Peter Morrell returns to this charming restaurant after more than six years and finds that it still has the magic culinary touch. PausePlayPlayPrev|Next. Le Café du Marché is a restaurant which is seared into my foodie memory after my first visit more than six years ago. Since then I have recommended it countless time. I went back recently for lunch with a friend and approaching the meal with some trepidation, would it be as good as last time or would my memories be spoilt? I need not have worried, it was its usual outstanding self.
Brilliant food, incredible service (especially from the manager, Sophie. We were a large party but it was a flawless dinner. Sublime salt beef, the most succulent roast lamb, crispy pork belly and an specially incredible flourless chocolate.birthday cake.
Couldn't recommend the restaurant more highly.
Went for a work dinner and it was the perfect mix of great food, nice atmosphere and a brief but good wine list. So good I'll go back on my own money!
It has been a very long time since a restaurant has impressed me so much. If your looking for wholesome and authentic French regional cuisine, then here it is. Hidden behind an archway, you might think that your going in via the back door. Inside is splendid; Hollywoods scenic designers would struggle to come up with a better look. The atmosphere is relaxed and measured, your not going to be disturbed by noisy neighbours here. A brief but exciting and well balanced menu offer something for everyone and with the exception of two dishes everything could be adjusted to meet the needs of our coeliac friend. We chose a house Bordeaux to go with dinner which like the food was superb.
Sweet french restaurant near farringdon London, eat the rabbit!
The Crowd: We are the youngest people at Le Café Du Marché. By far. Except maybe the people sitting next to us, who I decide are having an affair. I worry that I've made the wrong choice, especially when the restaurant dims the lights and starts singing H
Le Cafe Du Marche is located by Charterhouse Square, and is a lovely cafe hidden from the hussle and buzzle of the city. With a great range of French dishes on the menu, there is enough choice for every taste. The quality of the food is great, and the staff are lovely. On top of that while you have a romantic dinner they have live music almost every night!
We were served by Giuseppe who was absolutely great. He was very attentive and catered to our desired experience. The food was lovely and Giuseppe was able to help recommend different dishes whilst being patient as we were indecisive! The atmosphere was also a perfect balance between classy and laid-back - I would definitely recommend.
The Monk fish and ratatouille was wonderfully cooked. So delicate and deliciously French.
The dark wood decor does make the place rather dark even during the light evenings so if you enjoy a dark atmospheric candle lit dinner, this will be the place.
There was live piano music but the hard wooden surfaces bounce the noise too easily so the music is easily drowned out by the noisy dinner conversations.
Definitely requires a few visits to enjoy all the dishes.
I love this restaurant and came to find out about it through photographing a wedding there in 2021. The couple had hired the upstairs of the restaurant and it worked so well for their wedding of 30 people. They had the meal (the food was delicious) and then danced in the evening. Such a cool place! Had an amazing lunch here.
It has a traditional French vibe and coupled with the amazing food, it feels very authentic.
I recommend the squid risotto with black ink as a starter. It's so nice, almost melting in your mouth, and with a very subtle garlic flavor that's oh-so-French!
The duck main is equally delicious, cooked medium with a nice harmony of flavor and texture.
The service is also very good. Staff have been very attentive and they genuinely try to make the dining experience superb.
Fantastic all around.
Took my French friend to this beautiful restaurant tucked in a lovely mews in Charterhouse Square and we both loved it. What’s not to love. Beautiful romantic ambience, dim lights and candle lit tables in traditional French decor style, live Piano music / and jazz. Staff very friendly, professional and attentive.
Food was glorious. Beautifully cooked, fresh, tasty and served neatly. Everything was perfect and I am certainly going back again!

Excellent bistro with a set menu that blends traditional with some innovation around fresh ingredients, plus a well curated wine list.
A big added bonus was the excellent jazz duo (see video).
Service was great - the staff are really attentive and anticipate your needs while dining.
However the food could be improved. For example, the crème brûlée had a thick layer of caramelised sugar on top - too thick actually, so it felt like eating hard candy on top of the custard. The mains were better though.
Cozy atmosphere and authentic French cuisine. The lamb rack for two is so tender that it melts with very little chewing needed. Not too salty or oily.
I will come back again.
Had the loveliest dinner here. The food was so fresh and tasty. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We had some great live music. The restaurent is a lot bigger than I thought it would be. Would definitely recommend.
Have been going to this restaurant for many years with a group of ladies. Food always excellent and staff unfailingly polite and efficient. Love the upstairs dining room where we are able to chat without other diners around
