A great, independent pub.  This is so rate in London and this place hits the mark.  Great pub food and excellent range of beer.  Cosy and eclectic.  We love this place and it's our regular Thursday night drinks venue.

went to the Magpie & Stump last thursday to meet friends who work in the Smithfield area and they recommended the pub. Very impressed with the look and style of the pub. The beer and wine and cocktail selection was very good with some of my favourite ales (Ghost Ship, and Directors). The food we had (lamb chop, chips and port gravy, burgers, and fresh scampi, chips and lemon and lime mayo) was excellent so a big thums up all round i have to say !

Probably the best pub in the area. Quality food and an eclectic, interesting mix of beers. The theme is brilliantly dark - they used to come here to watch the hangings apparently!

Decent City centre pub. Good selection of ales, which tends to rotate. Wide selection of spirits too. Bar is atmospheric considering its really a modern building, and the outdoor area makes the most of where it is. On the pricey side, but it is reasonable for the location.

Nice ambiance, good selection of ales and super friendly staff. Love the historical connection as pub has been on that spot since 1550 and has been mentioned in Dickens's Pickwick Papers. Especial recommendation for landlord's dog who kept us company. A bit of a Tardis as there are 2 more levels below the ground floor.

Amazing selection of craft beers on tap and in cans. Really friendly staff and they let me sample a few beers before deciding on the voodoo hazy which tasted really fresh. Nice outside seating area to relax in the heatwave

Very friendly staff. Tasty pub grub lunch, generous portions. A little pricey, but given the location and pleasant, comfortable dining area, not bad. It's a modern building (part of an office block,) on the site of an old pub of the same name. Pub proper on ground floor, upstairs for dining tables, comfy seating, cocktail bar. Two minutes from Old Bailey or Fleet Street.

The Rioja was nice and the bar tender seemed to choose a vase and fill it up for a large. Not cheap but good vibe. When it's loud it's buzzy bit that's good for a Friday work drink. Stayed until 10pm. Apparently when it's a bit quieter the locals enjoy board games as it's pretty spacious with lots of nooks and alcoves and small tables. A good local with lots of craft beers on tap - must come back.

Always a good choice for a few quiet pints. The pub is nicely tucked away so it never really gets too busy. I love the history of the Magpie and of course the beers on sale. Food is also pretty decent for such a small pub.

Despite the modern exterior of the building, the bar upstairs inside has a real old pub feel to it. Some old fashion charm, gives the place character and warmth.. Shame that the hand pull beers were not available on this occasion, but alternate beers and lagers are available on tap. Will look to return for a second visit shortly when I hope the hand pull beers will be available. Good alternative to the wine bars located close by.

Walking to the local area I was overwhelmed by the history and that is just what the bar used to it's advantage by proudly showing the fact that the area was used for public executions giving the true nostalgic London feel. The bar has a great buzz in the later hours on a Friday Night truly giving off a great atmosphere. They sell some of the best types of British foods such as pies, fish & chips and toad in the hole which is quite delightful. A bonus is that it is quite close to St Paul's cathedral. In conclusion this bar offers a true London experience with great staff. Shout out to Sarah who was hot on her heels working really hard to try and serve customers as fast as possible.

Great staff, and although busy at Christmas, very enjoyable. Food was at the standard of expect for a kind of good pub/gastro-pub. Only downside, music was a bit loud... I'm not sometime who minds a bit of music.. But was difficult to hear others across the table.
