It was Mr R’s Birthday over the weekend and that can only mean one thing. Over the last 9 years I’ve had to find the best Chinese or Japanese restaurant in London and this year when I started researching, the idea of a “Chinese Sunday Roast" at Kyms sounded like a great plan.

I booked it thinking our good old friend the Thameslink would allow for an easy, step free journey making for Baby K. Fast forward to Sunday and being Easter, the Thameslink was only running to St Pancras so we had to find an alternative route.
When we arrived at the restaurant, we were greeted by the very friendly manager who was super accommodating of baby K and his needs and shifted us from a table in the restaurant to one tucked away in the bar area so the pram could sit by us.
She then went on to give us some great suggestions, even steered us away from certain dishes because the cut of meat being used wasn’t great, or because there was too much chilli oil for a nursing mama. Baby K certainly took to her and showed this by happily grabbing her finger and steering it towards his mouth!
When we asked who Kym was, she told us that Andrew Wong had named his first restaurant Kym's after his grandmother, years after opening it he decided to rename it A Wong and decided to stop his grandmother from turning in her grave, he would have to name his second restaurant Kym's!
For food we went for the Sunday roast and added the French Bean Fritters and the Char Sui Pork.
The first two items to arrive were the Rice Cracker / Seaweed / 1908 Ketchup (ve) & the Pickled Daikon / Crispy Chilli Oil / Soy (ve).

The rice cracker was moreish, speckled with black sesame seeds and topped with sweet and savoury seaweed. The ketchup added the right amount of additional flavour. The pickled daikon (white radish) has a lovely sweet flavour and a slight crunch. Both Mr R and I gobbled these dishes up!
Next to arrive was the Prawn Wonton soup.

The soup 🍜 itself had a lovely balanced flavour and the wontons were delicately flavoured and perfectly fresh!
The French Bean Fritters / Chilli / Spring Onion (ve) were next to arrive.

These were deliciously crispy albeit slightly greasy in places but that certainly didn’t stop is from devouring the full plate!
The Iberico Pork Char Sui / Honey Soy was certainly the show stopper dish of our meal!

It was perfectly soft and succulent, not at all fatty! The flavour was impeccable and it literally melted in your mouth!
The rest of the items from the Sunday Roast menu arrived together. The Cantonese Crispy Pork Belly / Honey Mustard can be spotted in the top corner and the Crispy Duck / Pancakes / Plum in the bottom corner.

Mr R was slightly sceptical about trying the pork belly dipped in the mustard but honestly, it worked a treat! The pork was perfectly soft and super crispy whilst the mustard added an extra layer of deliciousness! The duck when compared to some of the other dishes we’d eaten was fairly average.
The Sichuanese Spiced Aubergine was the last of our mains to arrive with the set menu.

Mr R commented that this was perhaps too saucy, but I pointed out that the other main dishes from the set menu were dry and therefore this provided the sauce. The actual dish was good, not outstanding or showstopping but I’d order it again if I went back.
Last up was the dessert. Pineapple Bun / Custard.
The bun is filled with custard and topped with pineapple with a crispy top. This looked far better than it tasted, despite this I certainly cleared my plate.
On the whole the service was amazing, the staff were super friendly and even gave us some gunpowder tea on the house as we were celebrating a birthday! The Char Sui was delicious and I’d go back for that alone!

Average taste, average quality, average service. However, the pineapple bun (dessert) was outstanding, hot custard and the pineapple mince came very well together. Don’t miss the pineapple bun if you visit as this may be the yummiest one across the menu.

Suunday lunch is very good value. Excellent roast meats, particularly enjoyed the yellow peaches (if i remember correctly) with the duck. Dessert bun is a bit forgettable but nice enough.

Delightful Asian restaurant in Bloomberg Arcade in the City. Really enjoyed the dishes, from the small plates to the meats. Everything is sharable, and a good portion size. My favourite was probably the grilled chicken with soy, and the taro roots! Can't wait till it's operating at full service, as it's quite hard to get reservations at the moment.

Really lovely new style Chinese. We ate a lot of the items on the menu here and left absolutely stuffed! The meal is served as courses, starters, duck (or other meat), the roast meats and sides and finally dessert. Everything here should be shared, you will get to try more of the wonderful menu this way. We thoroughly enjoyed everything and I'd more than recommend the soy chicken, aubergine and the duck pancakes!

Very lovely chinese inspired restaurant! It is beautifully decorated and has a relaxed vibe. We shared a combination of starters and main dishes. The waitress was really helpful when it came to explaining the dishes and determining the amount of dishes needed.

Much anticipated final opening at Bloomberg Arcade, Kym's is an ambitious push into the burgeoning foodie destination. Decked out in pink, the dining space reminded me of the likes of Sake no Hana and Neptune. The star of the open kitchen is undoubtedly the BBQ station and its rack of soy steamed chicken, char siu and roast pork belly. You can sample all three for £20, for which you'll get about half the portion size of the same at Gold Mine. The chicken was spot on, but the honey on the char siu overpowered the unique taste of the Iberico pork. Silken tofu with small pieces of century egg and Choi Sum were good but not going to set the pulses racing. The mushroom steamed buns are the rage in SE Asia so it's unsurprising that it's been transplanted here. So far, so predictable; but the flair that made A Wong so lauded finally made an appearance with the desserts. I won't spoil the surprising twist with the egg tart. Both this and the pineapple bun made for a pleasing end to a brisk lunch service - perfect for the local clientele.

Loved the new Kym's Chinese restaurant by Andrew Wong, a great addition to the Bloomberg Arcade. Went for the Sunday Roast menu starting with the delicious Rice Cracker with Seaweed & 1908 Ketchup. For mains we had the Iberico Pork Char Sui / Honey Soy & the Slow Poached Soy Chicken / Ginger Relish which were outstanding, tasty came with Family sides of Lemongrass Salad / Peanuts / Lettuce / Chilli / Lime, Uyghur Fries / Thai Shallot / Mango Powder, Pickled Daikon / Crispy Chilli Oil / Soy, Steamed Rice & Steamed Buns which were perfect for the Iberico Pork Char Sui. For sweets we had the Hong Kong Pineapple Bun with coconut ice cream, a great ending to a perfectly balanced meal. We loved the super friendly service where our waiter explained the different dishes and stories behind some of the food. One of our favorite Chinese meals we have had and look forward to trying out other dishes over the next few weeks.

Staff were friendly and helpful. Beer on tap was nice. We loved the pork ribs, ordered it twice. So was the mushroom bun starter The lamb "burger" and crispy duck to share were great. Was a bit disappointed with the three treasure, as only the iberico pork was great, the other two were nothing special.

Beautiful interior in a great location. Food is delicious, well presented and not overpriced. Sharer portion are a little small to be shared with more than two people and even with two, you might want to get additional items.

OMG!!! If your passing by this place it's a must if you like Chinese. Me and my girlfriend turned up with no reservation and they managed to seat us at the kitchen bar which was great talking to the chefs and seeing the prep of the delicious food. I have to give the food a solid 5 star it was all amazing as you can see from my pictures. The service was 5 star, friendly staff mostly new but they were polite and professional. Price was cheap for the presentation of the restaurant and the whole experience I ended up leaving a 25% tip. If you get a chance to sit at the kitchen bar I recommend it, I chatted to the guy with a ear tattoed on he's left tricep really nice chef. CONGRATULATIONS ON THIS AMAZING RESTAURANT!!!
