F&W is a favourite of mine in SW London: I've been here a few times and usually as a pit stop while waiting for someone to come out of South Ken tube station. The Spanish direction of the food and focus on a doing a few things well is what brings me back here time and time again (admittedly infrequently). Their selected wine list is strong and celebrates some lesser-known grape varieties and vineyards if all you know of Spanish wine sits on supermarket aisles. Their cheese board selection is a personal favourite as I enjoy Spanish cheese.
The stark nearly Nordic decor is utilitarian; it looks like an industrial trendy coffee show that actually serves booze and small plates. Perhaps this look is practical and popular with hipster cultures but after a few visits it is now tired. This brings me to the menu and food now. There are a lot of good quality Spanish eateries in London now and in South and West London. F&W benefits a lot from its lean easy menu matched with its location (quick drink before the museum, quick snack before the tube). I enjoy the simplicity but this is merging into monotony now. I recommend they excite and refresh the menu and maybe redecorate.
Again, I enjoy this place and I come back again and again. The problem is old faithful does not thrill me like it used to and I wish it would.
Great food!! Currently visiting London from Melbourne, Australia. It was so good the first time I came back again and again. I had the beans and bacon with added black pudding. Tasty as!
Nice vibes. One thing you could do to improve would be to get the staff aware of the customers when they are coming to pay. So when they walk up to the counter one of the staff members has told the cashier what table they on and the process is simple rather than trying to go through specific orders. The small things make you great.
Cafe life!
Keep it up!
It's The Veggie Option
+4.5
One of the main things that had drawn me and my veggie friend to Fernandez & Wells was (ignoring the hanging pig legs) the seeming prevalence of vegetarian food on display. After grabbing our seats my friend went off to order for us. Never to do one by halves, and tempted by all the veggie food on offer, she ended up ordering two sandwiches and a soup between us. This came to about £15, which I don’t think is too bad considering the popular west London location and the quality.
I spend my money between going to restaurants and concerts. So before getting into the Royal Albert Hall we did a quick stop in Fernandez & Wells . Long time without visiting F&W, five places in London, the one in South Kensington is a bit bigger than the one Soho
The padron peppers were perfect, the hummous smooth and comforting, the gazpacho (soup of the day) bursting of the flavours of the last day of summer and the ham (if I just remembered what exactly we had!) delicious.
Fernandez and Wells is a gem in the crown of the South Kensington food scene. Inside, the cafe is light and airy: white walls are adorned with hanging Parma Hams and their quaint wooden furniture offers the perfect spot to enjoy a well-deserved coffee.
I had a fantastic dining experience. I ordered a hot chocolate and I was spoilt for choice by the exciting selection of cakes and sandwiches. Their Prune Chocolate Cake looked delightful, but their Peanut Butter Brownies had me at hello, and my oh my - the first bite was pure bliss! I've had my fair share of Brownies and Blondies, but these were baked to perfection. The staff also deliver an exceptional service.
My only complaint is that the bathrooms were in a very poor state when I visited. However, I'm sure this was just an oversight and I look forward to return for a hearty meal!
Fernandez & Wells boast an array of delectable dishes, good coffee and fine wines, and is most certainly worth a visit!
Located just outside South Kensington station, the cosy Exhibition Road branch is one of Fernandez & Wells’s five outlets in London. While the Soho flagship is mostly renowned for coffee, the Kensington store is more of a wine bar: the kind you’d visit for a traditional Italian aperitivo, before a dinner or night out with friends.
My friends and I all went for small platters, and made a light dinner out of them. Sarah and Jesse had Manchego cheese, while I, more partial to cured meats, chose speck: a specialty from the Alto Adige, also very popular in the region of Italy I come from. Think a sort of smoked prosciutto, great on its own, in a sandwich, or as an ingredient in more filling dishes (pasta with sour cream, diced speck and walnuts is a favourite of mine).
Speck is one of my favourite Northern Italian foods, and unfortunately, a very hard one to find in the UK. I hadn’t had it in ages, nor seen it in many restaurant menus; finding it at Fernandez & Wells was a very pleasant surprise. The speck on my plate was just how I like it: fresh and thinly sliced. Better still, it came with a helping of toasted bread, drizzled in olive oil; just what it took to end my evening with a taste of home.
I was so busy savouring the food, I barely took any pictures - but If you care to take a glutton’s advice, head to Fernandez & Wells when you fancy tasting something you never tried before. I’m sure your local supermarket doesn’t sell speck, and after trying it, you’ll start wishing that it did.

Brilliant for a quick coffee and a bite to eat in the morning. This place knows how to make a killer espresso, in my opinion it's one of the top coffee shops in London for all you coffee lovers.
This place, somewhat unexpectedly, serves pretty much the best coffee in London. I have been here hundreds of times, and it’s one of the places I miss about living in London. The food is also very good (focused on fairly simple items as they don’t have a full kitchen). Great place for breakfast, brunch or a glass of wine in the afternoon.
Very nice place. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The coffee here was very good as well. I didn’t try any of the sweets or sandwiches, but they looked very tasty. I wish they had WiFi and the seats were not terribly comfortable, but it was a very nice place and nice to get some work done or just relax. Will definitely be back.
A very good place to have your daily doze of coffee ☕️ and if you wish piece of orange or lemon piece of cake..
So happy to see F&W back open. Favourite coffee in South Ken which was actually also what another customer was discussing in front of me! Great coffee, oat/soya available, really friendly staff and amazing food. Usually the cinnamon bun is my fave but I have my eye on their cinnamon and carrot cake loaf...
Nice place. Coffee is very good. Very good sandwiches.
Superb food. Coffee good too. Regularly return and never disappointed with the food and wine. Coffee can be mixed but by far the best in 45 minutes walk.
The almond croissants are amazing. The coffee is good too. A nice place to sit and people watch from the window.
Nice place and great outdoor seating area. I ordered a fresh lemonade. It was fantastic. My friend had a carrot cake and a coffee. Cake was fresh with a really nice butter cream. Coffee had a great taste.
This is a very stylish cafe in South Kensington, with good food, great coffee and cake. Well worth a visit if one has an hour or so to while away and enjoy. The service is quite friendly, but INCREDIBLY slow. There are often several members of staff present, but nobody to speed a new order along if there is a ‘long’ order with family - and rarely an apology offered for a 5 minute wait when you are second in the queue!! I’d like to continue to come here, but wait times need to be addressed!!
Tiny but lovely.
This coffee shop gets really really busy. I've walked in, seen the line and walked right out again, but that never stops me walking back ten min later in the hope the cue is gone.
The coffee os great, the food excellent and the service pretty good.
For me the best bit is arriving early in the morning, ordering a coffee and sitting in the big window seats to watch the world pass by, literally.
