Lovely food, subtle but attentive service, reasonable prices.... loved it, would recommend & definitely go again 😊
Pleasantly surprised by the experience. I went for lunch with some friends. We enjoyed the atmosphere and delighted our taste buds with good French food. The service was appropriate and prompt.
Will repeat soon enough.
Merçi, Denise!
My wife and I are Tastecard users (I recommend shopping around for the best tastecard pricing before committing to it)
I wanted French food and we were in he area, so we used the Tastecard app to identify the restaurant. It seemed ok (when using Tastecard - otherwise pricey)
Initial inspection - slightly tired decor from 30 years ago, not a French person in sight, and 2/3 of the menu was dedicated to foods other than of French origin.
However I stuck to my guns, ordered the french onion soup - which came quickly.
A REVELATION - I was not prepared with how authentic and tasty it was - the slice of baguette in the middle was smothered with grilled cheese - frankly delicious.
My steak arrived cooked precisely as I had requested.
My entrecote was the second most tasty steak I have ever enjoyed.
The best steak I tasted was in Texas!
We had a sweet - a chocolate ganache topped with cream that made my wife swoon. Her main had been a French veal dish with mushroom sauce that had definitely not forgotten its roots.
So - let's recap
Dated appearance - yes, but fabulous pleasant (international) service and delightful food (not quite cordon bleu but definitely in the same postcode)
Value for money - with a tastecard - Fantastic food - I WILL come again!
Great French food served by really quality people. I had frog legs for starter and fillet steak for main course. Both plates for delicious. Will return very soon.
Long live Denise's. This place is an institution. Has been there for years serving an outdated British take on French food until 2am everyday. Long may it continue! Try it.

Thank you for your wonderful service and fantastic food. It’s no small achievement to receive 24 Icelandic women and feeding them and making them happy, you certainly did. And when we came back the second night, when you were just about to close, you welcomed us and fed us with warmth and smiles. Service was very warm and friendly and dear Fatos, you are a jewel. Our love 💕 and thanks. I highly recommend this restaurant ❤️❤️
Nice Italian restaurant in the heart of London. Once inside I did feel like being on Little Italy. We used a Groupon voucher. The food was really good but the service was a bit slow. We were willing to spend more money on drinks but when we tried to order them we were told it wasn't part of the Groupon deal even though we were aware of this and happy to pay extra for this.
We came here for a meal while visiting London and really enjoyed it. We sat outside with our little girl. The staff were very attentive, friendly and took time to chat to us. The pizza was amazing! Drinks were nice and cold, rosé wine was lovely! We sat down to eat at around 1830 and the road noise was quite loud but did settle down after a short time. I would definitely come back here for a meal. They do add a service charge onto the bill so just be aware as we almost left a tip at the table until we realised.
Was there the other day with my friend. We originally planned somewhere else but with too big a line we saw this cute restaurant. We sat outside and had the £19 deal. My pizza was fantastic and my friend’s pasta was delicious. The house wine was lovely and service was great. Would recommend
The restaurant itself was super cozy and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The staff was very friendly and attentive towards children which was a big plus for us. The food was delicious and the dinner deal made it very reasonably priced. Definitely wanna go there again!
This is the best Italian restaurant ever in all of London. The food was amazing and the service was fantastic. Very friendly people and they treat you like family.
Sophies is an absolute gem. Just off of Russell Square, it serves a good selection of Italian dishes. The service is really friendly and the food is incredible. A good selection of wines meant we could enjoy a lovely bottle of red.
We will definitely return.
This is a regular dinner venue for me when I'm in London. Set menu of pizza or pasta + salad + wine for £19.95 is reasonable value for this part of London. I've always enjoyed every meal I've had here, whether it's pasta or pizza. Staff are always polite and friendly but you might sometimes need to be proactive about attracting their attention when you're ready for another course or the bill. I highly recommend
Quiet little Bistro style dining, attentive and friendly staff. Food was good and presented well. Atmosphere was abit dull and no ambience. Overall a good experience.
Excellent atmosphere and food! We just got into London later in the evening and wanted a nice sit down meal. This experience delivered that and much more! Sebastian and Fatos were fabulous and super friendly. They took very good care of us delivering one mouthwatering dish after another (6 meals, salad, appetizers, and two bottles of wine) right down to espresso and dessert!! All 6 of us left with a satisfied pallet and full tummies! I would definitely visit this establishment again….and again!!!
