This is the kind of bourgeois place we don't normally frequent but I liked it. Lots of City folk in suits. There was a cloak room. Elegant, attentive service. Great view of the Thames. A bottle of red house wine was great value at £20 and light and fresh.
The food was really rather good. We shared the pear and blue cheese salad to start. A good variety of leaves including beet leaves and frissee. A tiny bit of finely minced shallot as well as the pears and blue cheese. Dressing was heavily infused with thyme but a little on the oily side for my companion.
My main was the crab linguine with a side of charred broccoli. Broccoli was still firm, which is how I like it. Crab linguine was quite fiery with chilli, and contained plenty of crab. Be warned this comes sprinkled with cheese, which is a no-no in Italy. A little underseasoned but there was salt and pepper on the table.
My companion's fish and chips was the best fish in chips in recent memory for both of us. Thin crunchy batter on the fish. Amazingly good chips were crunchy, not greasy, and pillowy inside. Homemade tartar sauce with with finely chopped onions and capers was incredibly fresh tasting. Mushy peas were made with fresh peas, not dried. So a lighter, brighter take on classic fish and chips. My dining partner vowed to order this again sometime. The fish and chips come with curry sauce, which we asked to be replaced with bearnaise. It was nice they didn't charge us extra for the replacement.
Head Chef John Harrison finds delicious inspiration in the bounty of the Cornish coast and brings fresh flavour to the modern British menu at Northbank Restaurant and Bar near St Paul’s. Kemey and I were mightily impressed with the chef’s largely seaward leaning approach on ingredient and focus on Cornwall during our recent weekday dinner at Northbank.
I absolutely love the City of London. Not Oxford Street or Soho. But the real City. The central, money-making, high-rise building, suit wearing part. It’s ever-changing, buildings are getting taller and surprisingly it’s turning from a drinking hive into a foodie one. The cocktails are still good, but the food is now even better. Not to mention that weekends in this part of London are still relatively quiet – making it the perfect place to roam the endless streets, riverbanks and alleyways.
“I love a tasting menu. Maybe it’s just the greedy girl in me, but I want to try everything.”. Most Londoners and visitors to London have heard of Southbank. They’ve got a vague concept of where it is and what to expect once they get there. The Tate. The National. Restaurants. Buskers. Icecreams.
Great value tasting menu, amazing views of the south bank and fantastic cocktails. If around the south bank then visit Northbank, its a hidden gem
Northbank is located just by the Thames River with sweeping views of the river and some of London's best known landmarks. From the private terrace there's a view straight across the river to Shakespeare's Globe, The Shard and the Millenium Bridge and just behind the restaurant lies St Paul's Cathedral...
Northbank is one of my favourite London restaurants. Located on the river bank it's a lovely place to sit and have a drink outside or in the classy bar when it's a little chillier. The restaurant itself is stunning with full-length windows all along the river front, the tables are well-spaced and there's both booths and tables. It's perfect for a romantic evening, business dinner or group catch-up. You can get private and intimate dining pretty much wherever you sit. The service is on point - professional, polite and fast, without being overbearing or overly pretentious. The food is SUBLIME, but you do pay for it. Amouse bouches and petits fours are thrown in (bonus) and the few times I've been I've been stuck by what to order as there are so many appetising options. For starters, favourites have included the Cornish gurnard with tempura rock oyster, seaweed cream and sea purslane (sensational), the roasted venison with parsnip puree, quince and walnut dressing, and braised ox cheek tortellini with morels and mushroom butter sauce. For mains - I can recommend the steak; good quality meat cooked to order. Their chips need a little work and they could be a little more generous with their side sauces, but this is nitpicking to the max. The cauliflower & bone marrow gratin side is also delicious! For puds, the dark chocolate fondant with peanut butter ice cream BLEW MY MIND (and I am a bit of a fondant connoisseur and, although I didn't try it, the rhubarb & apple crumble with cinnamon ice cream looked pretty damn good and I was told it was too! A must in London. You can read my full review on my blog :)
Northbank is a restaurant that I have frequented in the past, and although excellent, it was on the more expensive side of things. Hence, when I came across an Opentable offer for 50% off food, I jumped at the chance of a more purse-friendly revisit! As a really classy restaurant located on the riverbank with a lovely view of London Bridge, it seemed the perfect choice for an upcoming double date. Michael and I, his old school friend and girlfriend, popped along last Friday evening. Service: Michael and I arrived just a little past 8 to find our dates for the evening already settled in in the welcoming bar with plush leather seating and red and slate decor. Since we were already a little late we opted to head straight for the table. A greeter efficiently took our name and coats, and showed us the way. We were taken to a nice enough table, located at the outer circle of the dining area by the window, but I was really pining for a booth table as I find them so much more intimate and fun, plus the lighting was a million times better to get some decent food shots (which is obviously the whole point of eating out, right?). I asked if we could switch and was politely told that, unfortunately, there were no booths available, much to my dismay! Oh well, worse things have happened. Plus the arrival of a carafe of iced tap water and warm bread & butter swiftly distracted us; we wasted no time getting stuck in whilst we discussed the many, many inviting options on the menu. As we were just finishing smacking the taste of delicious, creamy, proper English butter from our lips, the manager came over to inform us that a party of 4 dining in one of the booths had just asked for the bill, and we were welcome to move once they had left, if we so pleased. I thought this was very courteous and accommodating of them, since we had already made a mess of our tablecloth and the number of booths is rather limited, so we were very grateful for
Oh man. Northbank, you so good. I came here on a date with my dude, and I have to say it is PHENOMENAL. We had an early dinner because we're both weirdos, so we were actually the first people in the restuarant, but in the lead up we kind of hung around romantically a little way down the Thames path under wobbly ol' Millenium Bridge.
My two-course meal consisted of a tender, rare venison dish to start, served with walnut dust and green - the meat was rich and seasoned to perfection and the accompanying tastes were a mix of delicate and complimentary that balanced beautifully. My main was pork served with parsnip puree, crispy hog's pudding and crackling, and again despite a small-medium sized serving, the big flavours really delivered and the meal was one to be savoured. The dude's courses were rabbit terrine with bruschetta and lamb with seasonal veg and potatoes - I can't remember the exact wording, but it looked a lot fancier than I've made it sound, and tasted divine.
Not only that, but when we had been seated they immediately brought warm loaves and soft butter for us, and when in the interim between ordering starter and it arriving we were brought an amuse bouche of cauliflower soup with truffle oil, only a little pot but completely unexpected and therefore all the tastier! And later 2 delicious flapjack pieces with the bill. The service was faultless, with our waitress and the manager being beyond attentive and withdrawing whilst we ate. I will definitely be coming here again.
I recently tried this place and had a great time here. The food was excellent and was cooked to perfection. The basic attraction of this place is it's wonderful ambience with beautiful decor and amazing views. The service was pretty quick and efficient with the staff being quite warm and friendly. Thus, I would love to visit this place again and would recommend others to try it as well.
I visited this restaurant with my boyfriend during his visit to London. It definitely has become one of my favorite restaurant's here. The place has a very refined look in the decor. i didn't have any complains with the service as they promptly greeted us. The food is delicious. They have an extensive list of wines available and have priced them considering different type of people's budget's which i look forward to ordering on my next visit here.
The place looks like it is an office from the outside but this is one restaurant you should not judge by its looks. The location is quite convenient and offers a great view. As soon as you enter the venue, you get a taste of the amicable staff and the capable owner of the place. The food is very well presented and delights you equally with its amazing flavours. We ordered the fig tatin and lentil soup which were both amazing, I highly recommend this place to everyone as it deserves to be known more.
The location of the restaurant is artistic: adjacent to the Millennium bridge and near the beautiful Church. I enjoyed my meal and am happy about the food being fairly priced. I would recommend you try the white sauce pasta and drink the lemon and coriander soup. You will surely relish it!
This place serves some fantastic food, and I've always loved having a meal here, though my wallet doesn't have the same opinions about this place. We generally order a couple of drinks to begin with, which are prepared professionally by the bartenders, and taste absolutely amazing.
The owner of the place is a lovely lady, and most of the servers are quite friendly and helpful.
The only negative about this place is that the prices are a little high, and apart from that, there is nothing not to love about this restaurant.
I recently visited this place with one of my friends and had a wonderful time here. The food was excellent, especially the sea bass which was cooked to perfection. The service was pretty good with the staff being quite warm and friendly. The desserts were wonderful as well. Thus, I would love to visit this place again and would frecommend others to try it as well.
The views are pretty amazing and the décor is also good. At the time I went, the restaurant was quite empty. The menu was an extensive one with a lot of options to choose from but I must say that the quality of food was pretty average though large portions were served. If you are planning to visit this restaurant, then try their meal deal otherwise you will feel the food as quite an expensive one.
This place has the best view of the Thames as it faces the Modern Shakespeare Theatre. Located on the side of a river, this restaurant is of top notch quality. A casual bar, this place proves to be a fun option when you are hanging out with friends. Those of you wandering around the Southbank, must give this place a shot!
Visited this place earlier today and I just cannot wait to get back here. They serve the most amazing food and the service is awesome. The staff members are pleasant and calm and also, very attentive. From the food to the service to the ambiance, everything about this place is amazing and worth giving a shot. Strongly recommended.
Good set menu, perfect for a week night date night. The food won’t knock your socks off but it’s a good meal for the price (we spent £30 a head - adding sides onto the set two course menu and service). The unique thing about this restaurant is the view - as the name suggests, it’s on the north bank looking back at the Tate Modern and Shakespeare’s Globe. Overall a lovely dinner experience and a good location but probably not a venue for a big occasion.
Dined here on Saturday evening and this was my first visit to northbank. Everything was faultless. the drink at the bar with the very friendly and knowledgeable bar tender (he assisted us choosing a gin to have fantastically). Once at the table, we were talked through the menu and guided as how much we needed to order. Food was spot on. My boyfriends ribeye was “one of the best he’s ever had” The manager on duty recommended a lovely bottle of wine. And it was reasonably priced. Finished off with the Cornish cheese selection. All in all, a wonderful evening and I will be back! And will recommend to friends.
Dining at Northbank was a very pleasant experience. From the moment we walked in, staff made everything easy for us, were very attentive, friendly and detail oriented. We were seated in a wonderful spot by the window so we enjoyed views of the Shard and millennium bridge as we dined.
The food itself was excellent. Everything well prepared and presented in a beautiful way. Fish of the day was delicious so was the crispy cornish pastry. In my opinion their interpretation of British food is one of my absolute favourites.
Overall great experience, cozy place, good food.
A pleasant weekday dining experience with my husband. We had the crab doughnuts and pan fried scallops to start following by the fillet steak with truffle chips and ox cheek bourguignon with horseradish mash. We finished our meal off with a sticky toffee pudding and Bailey's ice-cream martini. The food was well-cooked and pleasant to eat, but not out of this world. The service was friendly and attentive.
Really good food. People treated us very good. I can only recommend that restaurant. Would go there again. We had a good time.
It was my second time and I would go again as it the food was absolutely delicious. Had the fish of the day (Hake) which was prepared beautifully. I ordered roasted vegetables to go with it which were also tasty. The waiter and waitresses were very attentive. It is quite pricey unless you have a taste card. Love the location, looking over at The Globe and the hustle and bustle.
Fabulous flavoursome food with beautiful presentation. The staff were very attentive and good with my food allergies helping adjust to accommodate. Nice bar area too and relaxed atmosphere in restaurant
Great spot for lunch, coffee or drinks with views over the Thames. Friendly staff. Efficient service. Great food
A great surprise! Unassuming from the outside. Fantastic food and service inside. Perfect for a quick lunch with your team or a client... looking over the river with the Globe and Tate Modern as a backdrop.
The snacks are immaginative and flavoursome. we opted for crab and potato doughnuts...delicious... and the beef tacos... subtle with a hint of chill and lime.
I chose the Ox cheek and smoked tongue. A healthy portion of rich, tender, succulent amazingness. my colleagues chose the lamp rump... pink to perfection.
deserts were delicious (both the cookie and the Apple tart), but we all thought the mains were the standout course.
this is a great place for modern, quality European menu that is cooked well. The team really looked after us.
I really cant recommend this place highly enough.
Enjoy!
Food was realy nice , price is ok, they have delucious drinks and the staffs are very nice. I recomend. They havr tables outside and inside.
I've been meaning to come here for a while. I met some girlfriends for dinner here and we were v impressed with nearly everything. The service, the food, the views were fantastic. We were really looked after by their friendly staff. I want to come back in the summer to use their terrace bar. The only thing let it down was the ladies toilets didn't flush and some seats were broken and the taps only let a trickle of water through. This can be fixed easily enough. I would recommend this place for dinner.
Someone in that kitchen is a very talented cook. We chose from the February set menu and the food was impressive. The ingredients were well chosen and the food was accurately cooked. The house wine which came with the meal was also surprisingly good. I've paid a lot more elsewhere for a meal of this quality and will definitely be returning. My friend's gin & tonic was rather better my cocktail.
Took my wife here on Friday night just gone for dinner. First impressions very friendly and attentive staff, nice décor and lovely view - when booking asked for a table by the window and we got a good one. Excellent service and food was of the highest quality. Only disappointment was my wife's pork steak was served undercooked and slightly raw and my plaice was not served with a sauce so found it slightly dry in that respect.
I hosted a lunch for 20 in the semi-private part of the restaurant with a set menu. Everything was perfect. The service was excellent - friendly and discreet. The food was delicious, from the original starters, beautifully cooked lamb. duck and fish mains to the delicious desserts and cheese platter. The location and setting by the river made it all the more enjoyable. Will definitely return!! Should add that the wines we chose were also excellent!!
An excellent dinner and a beautiful setting. 100% the best place that accepts the Tastecard!
Top notch restaurant!! Visited for first time tonight 18.10.19 to meet a friend for dinner. Great location, modern and pleasing decor and absolutely charming staff. French bar man/waiter was particularly engaging. Food was of a high standard too. Highly recommended. Treat yourself!! I'll definitely be back again.
Limited and interesting menu. The starters didn't excite me but the ribeye and chips were on the money. The recommended ( I think Italian) red was almost spot on and managed to please varying choices, so a well thought out selection. My trifle was the tastiest, richest and lightest I have had for a long while. Voluptuous you might say. Another shared dessert...Not cheap, but certainly worth considering for a decent meal in the city.
