It has beautiful interiors with live jazz music in the night! Always a nice experience to go and dine here! It can also be a nice choice for special occasions as the ambience is beautiful with high ceilings! I am not too familiar with french cuisine but enjoyed the food on both occasions! It would be amazing if they increased the options in their meal plans!

The atmosphere and ambiance is simply amazing! Great staff and the food is top notch. As for portion size it could be a little more seeing how the restaurant is pretty expensive - the dishes I ordered were actually pretty big sized but seeing people around me have a plate with only 40% covered in food is a bit disheartening. The cheesecake and lemon meringue was bomb and worth an order and as it was a special occasion for my GF and I, they organised a nice little surprise when we ordered dessert. Great experience and worth a visit!

This place is wonderful. Not only was the decor lovely, but the meal and the service were topnotch as well. Prices, for Central London, were very reasonable and the ambience made it a very special time for me and my friends. Will definitely visit Brasserie Zédel every time I’m in London.

I seem to be going against the crowd here, but I wasn't very impressed.  The decor is lovely, and the service is good, but the food was pretty average.  They do have a gluten free menu which is helpful, but I ordered the chicken in a cream sauce with mushrooms, and that was really not what I got.  My chicken had been cooked in a red wine with lots of tomato, there were mushrooms, but the sauce was not creamy, and was barely thickened from the braising liquid.  Hubby had gluten free pumpkin soup for starters and did like that, so I suppose the dishes were hit and miss.

Brasserie Zedel is in the heart of London at walking distance from picadilly Circus. If you want to have an authentic brasserie experience without crossing the channel, Zedel is the place to be. Once inside, the decor would make you feel you are in a brasserie in Paris.
Food: It has a la carte menu with variety of choice for starters mains and dessert. We tried the foie gras for starters and was at par with what I had in similar brasserie in Paris.
Ambiance: This is the best part and kinda reminded me of Bouillon Chartier in Paris!
Service: is also great with a friendly staff. There was live performance on piano during lunch time which was a bonus.

The entrance to the place doesn't do justice to the grandeur of the actual restaurant area below. It revived the scene from many hollywood movies that have had similar diners set up as expensive restaurants. The ambiance is amazing and so was the food. Definitely a must-do when in London! Ordered the trout with leek and potato gratin on the side. Absolutely loved it!

We went there on a Saturday and I was awestruck by the ambience. It's a beautiful place, more like a ball room. On Saturdays, they have a live band and once you visit the place you are going to fall in love with the place and food they serve. My favorite was the duck and Salmon fish along with salted caramel cake in dessert.

Went here on Saturday but the tables were all full so decided to make a Sunday dinner reservation. The service was very pleasant, the ambience and the interior of the whole Zédel were gorgeous, foods were delicious (love the Onion Soup, salad, and Bœuf Bourgoignon best!); and the best thing is: affordable price. Would be glad to come back.

This is one of my favourite gem in London. On A Saturday night they have a live band. Their steak and fish is always perfect. A lot of people swear by the special, I think its 2 or 3 courses. It's a great deal! The floating island is a must for pud! Its not just gorgeous but tasty! It's a really beautiful venue and they have Jazz across the way if you're interested.

An extremely busy Saturday evening. No reservation so we happily sat at the bar. The French Brasserie was bustling, not a free table in sight.
We recieved our menu's almost immediately, from a fairly miserable bartender! I made a joke about his delightful smile and was given a 'look' in return. Humour lacking too...!
However, we ordered a delightful French white wine, and water.
My friend ordered a starter, the fish soup. Wow, it was delicious, with extremely crispy bread.
I had to keep dipping into my friends soup, a must have.
Our mains came shortly after, i ordered seabass with olive tapenade and small potatoes. Slightly too much oil for me, but i ate all of it with a smile on my face. My friends lemon sole was just as delicious cooked to perfection.
I had never heard of this huge restaurant, with various floors, a bar etc.
I was very surprised and loved that it was bustling, fitting with the London streets outside on a Saturday night. A great find.

Great decor from the 1920's but a very noisy place. The menu is rather limited but do not forget that this is brasserie. Had a seafood in dough which tasted good though the squid pieces were not tender. My friend had a seabass with wild mushrooms and he likes it.

A night on the town wound down with a maudlin performance replete with twinkling piano keys in a swank cocktail bar was the right mix for a Saturday outing in Soho. Kemey and I had a fun time this Saturday catching a performance by “ex-Las Vegas showgirl” Miss Hope Springs (as portrayed by drag artist and pianist Ty Jeffries) at the Crazy Coqs bar inside the art deco wonder world of Zédel near Piccadilly Circus.

Brasserie Zedel is part of a chain of restaurants we love to visit. From the street level it looks like an ordinary cafe however when you go inside and downstairs it is a very large, vibrant, eloquent cafe / restaurant. The ambiance is very nice so much so that you do not notice you are two level under the street level.

We had chicken in champagne sauce and a mains portion of steak tartare followed by a profiterol and some ice creams. All very nice and prices like 16 pound for the chicken or 19 for tartare looks very good value for money too.

İt is a very big area so a good chance of finding a seat without a reservation however it is almost always looking fullish so if you use any online reservation app i would book it.

Few places in London manage to cater for those dressing to the nines, and those in their threes, as well as Brasserie Zedel. On an early Saturday evening the lofty dining room, a beautifully decked out space plucked straight out of the Parisian Art Deco, had a mix of women in cocktail dresses, guys in shorts and tourists with families but Zedel manages to deftly cater for everyone with friendly smiles and attentive service. This is all behind a small and unassuming looking cafe entrance (the ZL Cafe) just off Piccadilly Circus.

A restaurant always has to provide an experience for you to remember, which usually it starts with the decoration or the service. Brasserie Zedel will not turn you down on neither of them. For such a big and busy restaurant it would be very easy to fall down into disaster. But on the contrary, everything it's so well organized, from the reservation system, to the welcoming and the very short wait in its American Bar, that you will feel you are navigating from one stop to another of your journey to your food. The service was extremely professional and diligent. Special mention to its elegant Art Deco interior and the delicate touches of dimming lighting and the soft music performed live by a jazz band. I'm not an expert on French cuisine, but what we had there and the experience will make us go back as many times as we can. A real gem in the middle of the most touristic areas of London.

I went here on Monday with friends, and could not recommend this place more. Such a grande venue, we all walked in and had the same reaction - wow! You would never know existed unless recommended by a friend to visit. Totally the type of place you can get dressed up for and have drinks in the bar after or go for a quick bite after work.

The service was impeccable and they had great apres theatre meals if you are keen to keep the costs lower and a separate  Vegetarian menu.

Will be going back her for sure - great for all ages and budgets.

A French brasserie with traditional French affair. Interiors, decoration and ambience would let you escape to Paris while being very close to Piccadilly. Food is generally traditional French selection at reasonable prices. Cocktails are well priced as well. We had garnished French chicken roast and pan roasted venison. Both dishes were cooked to perfection. Waiting staff is prompt and very helpful. Desserts were very delicious but not at par with what you find in France itself.

Final verdict: Would recommend this place for a nice hearty meal with all the French pompous.

With a history dating back to 1915, to say that the space Brasserie Zedel occupies is a London landmark is an understatement - it is very much part of the City's history. Starting out life as The Regent Palace Hotel, it was the largest hotel at the time of its opening and had the aim of being a more democratic version of the Ritz whilst being every bit as grand.

Fast forward to now and little has change apart from the public's appreciation of the decor because it is so seldomly seen. Stepping into the building is like being transported back to the 1930's where Art Deco reigned supreme as the design of choice.

It is this stunning surrounding Brasserie Zedel bravely calls home and where they are set the task to serve food of equal standard. After a long awaited visit, I'm pleased to find that they are very much up for it.

A menu of French origin to the point that you have to ask specially for a translated version, I started with the steak hache (fried chopped steak in pepper sauce with frites) which very much resembles a burger without the bun. It was delicious with a real meaty flavour which can only come from using high quality steak. However, I would suggest when ordering this to go one level down on your usual liking to how well you like your steak cooked to avoid it being overcooked and coarse.
Following this, the salmon fillet with wild rice and lobster sauce was delightful; a thick fillet of salmon cooked to perfection with a rich lobster sauce that was just out of this world.

Finishing with the parfait aux poires with caramel sale (pear parfait swimming in a delicious caramel sauce), I couldn't help but allow y attention to be drawn back to the stunning dining. As good as the food was, the decor is a feast for the eyes and there aren't many places which are quite as opulent.

If you love architecture as much as you love food, this place is for you.

I would never have known this place existed had it not been for our hosts in London. The restaurant is brilliantly located close to Piccadilly Circus. Set in the ballroom of an old hotel the restaurant makes you feel like you are part of a movie set. I went there during the week for lunch and the place was bustling which gave it a great energy and made the experience even better. Based on that, I would definitely recommend booking to secure a table. The French Onion Soup for a starter was delicious as was the Grilled Salmon Fillet with Wild Rice and Lobster Sauce. The macaroons and chocolate with coffee was a great end to our meal.

From the outside, the restaurant looks small but wait until you get inside and prepare to be amazed. I love the decor, the way the prepare the table with pink napkin and the live music (sometimes). Food was superb, I tried onion soup, escargot, carrot salad, steak hache, beef bourginon. My favourite has to be the steak hache with peppercorn sauce, so tender and tasty. Service was really good as well. Can't wait to come back!

If you like french cuisine and you are in Central London, you should definetely have dinner at this really interesting brasserie!
I had noticed that Zedel was a busy corner in Piccadilly... But never thought of the beautiful atmosphere hidden in the basement of the building where the restaurant is located.
Service absolutely professional and very friendly.
From the entrance you could feel happy people there for you!
The menu was set in both english & french and the waiter was very patient/polite and explained everything to us!
Started with onion soup and a piece of quiche. Both were delicious, especially the quiche! As a main I tried smoked salmon with toasted peppers and smashed potatoes on the side! They were very well cooked and very tasty!
On top of everything we got a selection of desserts... strawberry sorbe deeped in a glass of champagne, apple tart and profiteroles! I wish I had some of it right now! ;-)

Really enjoyed the food & atmosphere!

Excellent service!

I was working this last weekend and The Better Half (TBH) agreed to come and meet me for something to to eat when I was done. It had been a busy few weeks and I was feeling lazy, so suggested one of the perfectly acceptable chain restaurants near the office. He wasn't having any of it though and wanted us to be a little more adventurous. Sigh. I just wanted something comforting and easy! A quick scan through my bucket list and the various restaurant web sites, I decided that Brasserie Zedel would fit the brief nicely.

Brasserie Zédel is a French bistro that has been on our to do list for quite some time. Conveniently located by the tourist hot spot of Piccadilly Circus we found our chance as Mrs Nom could do no further walking when we hit the area. The brasserie is located in the basement and is deceptively big and spacious similar to Mash on Brewer Street. For a basement space the ceiling is unusually high. Just as well as there is a natural buzz in the restaurant which would become too much if the space was smaller.

BZ is fun, democratic and inexpensive - everything that e.g. Shrimpy's is not -with decent French food that will remind you of your first exchange with a Gallic teenager in 1986. Eggs mayonnaise or a salad with lardons for £3? Onglette and frites for a tenner? Cliched and delicious desserts for a few quid, washed down with a glass of Loire fizz for a fiver? S'il vouz plait messieursdames! We just walked right in, and had a very bon soir. Le singe est dans l'arbre, and I'm never spending more than £10 on a burger again.

Eating out in London, whilst one of my favourite past times, can be quite expensive and I therefore reguarly take advantage of pre-theatre menu offers, voucher deals and fantastic schemes such as the Tastecard. I was however pleasantly surprised when I discovered Brasserie Zédel as an affordable restaurant in the middle of the West End where, not only is the food good, but you get to enjoy it in beautiful surroundings. I'd heard about  Brasserie Zédel from a few different friends and heard nothing but good things, so when my sister suggested it for a get together one evening, I was delighted to finally get a chance to see what all the fuss was about. I enjoyed my meal so much I booked a table here again for mine and a friend's birthday lunch with the girls a few months later When I first entered the dining room at  Brasserie Zédel  I was overwhelmed at the decor. Overall, the dishes lack elements that make it different but it still tastes great most of the time especially for the price being charged (about £25 per head). I finally went to Brasserie Zedel for lunch near Piccadilly circus, as I heard so much about it in the last few months. I felt the French spirit as soon as I went inside. There is a small café at the entrance, then a corridor and stairs with vintage French prints on the wall.  I wasn't disappointed by the decoration and the atmosphere, the brasserie is situated on the lower ground floor in a massive bright room with marble pillars, and typical French brasserie seats. The room reminds me ' La Coupole ' in Paris, for those who saw the movie 'La Boum', La Coupole is the place where Poupette brings Vic (Sophie Marceau).  The only difference between this two place is the authenticity, one is (1927) and the other one is totally new. At Brasserie Zédel they serve French food, you can see their menu HERE . I went there at the busiest time, so we couldn't have a table for two, but we managed to get two seats on a shared table. No time or money to get to Paris to enjoy a very good brasserie? Well, there is no need to worry as Paris has come to London in the form of Braserrie Zédel.  Located off Piccadilly Circus in the former Regent Street Palace Hotel, this beaux art treasure has brought a touch of 1930s luxury back for the London dining public, for a surprisingly reasonable price. Food wise, you’ll find relatively modest portions, which match-up with the low prices, which is the formula that brasseries have always thrived on.  Dishes on the menu range from Alsacian choucroute, which is nicely served in a copper pan, to simple entré

I’ve noticed the Observer‘s Jay Rayner – one of our best restaurant critics and always entertaining to read – praise Brasserie Zedel a few times. From Mr Rayner, this means a lot. So I’ve been thinking I must try it and then a few weeks ago passed it by chance and duly noted its location, promising myself to return soon. Having decided to take another of my midweek ‘holidays’ in-between freelance jobs today, partly inspired by an invitation to a Members’ Preview of the John Singer Sargent exhibition about to open at the National Portrait Gallery, lunch first at Brasserie Zedel seemed an excellent plan.

Brasserie Zedel A little bit of Paris in the heart of Piccadilly: Where do food bloggers go for lunch?  Well, you know, we’ve been known to turn up in the most unexpected places.  But as it happens, Brasserie Zedel was recommended to me by another blogger and good friend of mine, The Hedonist – so when I arranged to meet Karen Burns Booth of Lavender and Lovage for lunch it seemed like a good place to try.  Especially as she spends a good part of her time living in France.  Literally just off Picadilly Circus, you reach the Brasserie by walking through the tiny cafe down some steps.  And you might just be stepping into La Coupole.  Grand in the traditional French Brasserie style I wondered how the food would live up to the surroundings!  It’s the brainchild of Chris Corbin and Jeremy King who also run The Wolseley and The Delaunay ,  both charming, successful and while not overpriced, not somewhere to go every day unless you have unlimited funds!

Brasserie Zedel is audacious in scope, stunning in reality while ridiculously light on the pocket; in London, these things so rarely go hand in hand that you keep asking yourself, 'what's the catch?'. It appears there is none, leaving you thinking, what's the secret? If there is one, it must be that of scale. Seating 250 people, turning tables, our waiter confirms they are nudging on 1,000 covers per day. It was a brave person who pencilled that number into the business plan and braver still when they said 'that allows up to price starters at £2.50'.  Yet behind this venture are Chris Corbin and Jeremy King of Wolseley fame, so hardly jokers, and in situating this mega-brasserie in the heart of London, just behind Piccadilly Circus, they throw down a challenge to every restaurant in the West End. Everything here seems ambitious and the Art Deco theme celebrates a period of achievement and hope, a shrinking world and a golden age of travel. It's a feast for the eyes even before you step

Zedel is a brasserie run by restaurateurs Corbin and King, opened in June 2012. It is situated in the cavernous space that was once The Atlantic Bar and Grill, which closed in 2005, and has been empty since then. The vast dining room seats 220 people at any one time, and there is a separate bar. It has been redecorated attractively in a vaguely art deco style, with a wooden floor and marble pillars. A piano on a ledge along one wall is hardly noticeable, such is the scale of the room. Zedel is named after a vintage car, a Swiss car manufacturer established in 1901. As a modern touch, there is free wi-fi for guests, with no pesky login needed.

Brasserie Zédel was clearly a very nostalgic journey for me above and beyond the Chartier link as I ordered a red Pineau des Charentes as my aperitif. Many childhood holidays were spent on the Cote Atlantique and throughout the Vendée where Pineau des Charentes is both plentiful and delicious, served chilled before a barbecue following a day playing in the surf. Usually a combination of Cab Sauv, Cab Franc and Merlot, it is fortified using eau de vie and aged for over a year. That said it is comparatively light and fruity but with port-like sweetness, at £3.50 a glass it is worth a try.

I am a massive fan of everything Chris Corbin and Jeremy King do - if I could eat breakfast at the Wolseley every day I would (I dream of having my own table there - "your usual table Sir..." etc) and nowhere does the "post theatre" late supper vibe better than The Delaunay .  So of course I couldn't wait to check out Brasserie Zedel (which is no longer their latest venture given the recent opening of Colbert on Sloane Square - stay tuned for another blog post). Those  of you who were living it large in the late 90's will have no doubt have indulged yourselves at the Atlantic Bar & Grill, which was the last high profile occupant of this vast space.  As much as I sometimes get nostalgic for some Millenium coke & champers action, Brasserie Zedel is totally more my thing these days.  I recommend you start your evening with a cocktail at Bar American - before heading in to  this loving recreation of a grand Parisian bistro.  The food is well made bistro fare - the last time I went I had a

It's rather poetic then that in its new incarnation as Brasserie  Zedel , what was once London's most exclusive venue is now among its most democratic, offering all-day dining at extremely accessible prices to a staggering 240 covers at a time. Reservations are taken (fancy!) but a substantial proportion of tables are kept for walk-ins meaning that, unlike Atlantic, any and everyone is able to get in.

The vast majority of tempting starters come in at under £5, although it’s well worth spend a couple of extra pounds on the delicious Frog’s legs, served in a richly garlicky and herbaceous sauce and what appeared to be a meat jus. Take a look at the mains, and it’s more of the same. Traditional French dishes such as Confit duck and Boeuf Bourguignon are priced at under £10, whilst even a beautifully cooked plate of rib-eye Steak frites costs just £18.50.

Anyone who's ever moaned about the price of eating out in London, consider this little scenario. You're in Piccadilly, the heart of rip-off tourist London, a stone's throw from the Rainforest Café and God knows how many branches of Aberdeen Angus, and you're hungry. Finding anywhere worthy of your custom is a struggle in this part of town, but you spot a grand entrance to a new all-day brasserie just off Regent St and, deciding it's either that or something from Pret, you wander inside. Down a plush staircase and into a vast, bright, high-ceiling room bedecked with marble columns and covered liberally with gold leaf, you are greeted by friendly staff in smart monochrome outfits and shown to a table. From the stubbornly French menu you order the soup du jour and kick back with a large basket of crunchy sliced baguette, salted butter and a jug of tap water. The soup is hot and fresh, hardly the world's greatest show of gastronomic fireworks but pleasant and filling, and you have few comp

I’ll keep this one short and sweet. I really like Brasserie Zédel. It’s got a great central location, it’s huge (there’s almost always a table available) and the food is decent. Oh, and it’s well priced. Blai and I visited one weekend and dined on their cheapest main course – the Steak Haché, Sauce au Poivre et Frites (£8.75). It was a good sized portion and makes for a nice change from the usual burger (which is essentially what a steak haché is but without the bread). A side of Epinards à la Crème  (£3.23) was delicious and had us scraping the bowl clean. Desserts were a brilliant Ile Flottante (£3.95) and a very good but slightly less brilliant Profiteroles au Chocolat Chaud (£5.00) (that needed its chocolate sauce to be hotter). I returned again recently with friends one evening and was impressed with their confit de canard and their tarte Tatin. The food went down well with everyone – it was all very good and did I mention that it is all very well priced?   In addition to the bras

I went to the Brasserie Zédel for a rare mid-week lunch out (and a copious lunch it was too!)

The large underground space was bustling on a Thursday, but the service was prompt. Once I placed my order, it didn't take long before I got a little basket with proper baguette (very moreish) and some butter. The starter arrived soon afterwards: the soupe de poisson et sa rouille (fish soup served with a traditional Provençal sauce and some grated cheese) - all good.

There was a bit of a break before the main course arrived (no objection from me though - I loved the bread and butter!). The choucroute Zédel is served on a tray placed on a heated surface on the table. The bacon sauerkraut cooked with wine was covered in porky delights: ham hock, garlic sausage, more bacon and a frankfurter. There was no way I couldfinish it all, despite my best efforts!

The menu is quite extensive, full of popular brasserie choices. I didn't check the dessert menu - there was no room left! The wine list is good too, with lots of different wines served by the glass or in a carafe. My Alsace Pinot Gris did not disappoint.

The space itself is impressive - the outside does not prepare you for the space underneath your feet. Art deco meets baroque here, and the inscriptions in French add to the charm. There is also a bar and a cabaret (obviously not open at lunchtime)

This is the second time I have eaten here the first time was for my friend's birthday and there were 7 of us. My friend booked well in advance so we had a lovely table just under the stunning clock, we had plenty of space and we had a good view of the live band. I was on a bit of a budget at the time which I thought I would find hard to keep to at a place like this, but I was happy to find a 3 course meal for £11.75 on the set menu. The starter was shredded carrots, I wasn't expecting to like this but the dressing turned raw carrots into a tasty light starter. The main was pan fried chopped steak with a pepper sauce and french fries. Desert was a tarte aux fruits. I thought my meal was amazing until I saw my friend's meal she had the sea bass. I had major food envy so I promised myself I would go again when I'm not on a budget.

I was planning a catch up dinner recently with 3 of my friends and suggested we eat at Brasserie Zedel. When I booked a table over a week in advance there were no tables available but the lady on the phone suggested that we come and wait in the bar next door and they would give us a table. And that is what we did, we had a small table at the bar which was a great place to catch up with the girls over a few cocktails and virgin mojito for my 6 month pregnant friend. After 40mins we then got a table in the main dinning room right by the bar. The table was small and cosy perfect for a date but not so great for a group of 4. But we didn't mind so much as we just wanted to eat. This time I ordered snails as a starter that I shared with my friend as someone recommend it to me. I really liked the butter and basil sauce it came with and asked for some bread so I could clean my plate with it. For my main course I had the duck on white beans with french fries. I loved every single bite the duck was cooked to perfection and it was so easy to cut right off the bone. My meal came up to £50 in the end as I shared a bottle of champagne without alcohol it would have been £25 which is good value in piccadilly. I have paid more for food in the same area but the quality didn't match. I definitely would like to come back again and try the rest of menu. I would probably go on a weekday when it's not so busy.

Word of mouth can be a powerful thing. For me, when it comes to discovering new restaurants, this has proven to be my favoured way of first hearing about them.

The first three sentences I heard about Brasserie Zedel were straightforward, but seemed completely incompatible when placed next to each other.

1. Brasserie Zedel is in the heart of theatreland

2. The restaurant serves delicious French cuisine

3. A meal here is surprisingly affordable

The combination above proved too enticing to pass up.

Entering Brasserie Zedel, we walked through the cafe area and followed the signs towards the restaurant. As we did so, the posters on the walls, which advertised famous French theatre shows and musicals, held our attention. Soon after, we were led down into a lobby, which proved to be even more distracting, what with its giant chandelier and hand-painted ceiling depicting scenes from both Paris and London. Talk about making a memorable first impression!

Brasserie Zedel is set within what can only described as a massive hall. It was brightly lit and, at the time of our visit, decked out in festive wreaths. With the piano playing in a corner, it's not a stretch to say that we felt like we were in a large brasserie somewhere in Paris.

My dinner partner, Chris, decided to go for Brasserie Zedel's Prix Fixe menu, which consists of two or three courses (£8.95 for two, £11.75 for three courses). I chose two items off the a la carte menu.

Our starters plated, Chris got carottes rapees, a traditional French salad consisting of grated carrots, parsley and a Dijon mustard dressing. The salad was light and refreshing.

But, since it was winter, I couldn't help feeling biased towards my own starter: a hearty, indulgent French onion soup. It was, honestly, one of the best versions of this classic dish that I've ever had.

Our mains followed not too long after.

Chris had the steak hache (chopped steak) served in a peppercorn sauce with a side of frites. This was a tasty, filling main, and the sauce was particularly flavourful.

For my own main, I had been very excited when I saw that a typically Alsatian dish was on the menu. The choucroute arrived on its own little stand. A dish of sauerkraut topped with various kinds of smoked and cooked meat, I felt like I had been transported straight back to Strasbourg.

Our stomachs full, we sat back and enjoyed the music coming from the piano. The best thing about Brasserie Zedel - apart from its authentic French cuisine - is that while the setting may feel sophisticated, it's also a completely relaxed environment. We didn't feel like we were being rushed out at any given point, even though the restaurant was very busy on the day of our visit.

In terms of meeting my initial expectations, Brasserie Zedel surpassed them. The next time someone starts telling you that there's a good, affordable French restaurant in the heart of the city's theatreland, you can save the quizzical look; I can guarantee that they'll be referring to this exact restaurant.

I have no idea how I never spotted this place until the other day, because the surface area of the toilets alone spans pretty much the entirety of Zone 1. Anyway, a restaurant is always off to a good start when presenting me with a bread basket and yummy French salted butter, and at lunch time on a Saturday. The bread itself was a little hard, and I think 2/4 of our party actually sliced their palate eating it (explicit much?!), but the gesture was still appreciated.

Other than my hungover veggie friend who impulsively opted for the cheese plate, we all went for for the set menu consisting of a course of grated carrots followed by steak (albeit haché) and chips,  which was a real bargain for £8.95. I don't think I can describe how incredible those carrots were as well - my friend even quoted 'I've never tasted carrots which such a complexity of flavours.' The vibe of the restaurant itself feels a little touristy - but hey it's Piccadilly, so what do you expect!

I've only visited this establishment 3 times but it's firmly becoming one of my favourite places to dine in London.

The food is solid French classics done without fuss or embellishment. But that doesn't mean to say its mediocre - The mackerel salad starter and the beef bourguignon taste rich and feel classy, without the sky high prices.

But forget the food (odd thing to say I know) for it's the ambiance and service where Zedel really shines. As you descend down the staircase and into the room it really does feel like you're walking onto a movie set. Plush velvet and finely polished brass shake hands with gold leaf and marbled walls. Sound kitsch? Well maybe a bit, bit who doesn't want to feel like a film start occasionally?

Pricing is very reasonable for the Piccadilly location and the service has always been impeccable. Put simply, if you want to treat someone special without breaking the bank, you'd be hard pushed to take them to a better place than this. Highly recommended.

Zedel was a friend's suggestion for an evening with a group of friends from work.

Its front doors are a portal or the doors of a time travelling machine that takes the customer to the golden era, from movies like The Aviator and The Great Gatsby...

An amazing atmosphere, an historic and elegant place.

All night I had that feeling that Leo DiCaprio was somewhere around a table, drinking with a "femme fatale" and talking about how empires rise and fall.

The food is the least interesting thing in the place. It is quickly served and with good presentation...it lacks that flavoured punch you expcted since you enter the place.

On the other hand, I loved the live music, loved the bar, and loved the time spent there!

Brasserie Zedel is underground and so feels like a well-kept London secret. I came here with a friend for an early dinner before a West-End show and was instantly wowed by the brassy, traditional Parisian decor and the sheer size of the place.

What seems like a hundred waiters mill about making you feel both welcome and well cared for. Unfortunately, we only had time for one course but I would have liked to indulge in the two or three course prix-fixe (£8.95 and £11.75 respectively), remarkably pocket friendly when you consider the setting and location.

I ordered the Boeuf Bourguignon (when in Rome and all that), and my only gripe is that my plate was too small! But perhaps that's why the prices are so diminutive.

We also shared a well-bodied red wine that accompanied both our dishes spectacularly. I will most definitely be returning here!

A grand, French-brasserie located in a stunning, Art Deco room, Brasserie Zedel is the perfect place for a pre-theatre meal if you're going out in the West End. It's no surprise that the restaurant is owned by the same group as that of The Delaunay and The Wolseley - service is exceptional and the atmosphere is lively.

Descending into the restaurant, you feel as though you're entering into an actual theatre, with ticket boxes substituting entrances and deep red velvet curtains at every turn.

The food is typical French brasserie fare: my dining companions ordered steak onglets and I opted for ratatouille with mackerel, which came well seasoned and in a perfect portion size (any more and I wouldn't have been able to finish it!).

Upstairs, there's Bar Americain, which is a terrific place to grab a cocktail after the theatre - plus, there's live music in the brasserie every night.

A really fun place to take your friends.

We went to Zedel's for my birthday. I didn't know what to expect as it was my friend's idea. As soon as we got in we felt like we are in a different era. The whole atmosphere takes you back to 20's. You can notice the Art Deco interior with lavish ornamentation. Very high ceilings with marble pillars and mirrors with gold on the edge which makes the place charming.

The food was spectacular. We have tried many dishes from fish to steak and duck and everything was cooked to perfection. The side dishes were pretty big portions and the dessert delightful.
The service impeccable and very quick considering how big is the place.
There's a live jazz band which starts at 10 pm which makes the entire atmosphere to be perfect.
It's a complete show and I highly recommend this place.

It’s the worst best-kept secret treasure in London. Literally everyone seems to have been recommended Brasserie Zedel by their mate / colleague / Zumba instructor since it opened about 2 years ago, and it’s not difficult to see why.

The dining room is a proper grandiose sight. High ceilings, marble pillars and Art Deco lighting all ooze decadence – and the best bit is your credit card is unlikely to be violated for the experience.

A first round of cocktails in, we dove straight into some old school Frenchie starters. Apart from a fairly average onion soup, everything we tried was absolutely spot on.

My snails literally radiated garlic into my pores, I could still smell the buttery sauce on my fingers a week later. I loved them. Steak tartare was beautifully tender, full of texture and with the right level of bite from the mustardy meat.

They upped their game big time for the mains. A bit like a deconstructed fish pie, the seafood choucroute (sauerkraut and potatoes) gifted generous chunks of salmon, haddock and mussels in a lavish parsley sauce.

Poulet au champagne paired tender chicken and bacon with flat noodles and a creamy champagne sauce. V actually ate the chicken off the bone, an occasion as rare as a meteor shower, which I feel is as good a sign as any of quality. A red-wine doused beef bourgignon was highly rated by both VC and E.

The Zedel decadence quickly rubs off on you. Without really realising I seemed to have ordered a creme brûlée, VC had a champagne sorbet in front of him, and we each had another cocktail in our hands.

Brasserie Zedel is a remarkable find. It’s like Gatsby on a budget. It must be the high turnover that keeps the prices down (it’s a mahoosive place and constantly rammed) but even so this is barganious and still great food. Save this for when you want to impress and don’t fancy selling a kidney to resource it.

Among the outrageous atmosphere Piccadilly circus, Brasserie Zedel is one of the restaurants there that can provide you with totally different environment. The stylish decorations and French cuisine make you feel you are more in Paris than in London.

The food is fantastic but my favourite dish would be the coctail prawns seeing more as a starter.

The service is at a very high level and the rough amount of money two people would pay with drinks varies between £50 and £60. The environment of the restaurant itself is also accompanied by different musical performances which I once had the chance to hear them and it was an amazing experience.

I strongly recommend the restaurant!

We went to Brasserie Zedel with a couple of friends for Sunday lunch. The restaurant space is a real surprise - its massive, and decadent - although my bf said it reminded him of a (nice) hotel breakfast room!
So here's the thing - the food was actually great, and it ended up being good value, but the service let it down. I asked for a latte and was looked at with such disdain by the uptight, waistcoat wearing waiters and told they only serve french coffee. Come on! Its a latte, not a frappuccino. Hmph. Anyway, a couple of us went for the 2 course prix fixe, which is one choice per course and in this case was steak hache with fries and peppercorn sauce, which was very pink as requested and very tasty then a pretty decent fruit tart. Both were good sized portions and for the £9 set menu price excellent value. My bf's roast chicken was delicious also. The service continued to be snooty and erratic, and when presented with the bill we realised they tried to charge us full prices for the courses rather than the prix fixe menu. When questioned, they corrected it immediately but its just a shame the service doesn't match the standards of the food.

Brasserie Zedel is an amazing restaurant that sort of transports you back to the 20s. You are taken to the level below and it's like you stepped into another era. High ceilings, marble finishes and so exquisite. You know you've stepped into a fancy restaurant when you enter. The waitresses were patient with us and knew the menu well enough to make suggestions and tell us which would be the better dish. I opted for the salmon which was fairly large, it came on a bed of potatoes and green beans. The skin of the salmon, incidentally, is what made this dish (usually not a fan). They cooked it very well. I had creme brûlée for dessert which was a large portion and couldn't finish. It was alright. If you want a French experience in London, this is the place to go.

It was an awful rainy day in London (isn't every day?). We walked through a park from Buckingham Palace to the tube station where we caught a train to Brasserie Zedel. We were like drowned rats when we walked through the door.

Imagine my surprise as we were ushered away from the small pub setting down a corridor & a set of stairs. We found our way into a giant lobby with a gorgeous chandelier. We walked through big brown doors into the one of the most gorgeous restaurants I have ever seen. The walls were covered in glorious pink marble and gold finishes with old creaky wooden floors. It was as if we had been transported into a 50s French bar.

I ordered the Salmon which arrived on a bed of green beans and boiled potatoes. Usually I am not a fan of boiled potatoes but these were perfectly cooked. The salmon was grilled but I would have preferred it to be closer to rare than medium.

For dessert I had a delicious creme bruleau. A friend had a meringue centre which is much like a marshmallow covered in custard. It looked incredible & delicious. This was a gorgeous restaurant - I didn't want to leave.

There are three simple tests Brasserie Zedel passes with flying colours: Food quality, atmosphere and value.
From the magnificence of the dining hall hidden deep below Sherwood Street, just a stone's throw from Piccadilly Circus, to the simple but well-conceived French menu this restaurant ticks a lot of boxes.
It also represents immense value for money for the type of restaurant it is.
Created by Chris Corbin and Jeremy King it has the atmosphere of a grand Parisian brasserie in the heart of the capital, bustling with 240 diners arranged across banquettes and small tables.
From the unprepossessing street level cafe, you wend your way down quiet stairways and halls before emerging into the high-ceilinged ballroom with its sconces and columns and buzz of conversation.
The incredible marble, brass and gold leaf interior and Art Deco Bar Americain and foyer are in themselves eye-poppingly impressive. It is an experience in itself and the kind of place you want to bring people to see something different.
Service is perfunctorily efficient. Coats are taken and exchanged for tokens. And complimentary newspapers are provided for those awaiting guests.
if you don't make a reservation, they have walk-in tables set aside, which if not available staff will seat you in the cocktail bar until a table comes up.
The menu is in French, but an English version is at hand if you ask.
Soup du jour costs just £2.25 and the mains, including beef bourguignon, choucroute and duck confit, range from £8.75 to about £17.
The fixed price menu of two or three courses at £8.95 & £11.75 is unbeatable value.
A friend and I tried this out ourselves, prepping it with a couple of tall glasses of Meteor continental lager.
The starter of carottes rapees, the usually mundane everyman French dish, was fresh, crunchy and invigorating. Finely grated raw carrot, seasoned with parsley, olive oil and lemon juice, it came artfully presented in a thick fish-shaped hump, criss-crossed with ribs of oil. With just the right combination of citrus and a touch of sugar it tantalised the palate and pleaded to be finished.
The main course of Steak Hache, another common French dish that doesn't see a lot of action in the UK, was juicy and flavoursome from a rich marbled fat in the shaped minced meat. Cooked medium rare it was served (deluged) in pepper sauce and came with a tin cup of crisp, thin frites.
The food was served on plain white plates, branded with the restaurant's name and supplemented with coral coloured napkins.
The final course of Cafe Gourmande, a plunger of coffee with mignardises (two quite dull madeleines and a small layered chocolate and cream glace) was an adequate end to the meal.
Overall the food was surprisingly satisfying and tasty.
With such a high turnover of dishes the staff swoop at your elbows to clear every finished plate and discarded implement. At times they seemed overly efficient, but it never felt like they were doing it to encourage us to finish. We were left to chat lazily over coffee and there was no rush to present us with the bill - which came to just £33.
Really bloody good!

One of my top 5 restaurants in London.

Situated only minutes away from the ultra busy Piccadilly, lies this underground food heaven. Its huge and grand. You get in and leave your coats/bags at the cloakroom and then if there are no seats available(which is the likely scenario), you will be directed to the bar where the friendly staff will hand you the menus and pour you your drink while you wait. I have to say all the beers are quite amazing.

I was so impressed with the place that I could not believe the prices on the menu! For what you see you expect to pay Claridges money but nope! The menu is surprisingly affordable. Despite the huge number of customers, the service is exceptional. My least favourite part of my dinner was my main which was a beef bourguignon and I have to say, I still loved it!

The coffee is so good that I had to ask what brand of coffee they use. Do not miss it.

Long story short, do try this amazing restaurant, I would be surprised if you don't like it.

PS: They do both French and English menus so if like me you no zero French, do ask for the English version and make the whole process of choosing your dishes a lot easier!

In a side street just off the hustle and bustle of central tourist haven Picadilly, the Uk's equivalent of Times Square lit up at night with advertising hoardings, lies a subterranean space unlike any you are likely to find in London. The place is grandeur of the highest level, bordering towards the obscene. The amount of marble and lighting is on an epic scale. The dining room, with over 250 seats is more the size of a small field, and is packed out, even the grand piano looks diminutive at the side of the room. Despite it's size it's not that easy to get a walk-in, booking is recommended. For those of you unappreciative of the latest 'no reservation' trend, this is what you've been looking for. The cuisine is classical French, and while not in vogue, this place should be around for much longer than most, unless the upkeep of all the marble and brass puts them into liquidation.
With the menu all in French, you try your best GCSE reading level to work out what is what, before one of you plucks up the courage to play ignorant and get the English version. It's more than an extensive menu with anything from soup du jour, at a meager £2.25, to cuisses de grenouille for starters. I plumped with the frog's legs, always keen to try something different. Avoiding the 'taste like chicken' cliche, these were succulent and well cooked, the veal jus was magnificently rich. The creamy watercress sauce balanced the dish nicely.
It's worth noting the great service of this place, despite it's scale.
While Brasserie Zedel isn't really pushing any culinary boundaries, it doesn't have to, it's bringing good food at affordable prices into the heart of London. The formuale menu with 3 courses, glass of wine and coffee is testament to this. Often you do get what you pay for, and despite a bad main I would go back, maybe for the confit du canard. I've already recommended it to a fair few people, it's great for out of towners who gasp at the usual restaurant prices.

Proper fast food. Came here an hour before a theatre showing and had our food served to us literally 1-2 minutes after selecting from the menu. Classic French items, which don't have the biggest appeal for me, but they tasted very good nonetheless. We paid up 25 minutes after arriving (15% service included in the bill). The atmosphere is a real basement buzz, a combination of chatter and the jazz singers bouncing off all six walls. You start to forget you're literally by/beneath Piccadilly Circus.

This place was my family's first Michelin restaurant in London, we had great meals and desserts, the price is worthy, the location is cool, there are a pub, a theater in the same building. I went for food with two colleagues after work and they picked this place. It was a complete surprise to go down the stairs and find the quirky French restaurant there. We were a walk in and would have had to wait an hour for a table but we were offered and seated immediately at the bar. The menu is a bit different and you can order to suit a budget, there are prix fixe and other set menu options. We ordered a mix off both set and a La carte, starters, mains and one dessert. There was plenty of supply of fresh bread and butter also. We had a bottle of wine and one extra drink on top each and it came to £45 each for the 3 of us including service charge (of 15%). Not bad for this part of London and the food was pretty good. There was live entertainment on the stage throughout and a bustling atmosphere. Staff were great.

The food is delicious, the staff are attentive and polite, and the atmosphere combined with the decor and the mood has 'that one scene in The Shining where Jack walks into the ballroom & there's a lively happy party in full swing' vibes 😅🍸🥂

I ordered 3 courses. The salad is as good as the meat and the dessert .The price is honest. There is a bit of noise sometimes because the restaurant is too big. It seems that you are in a big hotel or ship.
