Last week I visited Victory Mansion in Stoke Newington. In all honesty it’s the first time I ever visited the area but its very up and coming. We went there for an evening of cocktail and food tasting. What I love about this place is that it’s co-owned by 6 friends who completely renovated and built up the place themselves from scratch, using their own recourses and skills to build it up to the cosy place it is! The place is really intimate with a cool, chilled out vibe.
Named after the protagonist’s home in Orwell’s 1984 (check out the CCTV spotlights on the bar’s exterior signage) and co-run by six mates (including two awarding-winning mixologists: Stuart Binks and Benji Purslow) who refurbed the venue by tapping into their own reserves of savings and elbow grease, Victory Mansion is a neighbourhood bar in Stoke Newington.
I love going out for dinner or cocktails. In a city as big as London we are utterly spoiled with the sheer number of places available for meals and drinks. Whatever your desire, whatever you budget, the city will have something for you. As I enjoy writing about food and cocktails, both as a consumer and as a creator, I'm lucky enough to get invited along to events where I get to try different places.
There’s an area smack bang in between Stoke Newington’s Church Street and Dalston Junction that just got that little bit better. Victory Mansion recently opened and has been building a loyal following from local residents since swimming the doors open. A little something for everyone – it’s a cafe, a cocktail bar, has a genius chef in the kitchen and hosting a bunch of monthly pop ups that may not be on your radar but probably should.
I had the joy of dining here with a fabulous bunch of girls for brunch on Sunday.
The menu heavily features the number one health fruit, avocado. Their brunch menu is foucused on healthier choices meaning that if you're looking for pancakes or eggs Benedict this is not the place for you.
As I'm not a fan of avocado I had the pumkin friiters - flavoursome with a hint of spice.
However, for £15 you can take advantage of their unlimited cocktail deal which runs from 1pm - 3pm. Totally delicious and refreshing with a choice of 4 to choose from.
Overall a fab experience and very tasty.
This is a very interesting Mexican-Asian fusion. The tortillas are fresh made - very important for Mexican cuisine. The fillings are more Asia flavored, but Mexican choice of food combinations. The result is a very good meal even though it is not traditional Asian nor Mexican flavors.
We stumbled across this place when walking around Stoke Newington. What an amazing find! Great selection of tacos, cocktails and sides (all reasonably priced). Most of the menu is gluten free too. Staff were very knowledgable about food allergies.
I’ve been coming here for the past few months and I absolutely LOVE it. Great tacos, great cocktails, a varied menu, great service. On Saturdays they do some pretty good deals. Everyone should know about it.
Find it very hard to eat out as I'm coeliac, especially at places as yummy as this. Pretty much the entire menu is gluten-free. They use gf soy sauce and were so friendly and helpful when I was asking questions. The fish and pork tacos were so tasty and the MSG potatoes were insane. The cocktails were delicious too.
The food was delicious! It was a great atmosphere staff was lovely. We we’re a bit cautious about the fusion but we’re pleasantly surprised! Flavors are intentional and layered. Will definitely come back!
I’m totally fussy. Nothing is ever good enough. This was both incredibly delicious with amazing fusion concepts and also really good value. £25 per person including a cocktail. I literally could not ask for better food in this price range!
Went for a catch up with old colleagues. Got a lovely table by the door which was nice. Staff were very attentive. My Ale was delish and so were my lil tacos. Packs a punch with flavour.
Great local cocktail bar. Friendly staff who really know their cocktails - they're super quick and good value at £10. It's also open late. Love this place.
Based on Stoke Newington High Street, Victory Mansion serves AMAZING Asian Ta-kos and fantastic cocktails.
With only around 30 covers and seating at the bar, Victory Mansion is like a local neighbourhood bar with good service and delicious food which is perfect for accompanying drinks!
Victory Mansion serves 8 different Asian inspired tacos served on 12cm soft tortillas with Asian leaves. The chef has clearly spent some time in Asia – the tacos are bursting with flavour and are absolutely up there with the best tacos I have ever had!
We opted for the Palm Sugar Glazed Beef short rib, Pickled watermelon and blackberry sriracha which were pretty spicy but absolutely pretty spot on! We also had Fermented yellow bean leeks, halloumi, sweet potato, mustard relish (although I couldn’t really taste the halloumi) and Crispy cauiflower, black beans and tamarind ragu, avocado pepper mayo (amazing flavours).
Now trust me when I say you HAVE to order the ‘MSG’ fries – Nori fried potatoes, kampot pepper mayo, salt and vinegar powder. These were really quite something else – they tasted like fish and chip shop chips but even better and were so mourish. There are also Asian slaw, shredded beets and chilli corn for sides. All of these dishes are priced between £3 and £4 which is so reasonable given how good the food is – we had 6 tacos and the MSG fries between us which was plenty.
There were plenty of cocktails on the menu at Victory Mansion that I could have picked. The menu is split into chapters – from Hero Hi-Balls to Sparkling Ladies. We had a Winston Smith – a rum based cocktail with amaretto, green tea, pineapple lime and angostura bitters served in a large tiki glass and the Holly Golightly with rose and elderflower infused Hendricks gin, lemon, elderflower and bubbly, which were both fresh and light.
Victory Mansion is a lovely bar to visit with great cocktails and friendly staff and they have really upped their game with the addition of the Asian Ta-kos so definitely save room for these!
Top notch service, atmosphere, cocktails and Asian fusion tacos. This place has a wide range of tacos and cocktails that will satisfy every one (vegetarians included). Staff is attentive and knowledgeable. Would highly recommend this spot.
