One of the coolest and most intimate venues to see breaking music, EP launches, secret shows and the best in new music. Lovely people and fine food and beer are an added bonus.

Great pub, with food to match. Brilliant room downstairs "The Venue" with a sound-man that truly knows his stuff, three very different genres of music, each sounded spot on, especially Nick Garrie. Great bar staff too. 10/10

The Wenlock Arms first opened in 1836 as the taproom for the nearby Wenlock Brewery (no longer in existence) and has seen a lot happen during its 180 years

Pub grub never looked so mouthwateringly mountainous! A new (not pop-up) menu at Sebright Arms pub off Hackney Road brings some of the finest “low and slow BBQ cooked meat served fresh and fast in delicious buns” to the table to be washed down with something sudsy from one of London’s more carefully considered lists of craft and quality beers.

Back where I come from folks have a saying: The South shall rise again. I’ve never given the anthem (and reference to the Confederate defeat in the Civil War) much credence. And I’ve certainly never thought such a redneck refrain would spring to mind while enjoying a beery sup at a popular pub situated deep within the Hackney hipster zone. But between my elbow bends, I was noshing away at a most delectably downhome meal and wondering if Dixie had risen indeed at the Sebright Arms with its new Bunsmiths menu serving an assortment of meaty treats and American comfort food classics.

The best BBQ I’ve had in London? Maybe (and I’d jump at the chance to further investigate). Menu mentionables includes ten-hour hickory smoked beef brisket Bun and 12-hour apple wood smoked pulled pork. You can get either (or both together) as well as all sorts fo other mounds o’ meat generously jammed between a right tasty (demi-brioche?) bun with copious toppings for around eight quid. As carno-centric as this sounds, there’s a great “Veg Fritter Bun” available with golden beetroot, coriander and chilli salsa. I was dining with a pescotarian (hey Kemey!) who deemed her sandwich worthy of a “nine out of ten” rating.

There’s more (so much more) like burgers, a buttermilk chicken bun (top choice for what I aim to try next go round) and a good variety sides including really rather amazing (and large) onion rings (£3) and super fiery chilli chips (£4.50). Dessert? Have another beer. All chicken is free range and pork is freedom foods certified from pigs raised outdoors in natural sunlight.

Need more reasons to head over to Sebright Arms? Laidback atmosphere; phenomenal craft beer selection (Gipsy Hill Beatnik Pale Ale, Five Point Pale Ale, Alhambra 1925, Brookyln Lager – some ace beers were downed during our feast); a well established music venue downstairs … this pub is a fine setting for a drink and is now all the more with the awesome food.

This is a great pub, probably one of the best burgers you find from a pub too. The decor is shabby/chic with plenty of large sofas to lounge in. Music venue downstairs often has some good stuff going on so worth a pop down if you're after something a bit louder.

Lucky chip have been manning the kitchen for a while now and what a good job they are doing too. The place is full of hipsters - generally a sign of good food and good music. The burgers are thick patties often coming in a brioche bun, just what you want as you're sinking into your sofa.

Good selection of craft beers and ales, really good pub tucked away in Hackney.

I found myself there for a quick drink one Friday before gorging myself on Fonduta at Forza Win(ter) and had much more time to appraise the place.

I liked it. It is definitely a pub, not a bar, and not of the shiny gastro variety neither. In fact, the decor rather reminds me of the Bethnal Green Working Men's Club - similar red velvety yet shabby tones abound. There's an upstairs with a few banquettes and tables and chairs, and a downstairs where they have several gigs a week. As I sat sipping my large house red (only a fiver, bargain!) my table vibrated with the drums and the bass of whichever band was warming up in the basement.

While it feels like a local boozer, and its location would rather lend itself to slightly shady clientele (it's on a street off Hackney Road, where there isn't much else) pretty much everyone in there was clad in a hipsterish manner. It's a hip place. And this should really be no surprise when you learn that Lucky Chip have had a residency here since the middle of last year. They serve up some of their famous burgers, like the El Chappo, but have a few more dishes on the menu to choose from, and some specials that aren't always options at their van - one with softshell crab caught my eye, even though I don't actually eat softshell crab myself.

I'm not much of a beer or ale drinker but the Sebright serves the "Real" version of them, and ciders too, and it has gotten the nod of approval from someone I know who knows more about these things than I.

In short, a great little pub.

Finding the best burger in London has become a never-ending project for me considering the frequency I eat burgers is nowadays close to the frequency of new openings. I woke up from burger hibernation last year by an American wave of two heavy-weights setting up shop in central London: Five Guys and Shake Shack. Since then I’ve tried a few places, Honest Burger being my favourite closely followed by Patty & Bun. This time I wanted to try something new, as did my friend. Both of us haven’t tried Lucky Chip yet and after being convinced by rave reviews it was decided and off to Bethnal Green we went. Lucky Chip can be found in Netil Market on Saturdays but this weekday evening we went to their permanent residence in Sebright Arms which is hiding on a side street next to Hackney Road.

The style of Lucky Chip’s burgers is fairly straight-forward. Simplicity wins here with great beef patties accompanied with no fuss ingredients. A personal preference though is to have thinner slices of the pickled cucumber so the acidity evens out more instead of a big chunk in the middle of the burger.

On the whole I can strongly recommend Lucky Chip. The burger meat was the best part and everything else around it just fell into the right place. It’s not worth a detour if you’re in West End since there are good places around Soho/Covent Garden but around East it’s definitely worth a try. And so the search for the best burger in London continues…

Small downstairs venue. Pub area is spacious with plenty of seats . Friendly quick staff with a good overall atmosphere. Venue is downstairs. Low ceilings so can sound very loud and can get quite hot. It's a great little place though. Drinks average prices.

Brilliant small venue. The pub upstairs had a great choice of beer and super friendly staff behind the bar. The burgers from the resident kitchen "slap & pickle" were excellent. The best bit is the small concert space in the basement which had really good sound without being too loud and was small enough to have a great view from where you stood. There's also a small bar down there where it was quick and easy to get served even at a sold out show. I hope to see many more gigs here.

Wonderful old school pub with music venue. Great live sound, very friendly staff and security. A pint and a gig with change out of 7 quid! Wow! 😮

Sebright Arms - I find it mind bending that there are not more music pubs like the @sebrightarms in the capital city of ours. For a country with such a rich music history the amount of small venues that have disappeared and not been replaced is scandalous, but sebright arms is standing strong and waving the flag for grassroots live music. Go and see some live music it’s good for the soul!! PS I saw @charleshowl & @jennifer_misanthropez they were great!

I come here for the lucky chip burgers and they don't disappoint me. They are tasty, a good size I am full but not stuffed. The names are amusing for the burgers but it's the right mix of everything it can be a bit greasy. But I rather have a juicy burger than a dry one. When they say they open at 5pm it really is 5pm don't go early.

Ah super nice! Burgers are a bit smaller than other places but SUPER.GOOD! Ciders and beer are nice. Venue is wonderfully located in a narrow alley and there is plenty of space in the front for smoking and drinking outside. We went to se a concert in the basement and that also was top quality: SKY VALLEY MISTRESS ROCKS!!. Well done, suggested 100%
