Impressive compact restaurant half way between Turnham Green station and Chiswick High Road. Reservations are encouraged given the small space.
HIGHLIGHTS:
eel dish with rice (see my photos) was a revelation with a rich fatty flavour usually reserved for a slow cooked pork belly.
The special sashimi collection is a very generous portion and delicious. Well worth the price. The tuna belly was a highlight together with the clam and scallop.
The smooth aubergine was a delight with its seedless texture just made the whole dish very light.
I would highly recommend liming here oh and ordering the plum wine!

This place is such a close to authentic and pocket friendly restaurant. It's not a fancy high fi place, but if you are craving GOOD sushi and you're around chiswick or Turnham Green this is THE place to go. The fish is so fresh, tender and melts in your mouth. The quantity is brill for the price too. Absolutely enjoyed our Sunday lunch there.
Reliably quality sushi - probably average a lunch here once a fortnight and the fish is consistent. The service is always attentive, warm and quick in the airy restaurant. My go-to is normally the Sashimi lunch which is a bargain at £11 for the standard of sashimi presented. It comes with miso soup, pickles and a bowl of excellent sushi rice but the fish itself is the star: fatty tuna belly may even feature if you're lucky. Some of the special rolls are impressive: the soft-shell crab in particular. For the more adventurous the menu extends to a delightfully grilled eel with teriyaki dish and squid with spicy cods roe, and uni (sea urchin) often features on the specials board although it runs out rather quickly: as a rather luxurious product, over-supplying uni of a lesser quality would be a disservice.
Although authenticity can be an over-bandied about term, Makoto has it in spades and is a cut above your standard London sushi. If you're a Chiswick resident, add it to your neighbourhood rota immediately.
Great place for lunch. Good quality sushi and interesting specials. Speedy service and terrific value add to the appeal.
Superb!. Another sushi/sashimi little gem, Makoto definitely stands within the London's top 10. Finest quality, sashimi melt in your mouth like butter. Not cheap but reasonably priced. Highly recommended.
Makoto is a small sushi bar near by Turnham Green station. Fresh quality seafood, good execution, and fast delivery make it a great option in Chiswick if you have appetite for Japanese cuisine
This place has been open for several years now, and it is a little and quaint setting, with only about three tables. There are a handful of seats at the sushi bar too, and this place has a really cozy quality. There are many economical options for set lunch, and they also serve a la carte.
Great high value Japanese restaurant around local area. Sashimi and sushi are fresh, others dishes also can above average quality. But the tempura is quite normal.
Staff are kindly!
Small sushi place right by the Turnham Green Tube station that serves some of the best sushi we've had anywhere. And the teriyaki eel over rice might be the best dish we've had anywhere in the last year. It is very small, so I would recommend that you get reservations by calling them. We were lucky enough to be seated without a reservation, but we saw many people get turned away. We will definitely return!
I have been here four times now and every time I am so happy with the quality of the food.
I ordered some grilled aubergines, simmered yellowtail, panko fried prawns, the Silver sashimi platter, grilled eel and katsu chicken curry.
Favourite dish was the grilled eel and the aubergines!!! But all of them were delicious. 😋
We went here a couple of times lately. I have always been a HUGE fan of Japanese food and was very impressed. The Salmon Teriyaki is my top choice.Great food and service!!(REMEMBER TO PRE BOOK IF YOU WANT TO GO ON A WEEKEND!!!)
Excellent little Japanese restaurant with friendly service and the freshest ingredients possible. The sashimi was superb and the grilled eel with rice was delicate and full of flavour.
It is a small restaurant, so the atmosphere is very important. I was really impressed with the team who is working there. They were attentive, polite, and looked happy.
Maybe some people don't care about these points, but only cared its food and decor in a restaurant. But to me, it is so much appreciated. Thank you.
Tempura was especially high standard. Light and crisp.
Very reasonable as well.
Amazing small restaurant doing authentic, rich japanese food.
Medium fatty tuna are amazing, but sushi and sashimi in general are really good.
First time visiting and did not disappoint. We gave some feedback about the food before ordering another round, and it was taken on board by the chefs and improvement was made. Very authentic Japanese food and definitely recommend to friends and family.
Found this gem in Turnham Green. Great lunch time deals. The miso soup was delicious. The sashimi and sushi was fantastic. Brilliant lunch
Wonderful sushi 🍣 and sashimi, lovely prepare and served by tentative Japanese staff!
