The food was amazing ! Tagine was not as good as what you get in Morroco, but still really nice for London. Hummus lacked slight salt but its good for those with hypertension - so no complaints. Really nice vibe ✨️

Superb restaurant, had the lamb and chicken tagines with cous cous for main courses as part of a 4 course set menu. All the food was delicious, big portion sizes, we could barely finish. Hummus, halloumi, and yoghurt with bread for starter, Baklava for dessert was great too and finished off with a nice mint tea.
Interior is lovely, very authentic Moroccan, relaxing and vibrant atmosphere. Amazing value for money, using Tastecard.
Service was outstanding and friendly from Mehdi and Walid. Thank you guys, we will be back again and reccomend this place to everyone.

Starter mezze served hot, the falaffel light and crispy without being dry, the halloumi (or another, similar cheese?) evenly fried. There’s warm pita bread and mild nutty hummus on demand. Personnel very friendly, arab-speaking (Moroccan) and laid back. Service is generally well timed. We had the Marrakech menu with lamb and chicken tagine. The broth was slightly sweet and needed balancing with a dollop of harissa. One of us had a glass of Oulod Thalek (sorry if i misspell the name, it’s a full wine, a bit like a Gamay) and the other had fresh mint tea. To conclude the meal, a selection of baklava that was small yet satisfactory, our bellies filled to the brim. Disclaimer: I have never visited North Africa but having lived many years in Paris i felt that Souk provides similarly authentic flavours.

What a gem of a place my friend and I found for a pre-theatre dinner very close to St Martins theatre on Monday! The authentic Moroccan decor, delicious food was a lovely surprise and we really felt like we were in Morocco with the local music playing in the background! Our young very attentive waiter was a relative of the owner, very sweet guy. My coat even matched the beautiful upholstery haha! 😁

Extremely impressed by Souk. The menu is very inclusive. The way how staff are attentive with allergens is incredible.
We ordered a lot from the menu. We were stuffed at the end. High quality and good portion size. So impressed with this restaurant. Authentic middle Eastern decor and vibe. Hummus, vegetable tagine, prawns, sardines, falafel salad - all delicious!
I will be coming back for sure.

Souk is tucked away on a side street just off the Seven Dials in the Covent Garden area of London. It is like a little pocket of North Africa in the centre of the city. First, you walk through a covered terrace full of shisha pipes and cushions, before reaching the main restaurant which itself is beautifully decorated in a similar vein.

I attended Souk Medina for a birthday dinner. Everyone was given three menus to choose from, listing a mix of starters and mains and deserts. The menus were over £20 per head. No mention of sharing AT ALL. The waiter even did a head count of how many people wanted each menu. <br/><br/>The starters consisted on a thin layer of houmous smeared across a plate, 4 stuffed vineleaves and 3 tiny pieces of falafel to be shared amongst 5 PEOPLE. Similarly for dinner, we received 2 small plates of couscous, chicken and lamb tagine between a table. I went for my friends 25th birthday for a meal, with 14th others so a big group. It was a Saturday, so it was relatively busy. We were seated in our reserved area upstairs which felt disconnected from the restaurant. Great if you want privacy. But not so great if you want atmosphere. We were quickly joined by another small group of 3 and the belly dancer appeared. Don't worry if you pop to the loo and miss her the first time. She's on rotate and considering there is only one, you can't miss her. The decor was lovely but dated. The 1 waiter was definitely over whelmed. We all ordered the Marrakesh menu, to make it easy for the waiter. But when the food came out she forgot loads. Humus was missing falafel, our hallumi and vine leaves were thrown onto the table randomly. And when distributed we found there wasn't enough. Only one plate of yogurt cucumber ( placed next to me, RESULT #mine) So many went without the actual full set menu. When we called the waiter to let her know, she asked us what we wanted her to do about it. We told her we would like to speak to the manager, as we wasn't going to pay for a meal we didn't receive. He quickly came to our aid and provided us with more, although still not enough and some went without the hallumi and vine leaves were nice. Humus was bland and over blended. Main was lamb and chicken tagine. Lamb was tasteless- the chicken was nice but the cous cous over cooked and had no veg through it like it suggested on the menu. Service was fast as many in the restaurant from looking at there plates on my way to the bar, had ordered the set menu. Drinks were lovely I had the souk cocktail which was nice. I wouldn't go back. if you fancy a real experience, with great hospitality and flavoursome food, with amazing belly dancers and better atmosphere and better decor head to KENZA!!!

With middle eastern music in the background, belly dancing as entertainment and amazing food, there is nothing more that you will need here.<br/>I tried the Casablanca feast menu as our server recommended this to us. The meze consists of pitta bread, falafel, humous, vine leaves n salad. The pitta bread was warm and fresh. The falafel tasted too good. It has been ages that I tasted original falafels freshly prepared. By the time meze was finished, frankly i was full but mains were yet to come.<br/>The mains contained tagine of chick peas, tangine of chicken, couscous, lamb. I particularly liked the lamb and tagine of chick peas.<br/>We finished our dinner with bakhlava and Moroccan mint tea.

I'm eating around the world in London and this week I am having Moroccan food at Souk Medina. Now I was supposed to go for dinner here on a date, but with the risk of this review turning into a sob story; the date stood me up. Initially I went to cancel the reservation, but after a lot of coaxing from the maitre d' , I ended up staying. I love Souk Medina and this wasn't the first time I was here. Walking into the restaurant is like entering Aladdin's cave. There were cosy corners where punters lounging on comfy cushions were enjoying food and drinks. Exotic fabrics draped along the walls, North African wood work and lanterns giving off soft light made me feel like I was teleported to Marrakesh. I set down at a table for one and ordered a glass of red. The menu features all the Moroccan favourites like couscous and tagines. A tagine is a traditional Moroccan dish that is cooked in a clay pot, giving it a distinct flavour. I went for a lamb tagine with pears and tomatoes in a cinnamon sauce, which was nice, although I could have done with a bit more or some bits on the side. Especially for the price they charge for a main. Feeling slightly only the lonely, I didn't choose to have a pudding. Souk Medina is a fun place, much better enjoyed with someone. I absolutely love this place. It is a Lebanese restaurant, which you will be able to tell as soon as you walk in. There has been a lot of thought put into the décor, there are red curtains, a tarot card reader by the entrance and lots of patterns. lanterns are used for the decorations as well as lighting. <br/><br/>We were greeted by a friendly waiter and he took us to our table, which was very comfortable and had lots of pattern cushions o the chairs. My friend and I both ordered the lamb tagine because it looked so good on the menu. <br/><br/>Food arrived within 5 minutes and the tagine was just perfection. There was so much flavour in everything, the lamb was seasoned and cooked well, the vegetables were seasoned well and the sauce was amazing. Food gets a 10/10. <br/><br/>This place has such a nice ambiance that my friend and I just sat there for a while chatting after we had finished eating. The lighting creates such an intimate setting and with music in the background, which was very calm, and not too loud, and I found it to be very relaxing. So the atmosphere gets a 10/10 too. <br/><br/>If you want to smoke shisha there is a different branch you can go to, but his place is perfect if you wan to have dinner. The service was exceptional and I would definitely recommend this place.

Souk Medina caters well for big groups, offering up tasting menus that are divided up amongst the group. My memories of tagines from a honeymoon spent in Morocco are not good, while it does make the meat come out supremely tender, the flavour leaves something to be desired. Thankfully this wasn’t the case at Souk Medina and exceedingly dishes start speeding their way out of the kitchen at breakneck speed, piled helter-skelter on to the table. My favourites were the grilled halloumi, garlicky yoghurt dip and the chicken tagine, which were clearly the hits of the night. Belly dancers amused us while we ate and the lady of honour even gets up to join in a bit of the action! A fun night out if you’re with a big group, probably not the most gourmet experience you’re ever going to have, but a good bit of fun in covent Garden!

The best thing about this place is their decor and Interiors.As soon as you enter the place it gives you the feel of a Moroccan restaurant and you feel you have reached a different land altogether. The dark set up with lamps , low sofas with cushions and the walls just add to the feel of the Moroccan restaurant.The great decor gives you great expectations about the food and you end up a bit disappointed.<br/><br/>The hummus and pita are quite decent. The lamb skubeh is also a decent choice. The food at souk medina is a bit bland and lacks that x factor.<br/>Souk Medina also has a similar branch located very close to it called Souk bazaar.

You won't believe where you've walked into after seeing the shop front. I felt like I was in Morocco from the moment I stepped in! The beautiful traditional interior creates an incredible setting, with 3 floors of seating - each level has it's own feel about it. <br/><br/>There is a selection of dishes to choose from. Two of my visits were for a birthday party so we had the set menu which comes with 3 courses and a selection of dishes which can be shared. Unfortunately the food doesn't always match up to expectations, as I found most of the dishes to be quite bland and tasteless. <br/><br/>The staff are helpful and friendly, and do their best to keep up with the rush during evenings. There is also live entertainment from belly dancers during the evenings which adds to the experience! <br/><br/>The price is expected for a Central London restaurant, you're better off leaving it for an occasion. Party bookings are very popular here.

The interior is expressive to say the least; there is an exotic ambience created by, subtle, almost dark lighting, cave like dining areas, low seating luxury cushions and a maze of tea lights. The interior out shines the food in many ways. Their dishes lack the same wow factor delivered by the decorations. The tastes are subtle rather than powerful or inventive and the portions are not on the liberal side.<br/>Could I Afford Seconds?<br/><br/>Souk Medina has many deals such as their set lunch and dinner menus which make it affordable. However the portion sizes on these can be small.<br/><br/>Overall:<br/><br/>This restaurant is ideal for its setting and is nice for a few relaxed drinks with friends. They also have a smaller sister restaurant called Souk Bazaar not too far away.

I opted for Express Lunch, which gives you a choice between three/four starters and three main dishes. I had harrira soup for a starter. It was a bit spicy — peppery, I'd say. Very delicious. It was served in a small bowl with pieces of pitta bread and a thick slice of lemon. There seemed to be a bit too much bread, or too little soup. I swear I could eat 4 times bigger bowl and still have appetite for more!<br/><br/>For the main course I chose the only veggie option available: moussaka. It was a smallish piece served warm with a tiny bowl of cold salad of cabbage, garbanzo beans, caulliflower, and some other vegetables.<br/><br/>Yes, "small" is a word that repeats a lot in my review(s). The food was good. The moussaka was quite nice and the soup was fantastic, but the sizes were more like samples for tasting rather than to fill you up.

This place gets a lot of mixed reviews. I have been a few times and have contrasting experiences and overall views on each visit. One of the main reasons that could affect your experience is where are seated and the time of week you visit. There are 3 floors to this very large and Moroccan themed restaurant and bar. The traditional and authentic Decor adds to the experience and atmosphere of being in a foreign land. There are 3 levels, a top floor balcony style area, the large main floor and the low light basement style cave.<br/><br/>The seats downstairs are very small and the table is low which means your knees are hitting the table and is rather uncomfortable. You have to keep leaning forward to get your food, people with a bad back you have been warned!<br/><br/>As for the food it can be best described as average and some what disappointing. Most food lacks flavour and the quality of meats tends to be poor. Again, its hit and miss. I know my arab food well, the best test of any place is how good the chicken wings are, if you can't get that right you might be in trouble. Here the wings where "just okay" nothing to shout about. A few points are scored on presentation. I'm having hard time recalling on how good the food i ordered was as i came here on my birthday last year. (Sept 12) It was with a group of 8 , I ordered the Lamb Cutlets and well again the word disappointing comes to mind, it just lacked any imagination or taste. Not very memorable - which is why im finding it hard to talk about the food. This place is mainly for the experience, one of these experiences is the Belly Dancing.<br/><br/>Another area that needs improvement is service and staff attitude, theres 2 extremes, either food takes too long or they bring starters and mains out together.<br/><br/>Like many diners i used my tastecard and got 50% off the food, i wouldn't even consider eating here if it wasn't for my trusty tastecard. <br/><br/>Food - 3<br/>Atmosphere - 4.5<br/>Service - 3<br/>Value - 3.5

I went to Souk Medina with a group of old friends for a catch up having heard good things. We weren't disappointed, the Casablanca menu provided a good variety of food, no need for the usual dilemma of having to decide what to get, as you get a little bit of everything. The service was really good, as one of us had been delayed on a train travelling back to London, and they handled it well making sure food was prepared from the instant the last person arrived. Will be back!

Forgive me if if I visited this on an off night but I was less than impressed by Souk Medina! from a place that has so much potential it seems they have gotten a little complacent in recent times.<br/><br/>The decor is great, it has the real feel of a North Africa. Downstairs their are little 'booths' set in to the wall, very intimate for couples to sit in. At this stage I was excited and looking forward to what the evening had in store.<br/><br/>We went for a set menu in order to get a taste of as many things as possible. However we were left very disappointed with extremely small portions and poor quality meat. It comes to something where the hummus is the winning dish! This was made worse by the fact we were paying around £30 a head!<br/><br/>After dinner their is a traditional belly dancing which should be great entertainment (or at least something different) but it was something which ended up being watched through fingers as the dancer seemed half arsed and did a better job of making people feel uncomfortable, especially when seeking tips - I'm not one to frequent a lap dancing club but I'd imagine this would be less of a hassle for cash!!<br/><br/>So we left feeling underwhelmed by Souk. For a place of so much potential I think they have taken their eye off the ball. Given the amount of passing trade they get I assume their strategy is to maximize the income from each visit and worry about customer retention another day.

Too loud!. I organised my birthday in Feb 2012 at SOUK. I enjoyed the ambience and decor, the service was slow to reasonable. The food good, but over priced. The Belly Dancer was a disaster. To have the accompanying music at a volume far exceeding the capacity of the speakers, created a cacophony that had the entire floor stunned into silence. Even shouting was ineffective. So, we sat and waited for the dancer to eventually get to our table, admired the performance and starred at each other while she did the rounds. I asked the manager if he could adjust the volume, to which he replied, no. What a failure. He didn't even offer to "see what I can do". Having worked in the industry myself many years ago and having the responsibility for controlling the venue's ambience, the manager undid all the enjoyment we had experienced at `SOUK up until then. There's a volume knob on each and every amplifier or sound system, all he needed to do was adjust it down to a reasonable level. Consequently once our conversation was audible, we turned to discussing how such a simple thing could turn off so many customers, entirely unnecessarily. We were looking at the adjoining tables guests, who also had a puzzled look of disapproval on their faces. It's such a shame. The impact on the business is such that I will find an alternative restaurant for my meet ups when in London. I meet friends and clients in large groups, sometimes of up to 30 people on a regular basis. The previous restaurant I chose (Salvador & Amanda's) now has 30 new customers, taking 30 different groups of friends and clients to experience and enjoy their restaurant. So this is the loss SOUK will experience further more. So to finish off and sound like a scolding parent "turn that music down".

If you like belly dancers and Moroccan food, Souk Medina is the place for you. Just around the corner from Leicester Square, Souk Medina is a cozy restaurant featuring a large dining room and smaller private rooms called Casbah. We opted to sit in one of the private rooms with comfy low seats filled with pillows, low tables and the ceiling dramatically tented with cloth. We used our Taste Card to order the set menu which turned out to be both plentiful and tasty. As we waited for our appetizers to arrive, a scantily clad belly dancer entered the room. To all the men's delight, she whipped off her golden cape and started belly dancing as the music thumped louder in the small room. One of the customers even got enthusiastic enough to dance with her. Set menu for £25 was an ok deal, although it is hard not to overfill on huumus & aubergine starter! Lamb tagine with prunes was very good. However, belly dancing interlude felt a little forced, bill plus wine & tip came in at £47/head..not sure how. For that reason I'm on the fence.

Not a bad little hidden local in Covent Garden. I had walked past this place a number of times as I work in the neighbourhood, and it always looked interesting - especially being hidden off the side of Neal's Yard. I went with a friend and we had a table downstairs on a Friday night. The service was not bad and the starters we had (orange, feta & olive salad; an aubergine dish; and haloumi, were all very nice). The main course of Red Mullet Tajine was okay, and the deserts (go for the homemade ones, not the cakes which are bought in) were nice too. The tables and chairs are very low (so beware tall men!) and the place has a very nice vibe. They belly dancer came around 8pm and was fun too. Good place for friends to catch up or a good spot for a first date.

Horrible dry food, nice atmosphere and cocktails. Go for the drink not the food... Unless you're drunk.

Would not go for a romantic date but great for an office party! Good food, ambience and service for a large number.
