year and never had a disappointing meal. It's quick and easy and delicious and my partner and I can be full on £12!
They can get busy, so I would recommend booking a table if you do want to sit as there are only 20 or so seats.
There are decebt veggie options as well, though can't be sure about vegan.
Great service, very well priced and good food. Would recommend the sharing platters if you are in a group. The service was a little slow but the waiter was extremely accommodating. We weren’t in a rush so the wait didn’t bother us, hence the 5 star review!
