Trinidadian Takeaway of Exceptional Quality – My Fave Carib Take Out In London - Trini & Tobago ‘Caribbean’ Food Rules!

If you are used to the ubiquitous Caribbean Jerk Chicken and have not yet tried Trini food, go on be adventurous widen your culinary palette and get yourself down to Roti Jouper, you will not be disappointed!

To describe Roti Jouper merely as a Caribbean Takeaway is so missing something that distinguishes this and The Shepherd’s Bush take-out from all the other Carib Takeaways.

What makes this place so special? It is an authentic Trinidadian Takeaway, the creations from this beautiful island are distinctly different from the rest of the Caribbean.

That this place is always busy speaks volumes, having previously visited Trinidad & Tobago I can vouch that the delicious wide ranging menu is 100% authentic.

The cheerful staff who work here from these islands serve you with a smile and help to create a ‘buzz.’

On the menu there is far more to explore than just the overhead displays, check out the mouth watering Mac Cheese cakes and bread.

Also so much from the menu you can freeze, so well worth the effort to stock up if you have some distance to travel.

Roti Jouper was actually discovered quite by accident, and one very positive outcome after my dear friend from Trinidad had been robbed of a purse ( eventually returned intact minus all the cash bar £1 ) seeking solace at a café outside Archway Tube Station, we struck up conversation after picking up a Trini accent, ‘if you want authentic Trini food, do get yourselves down to Roti Jouper in Clapham and mention that Raij Paul Barrackpoor sent you’ Within five minutes we were on our way, just round the corner from Clapham North on the Northern Line, or Clapham High St on the Overground, and wow we were soon transported back to Trinidad. Ordered a massive takeout, which my dear friend took back to her flat in Portslade Brighton.

On 16th October I popped back for another order so heavy that the canvas bag came apart at the seams, this will soon be on its way with me back to Brighton, and thanks for the very generous ‘extras.’

Great Roti!. I love Roti Joupa!!! They make some of the best roti! It's just as authentic as the actual roti from Trinidad or Jamaica. I love the fact that you can order your meal mild, spicy or extra spicy! Definitely one of the highlights of my time spent in London!

This place is totally IT for Caribbean roti! Wrap roti are fantastic here, although I'm vegetarian I'm told the meat ones are also to die for. The prices are more than reasonable; they're a bargain, particularly as a large roti like they give you here is easily a full meal. Utterly fantastic! Check them out.

.....it's truly authentically Caribbean and full of native regulars taking home good food reminding them of sunshine; while there's quite a bit of frying involved, the ingredients are of quality; the roti is truly excellent (if Paul Hollywood visited, you know it must be good); you can get serious bang for your buck; ; they play soca music while you wait. I'm going tomorrow at lunch time before another evening of drinks - I'm already looking forward to it.

Great unpretentious service, fresh hand made roti skin is good. Curry tastes good too, although I prefer mine stronger if i having no meat.
Their food is fresh and is served quickly.
Best curry this side of town by far.
And they also remember semi-regulars.
Proper Trini food and service.

I recently visited this Caribbean place and since I had been a regular at Mac n Cheese, I thought of skipping it and thus went for MacPie which was absolutely delicious. It was really different and refreshing. We were served pretty quickly and didn't have to go through a long wait.

This is one of those places which is known for it's food and that's all. The only reason this place is worth going is because of it's food. The ambience is just fine and nothing that catches your attention. The service is also just okay but the food is excellent. I would love to go back!

If only this place had a better location, I could have given it all my love. However, the food and the lovely staff surely deserve much appreciation. What else does one need in a perfect setting of a dinner where you get great food and company both?
I would highly recommend this place, especially if you're staying somewhere nearby.

My recent visit to this place was a delightful surprise. It has a very cosy, little setting and serves the best Trinidad cuisines in the city. They have great food being served here- I really enjoyed the 'allyu' rotis I had here. I definitely award this place the highest rating, and recommend it to anybody looking for an authentic Trinidad experience in this city.

This is one amongst the most authentic Trinidadian takeaways opposite Clapham North tube station. It is great to be able to avail such food in London. I've had my fair share of encounters with this cuisine, having a Trini partner and having had the opportunity of eating the street food there and home food. Most of the Caribbean places in London are Jamaican with only a few offering a bit of Trinidad on the menus.
This place gets the food bang on! I've tried the curry goat and curry duck both proving to be good. The doubles are usually nice too. The barra was soft, warm being grease free while the channa was fresh.
The problem for me however lay in that doubles are usually supposed to be, a dark deep color with the grease turning the wrapper see through. However, the doubles the other day, were seeming a tad bit sanitized and not the way street food ought to be, in terms being greasy.

Actually Roti Joupa is no more and in its place is Tawa Roti . A tawa is the pan that Roti or chapatis and other Indian breads are cooked on. I’m not sure it’s the same people as it is closed until the 09/08/23. The owners of this Roti shop has changed twice to my knowledge . However the food remains a favourite of mine and the flavour and quality of the food sold has remained consistent so far. I’ve given it 4 stars because the curries have been a tad bland. The idea is to add their homemade chilli sauce, to your own tolerance of hot pepper and spice. The Roti or bread products including the bus up shot which is also a Roti that has undergone some process . It’s actually delicious and if I’m not having a Roti wrap , I’ll buy a portion of “bus up shot” , pop across the road to Rufies and buy some spicy meat on the bone curry and have them together at home . There is one delicious starter that I’d never had until I started eating at Roti Joupa and that is a snack called Polourie . Not sure how to spell it ?? Polourie as far as I can identify is a deep fried batter that forms fluffy little fritters which can then be eaten with sweet n spicy tamarind (imli) hot pepper sauce, grated cucumber and maybe their homemade mango pickle. It is delicious and unique to this restaurant as far as I know. I look forward to Roti Tawa’s opening next Wednesday . The flavours of the East Indian diaspora and the Caribbean have blended beautifully and Roti Joupa and hopefully it’s recent incarnation Roti Tawa will offer that melange of cultures in their delicious Trinidadian fare . As to the atmosphere, it was always a busy take away. They had a couple of uncomfortable stools and a very high shelf where you could rest your take away containers but it wasn’t an eat in type of place. You could eat on the run but it was better to take it home and enjoy the food properly. I’m not a vegetarian, but my usual was the mixed veg Roti wrap, which consisted of braised pumpkin, green beans , chick pea and potato curry with separate sauce and trimmings, a piece of fried fish and a portion of Polourie , again with the trimmings ,to take away. It’s been closed for too long and I cannot wait to eat their food again and meet the new people running the place .

Great food always. I come far to get there but so worth it. Food is tasty especially their doubles. I took take away and the food is packed well and nothing leaked. It's a unique place as not many places sell the food they specialise in. Will definitely be visiting again.

Absolutely delicious! My partner is from Trinidad and he swears by this restaurant. There are many people from Trinidad who come to this place. There’s no doubt that it delivers! I love their food. And don’t hesitate to try the different sides (sorry I wish I could spell them!).

First visit to this recognised establishment. Went for the curry chicken roti, well seasoned meat with a decent heat coming from scotch bonnet chilli all wrapped up in a roti parcel. Tasty and affordable
