For me, afternoon tea isn’t just about eating and drinking. It’s an entire sensory experience, in which I get to relax and socialize with my friends while enjoying seasonal delicacies and the finest choices in British tea. Thanks to the magnificent collaboration of Executive Chef Ashley Wells and Edward Bodenham of Floris London, the Scents of Summer Afternoon Tea at the InterContinental Park Lane was exactly what afternoon tea should be.

Since I love to smell everything before I taste it, I have to admit the combination of distinct flavors infused with natural, herbal scents excited me. I was surprised at how much care was put into how the courses of the Scents of Summer Afternoon Tea were served.

We were served a selection of small sandwiches, starting with smoked salmon and bergamot cream cheese in a lemon bread, which was hearty but subtle in flavor, and ending with a strong honey-roasted pumpkin on spinach bread, crumbled with rich and creamy feta cheese. This one was my favorite.

After the savory dishes, the sweet scents of summer wafted through, in the form of deliciously decadent desserts. I loved the light flavor of the Jasmine tea cake, and thought it paired nicely with a warm cup of tea. One of my friends was partial to the grapefruit tart and violet cream, as she said the citrus flavor balanced the floral exceptionally.

The tea service was delightful, and this is more than just tea and cookies. This truly is a journey, both culinary and fragrant. Between each course, we were served a form of palate cleanser, which made enjoying the next flavor even more intense. The atmosphere of the Wellington Lounge makes the whole experience regal and relaxing. The British summertime speaks volumes to your senses I can only imagine how amazing their Chocolate Afternoon Tea must be!

The hotel itself is stunning on the inside, and the floral displays were incredible! Sadly I didn’t take any photos of this as I felt a little awkward snapping away whilst people were enjoying their holidays!

Well, the Afternoon Tea was beyond words! I have never been so full up in all my life!

We started with our first of many cups of tea… I think I drank 11 cups of 4 different types of tea!

Luigi, our incredible waiter, brought out out first course, yes this was just our first course! On top we had a Scents of summer inspired palate cleanser that included wheatgrass and pink peppercorns.

The sandwiches were too good…Smoked salmon and bergamot infused cream cheese scroll served on lemon bread, Rose pickled cucumber and mascarpone cheese served on Peruvian bread, Pink peppercorn on thyme chicken bound in mayonnaise and cucumber served on tomato bread and lastly Honey roast butternut squash with crumbled feta cheese served on spinach bread. Some of these were flavours I had never tried before and I was highly impressed!

We then had a second course of scones, and these weren’t your ordinary scones, these wereSultana and wholemeal scones with wild strawberry jam, devon clotted cream, Lemon and pink peppercorn curd and Earl Grey butter! Oddly enough I didn’t photograph these, but they do feature in the video I’m making of our day out!

We finished up with the largest desert platter I have ever seen! Penny has a nut allergy so they kindly made her a platter all to herself, and as Afternoon Tea goes, they never do one serving so we had enough between us for four people!

My platter consisted of:

Peach Melba mousse, Bergamot Macaroons, Violet cream and grapefruit tart, Jasmine Tea cake, The “Flower Pot” which was filled with Rose water and pink peppercorn jelly and wild strawberry mousse served in a chocolate “Terracotta” pot.

Even the pebbles were edible!

And of course they had to go and up the game again by bringing out the Pink Moët & Chandon Champagne!

I really can’t recommend this Afternoon Tea enough; the service was the best service I’ve ever had, the ideas and flavours were out of this world and the venue was beautiful. I mean it’s like they knew Penny and I are massive car fans letting us sit by the window to watch the incredible cars go by outside!

Thank you for an amazing experience.

It was hard to believe that a whole year has passed since my first visit to The Intercontinental London Park Lane to try the Scents of Summer afternoon tea, so it was a pleasure to return this year to try the Royal Tea. As the official hotel for the Patron's Lunch this year, they had teamed up with fellow event Partner Pimm's to create an Afternoon Tea that celebrated Her Majesty The Queen's 90th birthday and a lifetime dedicated to service.

There’s no dearth of tempting options for afternoon tea, when it comes to celebrating this favourite of British pastimes. But if you asked me right now, at this very moment, to pick just the one… my spontaneous response would be Scents of Summers at the InterContinental Park Lane. It’s a scintillating affair which vividly captures the beauty of a British summer….

Lovely place for afternoon tea, sandwiches were okay, cakes (the queens favourites) tasted better than they looked and scones were very nice. Loved their Lapsang tea.

This review of the Intercontinental’s limited run Christmas Unwrapped afternoon tea isn’t the first (and hopefully won’t be the last) opportunity for me to rave a little about one of London’s more elegant spaces and for you to add a bit of pampered Christmas cheer to your next outing in town.

October is all about chocolate week in London (and cocktails in case you didn’t know!). Wellington Lounge at Intercontinental Park Lane brought back their chocolate themed afternoon tea this month and I was really excited to give it a go. As much as I love chocolate, I was afraid there may be a chocolate overload but to my surprise it was balanced out very well and turned out to be one of the nicest afternoon teas I’ve had.

Our party of four decided to celebrate a birthday at the Wellington Lounge in the Intercontinental Hotel, having scrawled through the web for the “right” place to enjoy a luxurious but not bank breaking afternoon tea. It wasn’t our first choice but nonetheless it hit the right spots.

Went here for the festive afternoon tea and had such a great time. I loved the decor, it was very elegant and the Wellington has an overall pleasant atmosphere. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating and explained everything well. You can choose between more than 20 different teas and have as many refills as you want. Furthermore, you can also have as many of the savoury snacks as you want. I personally enjoyed the food a lot and would definitely recommend the tea to any tea lover. It is good value for its money, we actually didn’t manage to finish the scones and cakes in the end because we were so full so we were offered boxes to take them home with us. We will definitely come again!

An Ode to Cornwall afternoon tea was a truly tasty treat in tranquil surroundings with the piano playing peacefully in the background. It was nice to have the thought and feeling produced within the meal with such detail in the desserts. A truly tantalising taste experience which looked divine. The ‘meal’ was a masterpiece a true work of art x

Great place for a spot of tea! Afternoon tea is decadent, well presented, and overall amazing. On request, you can get a second order of your favorite bites. Staff are always on hand to help and service is prompt, but not rushed in any way. The lounge itself is on the main floor, so there are no views and you can hear the hustle and bustle of the lobby. However, it's a refined, and luxurious space. Definitely one of the top spots for tea. Equally as good as Fortnum & Mason

Absolute amazing afternoon tea experience. From the moment you arrive, a very friendly hostess explains how they will be serving you, provides you a menu of the 20+ teas you can choose from with unlimited refills and changes, plus list of food included. You may request additional snacks for free, but frankly, after so much food, it is hard to find space for more. Each plate was incredibly decorated, nothing comes without o touch of color and style, so you will have a guilty feeling of destroying a masterpiece with every bite. If the options are overwhelming, the hostess provided recommendation as to which tea pairs better with each food. Allow a couple of hours or more to enjoy the experience. Certainly it will be one of our best highlights of our London trip.

Came here for dinner and drinks to meet a friend. For a 5 star hotel I was expecting better service. We were initially sat at a table by a member of staff and then told we had to move as this was reserved. We were then sat at another table which wasn’t laid with cutlery napkins etc and we had to ask for this after waiting some time. Food and drinks then took a while to come after being ordered and it was not busy. We still had a lovely time but the service didn’t meet expectations.

Not the best afternoon tea ever, the High Coffee menu was however original of which Open Sandwiches paired with Espresso Martini as well as Warm Savories were scrumptious while the sweet part was rather ordinary. Together with live piano and good service the experience was no doubt delightful.

Really lovely festive afternoon tea experience. Food was delicious although the presentation was a little bland. The scones were the best I've ever had and the addition of lemon curd along side the jam and clotted cream was a nice surprise. Service was very friendly and they allowed us plenty of time to eat/chat however it was tricky to get their attention when we wanted to order coffee/get the bill. The afternoon tea was excellent value for money and I would visit again.

My cousin and I treated my mother and Aunty to some luxury in this beautiful setting. I paid for a champagne afternoon tea and we hot treated like goddess’s. I highly recommend. All parties throughly enjoyed themselves. There were 3 courses. Hundreds of different teas to try, delectable sandwich choices, sweet treat cakes and incredible scones. The staff were absolutely amazing!! Definitely worth every penny!!!
