Awesome Chinese place to have the most delicious authentic delicacies at the best quality and prices with the help of a really nice and friendly staff as well..
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR FOOD LOVERS..
high quality and fine Chinese food in Phoenix Palace.
The food is wonderful and comprises high end fresh ingredients and cooking.
(Must try)assorted dumplings all very nice. Friendly staff ..
Would definitely visit again
It’s been such a while since my last yum cha experience, so I looked towards our reservation at Phoenix Palace in Marylebone with much delight. A restaurant that resembles the generic setting of a typical kung fu movie, but it leaves a last impacting in terms of the food. Service leaves a bit to be to desired, but as far as yum cha, goes Phoenix Palace does pack a punch.
This is out favorite chinese restaurant in the WORLD!!!!! Our favorite dishes are: sesame prawn toast, deep fried oysters, wasabi shrimps, and of course hot and sour soup, vegatable fried rice ( smokey and taste superb ), and finally our favorite is deep fried full seabass fish with garlic and herbs spicy sauce!!! Dont forget to order the green tea on the side to restore your taste buds every bite!
Great Food, Great Service, Big Menu
It has been a long time since i have been here and glad to say the food and service is second to none.
They have had a refurb since the time i visited but it has been done well.
I do believe they might now have a private dining area so do ask if this is something you would be interested in.
From the entrance lobby you will see a board of all the celebrities that have visited.
This time i ordered the following:
1. Chicken in Black Bean on Crispy noodle
2. Lime Freeze Mocktail to drink
Mocktail was like a lemon and lime sorbet and was great, it lasted the whole meal as it melts slowly and very re-freshing. They have a few mocktails but glad we went for this one.
Food arrived promptly and hot and Pheonix Palace is where you get food the way you think it will taste and does not disappoint. There is no twist or infusion just what you order is what you get and nothing wrong with that.
Pleasant surrounding and lighting is good.
The ambient sound can be a little loud but you can still hear when in conversation but you have to pay a little attention....
I would be happy to re-visit and walking distance from Baker Street station so very easy to get to.
I found we had great service but we did go on Wednesday at 6.30pm so it was only starting to get busy so maybe the best time to go.
Menu is vast with great selection for all including dim sum and vegi options.
Great place to enjoy extensive Chinese cuisine especially dim-sums. On Sundays, they do special dim-sums. Peking duck with Rice Rolls and plum Sauce lives up to its expectations. Schezuan squid was very delicious.
It was tough to get seating on Sunday but patience paid off. As place is generally heaving, reservations are recommended.
Visited March 2013
Very nice decor and authentic atmosphere, lively and yet not too loud. Our food was on the better end of medium quality - I found some of the dishes a little heavy due to thick sauce. But the flavours were were interesting enough to get me curious about other dishes - menu is extensive and I will definitely go back to try more. My dishes matched nicely with Torrontes Riesling. Good value for money.
"Great for a family meal, good service and great food!”
Great family atmosphere. Staff was very helpful and attentive. Always enjoy the quality and taste of their food.
I have to say I was quite disappointed by the crispy Wasabi Prawns we ordered this time. The wasabi sauce lacked the pungent kick you get when you eat natural wasabi sauce and definitely tasted like a cheap quality wasabi flavoring added to mayonnaise!
Phoenix palace serves delicious dim sum at a little above average prices. What i had was really well cooked, with perfect cheung fun and tasty accompanying sauces, big juicy pork buns and the second best rice and chicken pot I've tasted. However the service charge doesn't represent the service which is lacking in any charm and customer attention. This needs work!
Me and my husband really like this place. One of our regulars for Chinese food. We usually order wasabi prawns for starters - one of the best we've ever had. Our other regular dishes are peking duck and laoganma chicken. Their portions are big enough for sharing. Set in a typical Chinese setting this restaurant is quite big. This place is often visited by famous movie stars, politicians and other celebrities. On one of the walls in the restaurant you'll see pictures of 'who's who', who have dined here. My husband also happened to meet Sachin Tendulkar (famous indian cricketer) once here.
Dim sunday. Very good option for rapidly arranged dim sum on the weekend; place was busy but the refit (was a bit tatty years ago) is good and the place is big
Eel for the brave and those dough things for the rest
Pleasant chinese. Surpringly big venue considering entrance.
Spacious & pleasant.
Good food - tho went in evening so no dim-sum.
Would go again. Good for groups.
While in the city one night, a nearby check on Urbanspoon for vegan friendly restaurants led us to a busy Chinese eatery, Phoenix Palace. We were thrilled to see a vegan banquet on the menu and it didn’t disappoint. Great food and reasonably priced.
Some items at Phoenix Palace were more successful than others, such as the har gau, and the overall quality was good. It's a good option for a dim sum lunch on the weekend, though beware of queuing times.
For some of us this was the first time Dim Sum had been eaten like this. But what a place for them to loose your Dim Sum virginity. I hadn't really had eaten that much Dim Sum since we were in Hong Kong a couple of years ago. Too damn long if you ask me. Even with the Dim Sum being oh so fashionable recently with every blogger in London eating it on a regular basis, I didn't go for any. Well I am so fashionable late to the party. As always. As D posed a problem for restaurants in London, there are not too many Djibouti joints around that I could find. We were thinking Danish, but as two of us were in Denmark the week before, it seemed pointless to do it again for them. So Dim Sum came to mind, well it does begin with a D, ok ok I know it is a bit thin on the ground, but at least now we know this game has very flexible rules. The Dim Sum menu is pretty good at the Phoenix Palace. It has been a while since I've eaten Dim Sum and chosen it from a menu, the last few times in Hong Kong, it
Favourite dim sum restaurant ? Mine is Phoenix Palace (on Glentworth St just off Marylebone Rd near Baker St tube). Its charms aren't immediately obvious from the slightly gaudy exterior and identikit Chinese restaurant interior design. However when it's
Dim sum is always great but it is better going with a group of friends for a weekend lunch! It means that you get to catch up with everyone and also share lots of different dishes! A variety of steamed, fried and oven baked dim sum was had, each having th
After Kang’s three consecutive blog posts on dim sum, I had severe cravings to get some myself and promptly arranged to get some the next available weekend. As Mr Noodles has been consistently singing the praises of Phoenix Palace, I figured it warrants a
I was fascinated with the archaic and ancient interior decor, I haven't seen this for a long time. I'm a big fan of noodles and my favourite is spicy Singapore noodles, I placed my order within a jiffy my meal was ready. Overall, I enjoyed my meal as it was well prepared, taste far better, excellent customer service and lovely decor. Would come again with friends.
As this was a family occasion dine out, everyone had a taste of a few things to share, but the portions are big enough to satisfy even my 6ft 6 frame. I rarely eat meat, but honestly, the Peking Duck is a must here. Great authentic atmosphere and a truly oriental experience.
Phoenix has been around for a while, but the great food keeps the restaurant continually busy. The interior is very traditional, as is the food. The Peking duck rolls are awesome, and my favourite part of the meal.
The restaurant has a nice family based atmosphere, and great for an occasional meal.
You should check out the pictures of Blair and (most of) the Labour party by the entrance - an exciting collage!
Overall a must visit when around Baker Street
This Chinese restaurant is authentically decorated; paper lanterns, carpeted floor with Chinese designs and mahogany furniture. Very traditional and ornate.
From the moment you enter, you're welcomed by the friendly staff who seat you in the large restaurant. Some starters I would suggest: shredded smoked chicken, asparagus with garlic, chilli and salt and sesame prawn toast. I also love the Peking duck and Schezuan prawns. The prawns are very well cooked and come with a tasty sauce.
For dessert I would go for the toffee banana; hard on the outside and break open to warm banana. Covered in a sweet glaze, goes great with vanilla ice cream.
The first restaurant I ever tried a "roo" a couple years back. The ambience was authentically oriental. Although I remember the meat being a little overpowered by the black pepper sauce, but perhaps that was not the best way to taste a kangaroo fillet.
It was a slight bit pricy but well worth it. Looking forward to checking it out when I'm in the area again, the Ostrich frontier is yet to be tasted for me. :)
I love this place. Visited this place first time 3 years back and I loved it. The food is amazing and so is the service. And their lobster with garlic and chili is worth dying for.
had the pleasure of joining some of my Chinese friends in celebrating the Chinese New Year at a restaurant close to Baker Street called Phoenix Palace. Our table was booked for 8.30pm but they had lion dancers booked to do a show there at 7.30pm and we were welcome to come and watch before our meal.
It was an experience and a half for me as I have never seen or heard of this before and I thoroughly enjoyed being a part of this community for this special event. Enter the dragons… or lions! The performers in the lion costumes were energetic and entertaining and the adults seemed even more excited than the kids! Personally if I was a young child watching this for the first time, I would be really scared. But the kids seemed to love it. I especially loved learning the custom where they reach up to grab the lettuce and the red money envelope to the beat of the drums and symbols. Then the tempo increases and they shred and throw pieces of lettuce out towards the crowd. Some people were trying to catch it, some even picked pieces off the ground and took it to their table – maybe for good luck! Everyone in the restaurant was excited and loving the atmosphere.
People were also ‘feeding’ the lions with red money envelopes themselves which I suppose they also believe will bring them luck in the coming year. I don’t know about you, but watching a little man/child walking around as Buddha in that mask was a little creepy – but he was a good sport and posed for photos with the diners.
Now onto the food! We had pre-ordered our food the week before to speed up the process, but due to how busy the restaurant was on the evening, there was a bit of a delay in us receiving it. But the food was tasty nevertheless. To start, I had yummy vegetable dumplings which tasted even better dipped in chilli sauce.
For my main I had delicious braised tofu with egg fried rice which is one of the best I’ve ever had. I was so full and content that I couldn’t even finish my meal off – now that’s a first!
Arguably the best place for dim sum in West London, and as a bonus, they take bookings! Perfect for avoiding the queues at Royal China without sacrificing any of the authenticity or flavour!
Phoenix Palace is THE quintessential Chinese restaurant, with red paper lanterns, ornate Chinese style décor, well carpeted and gilded. The service is brusque, but efficient. The food is standardly standard, but it fills that Chinese shaped hole in your belly! Sure, it might be a tad over-salted, and probably loaded up on the MSG, but damn, it’s hard to beat their crispy duck and pancakes, hot and sour soup, schezuan prawns, beef in black bean sauce. Standard, no frills, eat steadily and eat a lot. I believe they do a dimsum brunch on weekends as well, I haven’t tried it. Drinks menu is again, standard. Dessert has never been attempted! Get a mint at the end of your meal and check out the pictures of Blair (and a good section of Labour), visiting Phoenix Palace – it’s a mainstay of the Baker Street area. There’s nothing new here, but it’s comfort food for me!
I’ve only ever been here for dinner over the past 20+ years and quality of food has always been great. So came here for dim sum. Food was just as good. There’s a good selection of dim sum available and some new style ones like the steam rice rolls with crispy dough and prawns. Spare ribs were quite large compared to other restaurants. The beef crispy noodles and ho fun dish was nasty, with a good amount of beef. I wasn’t disappointed.
Excellent and authentic Cantonese cuisine in London! We ordered a mixture of classic dishes and they all exceeded our expectations. I recommend the hot and sour soup, the aromatic duck, yuk sung lettuce wraps, prawn cheung fun and the scallops with asparagus. The quality of the food is very good and there is a good variety of seafood on the menu.
If you looking for High grade food , always fresh and delicious, beautiful decor this is the place to go Phoenix Palace ! 4 meat rotisserie platter is absolutely delicious. Fresh Dim Sum Good for couples for romantic dinner. Absolutely recommended for families, kids love the food and love the big fish tank located in front of the restaurant. Overall love it ! Highly recommend the place !
This place is fantastic for authentic tasting Chinese food in the heart of Central London. As well as delicious food the place has a great and buzzing atmosphere, with great decor, and continues to host many famous faces! Will certainly be back!
Good dim sum place that’s made very fresh. Forgot to take photos but was impressed with most food. Though fried rice and noodles were a bit oily, pork bun wasn’t really for me and the mango pomelo sago was a bit too sweet for me, everything else were really good. It’s pricey but it’s not bad for the standard you get. A big plus is that you could book tables there
This is an amazing Chinese restaurant. The food is tasty, the service was very good with just the right amount of attentiveness shown, and no sense of rushing us to finish. We enjoyed the chicken with black bean sauce and the crispy beef with chili. We also had fried rice. The portions are good size and we did not leave hungry. We also had some tea and desert which I recommend to wind up a delicious meal. My wife enjoyed the lemon sorbet and I had the coconut pudding which is more like a coconut custard. Both were very good. We highly recommend this restaurant, and as you will see, it is very well decorated. This is our new go to Chinese restaurant when we are in London.
I have never been here before and I wasn't disappointed. Beautiful place and a lovely atmosphere. The service was good and we never felt pressure to hurry or to take our orders. We wanted to taste as many things as possible so we ordered a mixture of dim sum. We tried things we never had before which didn't always go in our favour but its good to taste new flavours and have new experiences. I loved the wasabi and prawn dumpling I was worried the wasabi would be really overpowering but it was just perfect! Also really enjoyed the calamari with chilli, garlic and peppercorn salt. And the crispy lobster dumpling was a first for me and I was not disappointed. The mini rib in black bean sauce was not for me unfortunately but it maybe popular with others. But definitely no short of options for everyone's taste! We washed it all down with a pot of jasmine tea. Overall we loved our experience here and definitely recommend!
Really an authentic Cantonese restaurant in London!!! Feel like I stay in HK LOL.
All dishes are delicious!
The crispy duck is crispy and flavourful recommend!
The Chinese broccoli is stirred well.
It is good for dining with family and reunions!
Highly recommended!
Went to this Chinese restaurant with a bunch of friends to celebrate pre Christmas holiday. Each seat was provided a special Christmas gift
Like the space and display of the restaurant cuz it genuinely regenerate the atmosphere of a traditional Chinese restaurant, and the most importantly, was attracted by its tidiness and the smell-free environment
Various options, reasonable price. All the dishes we had were well seasoned. The tastes were neither greasy or salty, meats such as prawn, chicken, beef (accompanied by other vegetables or mushrooms) were delicious.
A bit sad that they did not offer turnip cakes when we visited. Will definitely try it next time!
We had reservations for 3/14/23, I had the sweet and sour chicken. The food was very good and the waiters very attentive without being overbearing. The restaurant itself looks amazing! The only problem was that I got my meal about five minutes before my friend got his. We each ordered steamed rice with our meals and they brought one pot of rice with two servings of rice for both of us to share. Maybe this is normal service for them, but we were a bit confused. But I would still recommend this restaurant.
If you are looking for authentic Chinese food and you are in the Baker Street area, then this restaurant is a very good option. I recommend the lobster noodles and beef brisket hotpot which I always order but you can’t go wrong with most of the classic dishes on the menu. I know everything has gone up in London but £9 for a basket of dim sum is quite ridiculous, hence I’m taking one star away. But everything else is great, the service is friendly and attentive, and the quality of the food is high and authentic.
Their food was decent and the dining area was well decor. Compare to the last time I visited London 3 years ago (pre-pandemic), the only complaint I have is their dim sums are not in house made anymore. It’s like they got it from a with mass production factory somewhere else. But their in house production like the steam rice rolls / congee / fried rice etc are still very good.
My favourite restau in London for dim sum. And at a sensible price too. And a really picturesque place with decent service. After 5 pm and with the English menu, it turns into an okay Chinese restaurant, perhaps I was disappointed twice at this time because my expectations are so high. But I’m definitely coming back for lunchtime dim sum, and so should you.
Crispy calamari, pork spareribs with chill, l poached chicken with peanut, and spring roll appetizers were very good. Asparagus appetizer was good, but fried. Shrimp dumplings were very good. Chicken salad was not good.
For dinner, roast duck was good but needed seasoning. Special fried rice and garlic spinach were very good. Crispy pork belly and beef soft noodles were only ok.
I went last week with my grandmother all the staff were super friendly they even assist me to bring my grandmother through the entrance as she is on a wheelchair and it was quite difficult for me to push her.
The food was fantastic, everything were super clean, the toilets, the tables. wonderful atmosphere. I definitely recommend it and for sure I will be back.
Thank you .
Always buzzy and busy. We turned up without a reservation on a Sunday night and were seated at the front of the restaurant as there was a wedding in the main part. It seemed strange to be able to hear the speeches but it added to the atmosphere.
Food is always good and delicious and the service is above what you can get in some Chinese restaurants. Its expensive but it is London and of course prices have increased for all restaurants so it felt worth it.
