Great quantity, great quality, good service. I would recommend this restaurant in a heart beat.
Pricing is pretty good too, I had a large plate of food and a glass bottle of sprite, all came to £10.10. Worth every bit!
What a shame that this little beauty is so underrated! The food is amazing! The hommous is fresh, the lamb is succulent and the rice is fragrant. The service is polite and the atmosphere is calm unlike the rush of many more centrally located restaurants in London. The carrot juice is highly recommended and the Persian tea and sweets are perfect for an after meal relaxation.Overall I had to rate it 5.0 as I've been to many restaurants rated 4.0 on here that don't come close to this. Love Mahdi's!
Having tried all the other restaurants in the neighbourhood, I must admit that this one proves to be my favourite out of all. Just a week in London, and I have already found my all time hang out spot!
The food here is succulent and the meat is of good quality. The chicken is marinated to perfection and is served with a side bread which compliments it perfectly.
Do give it a shot!
Been inclined towards Persian cuisine, i have had meals at many persian restaurants. This buffet meal i had at this place is by far the most incredible and authentic i have ever had. The food is delicious and very reasonable. Staff is welcoming, attentive and amicable. The atmosphere is inviting. Do come!
Mahdi is my go-to place in the neighbourhood when I want to stuff myself silly with the Persian delights available with them especially served as a delectable, generous buffet. It has great location, just as you take the first right turn from Finchley road station, towards Canfield Gardens. Hard to miss, being, in a sense, next door to the massive Waitrose (not its entrance side but the left one).
Its buffet that I speak of with such overwhelming love is something available seven days a week, during lunch hours. Mahdi’s interiors are beautiful – warm and mesmerising – lovely stained glass work, even better tile work, traditional warm-toned cushions and on the walls, haunting prints of Persian-styled paintings, right out of Rubaiyat as if!!!
The buffet is an unlimited spread with different items every time. I have eaten off their a la carte menu as well – some of those items naturally feature in the buffet from time to time. These usually include some sort of barbecued meats mainly CHELOV KEBABS with lamb and/or chicken; HOMOUS; MAST-O-KHYAR (like a raita with cucumbers); KHORESH GORMEH SUBZI (which is a lamb and bean stew with an amazing kick from the whole preserved limes); to be eaten with either fresh NAN bread or ZERESKH POLO which is the typical Iranian pilaf dish garnished with the tart zereskh berries etc. For the superior grade of food available at Mahdi, I think it is remarkably competitively priced as well.
To do full justice to the buffet, I need to always ensure that I have literally fasted before turning up here and that I have kept the afternoon free so that I can curl up and catch a nice afternoon nap after the heavenly meal one is always ensured one will have at Mahdi.
Restaurant Type: Fine Persian Cuisine on Finchley Road
Date of Visit: Wednesday Evening
Ambiance: The restaurant exudes charm with its tasteful Persian decor and a relaxed atmosphere. The subtle tunes of "elevator" music added a touch of elegance to the dining experience.
Service: The staff provided kind and attentive service, offering recommendations that we gladly followed.
Food: The dishes arrived promptly and were beautifully presented. Our group unanimously enjoyed the culinary choices. Personally, I found the okra dish and lamb shank to be particularly delightful. While the grilled meats were satisfying, they didn't quite reach the level of exceptional flavors we were hoping for.
Quality: Without a doubt, the food was of good quality, leaving us satisfied and craving for more.
Price: The bill came to £120, which covered four starters, three mains, and a bottle of wine. In the context of London in 2023, we deemed it a fair price for the delectable Persian feast we indulged in.
Future Plans: Our experience at Persian Delights has left us eager to return and further explore the culinary treasures it has to offer. A second visit is definitely on the horizon as we seek to delve deeper into the flavors of Persian cuisine.
Overall, Persian Delights offers a charming ambiance, attentive service, and delicious food. It is a worthy destination for anyone seeking a taste of Persian cuisine in the heart of Finchley Road.
10/10 restaurant! Great tasting food, big portions, very fairly priced. Cosy atmosphere with relaxing music that isn't too loud. Finally, some of the best customer service I've had in London. The staff makes you feel welcomed and appreciated.
I'll definitely be coming back
Very enjoyable. We had hummus to start and a mixed grill for 2. All delicious and served quickly. The portions are enormous (as other reviews testify) but our server was more than happy to pack it up for us to take home. We’ll be back to try more dishes, thanks!
A highly recommended restaurant. We had a great mix grill (big portion) and were treated with nice Baklava for free.
Ahmed is very hospitable and made us feel very welcomed and provided great service.
We were on a tourist-tastic day trip to London and needed somewhere to eat en route back to our car, this meal was the highlight of the outing. The meat was so tasty and tender, the portion sizes were huge and the staff so friendly. The icing on the cake was that we booked our table using the Fork app and got 50% off which was just the most incredible value as the menu prices are so reasonable anyway.
Unfortunately, my Ghormeh Sabzi was pretty bland and not as expected. Friends had Loobia polo and Zereshkpolo and they were very happy.
Popped in for some lunch earlier today, having seen a special offer in the window - well done! Without that I would not have known this place at all. The food was delicious, thank you Ahmet. I was pondering on a starter when I saw a huge plate of food go across to another diner and knew I would not have had room for starters lol.
I got the Zerseshk Polo, followed by a Pistachio Dream cake with Persian tea. All in for under 17.00. Not bad at all. Thank you Ahmet, hope to be back again soon.
My dining experience at Tandis was beyond exceptional! The food was divine, we got a selection of hot and cold starters to share as well as the chicken and lamb skewers with rice. Everything was seasoned to perfection and great value for money! Service was also impeccable - I asked if there was an NHS discount to which the manager took off around £15 quid off my bill ! Highly highly recommend, some of the best persian food I have had in London :)
Popped in for lunch again yesterday. Great tasting food. Great service thanks to Ahmet. Was in a rush, train to catch. In : ate mains and a carrot cake with cardamon tea; and out within 40 mins. Will be back again if in the area. Thanks again.
I recently ordered takeout from Tandis, an Iranian restaurant, and I have to say, I was thoroughly impressed with my experience. The food was of excellent quality and at a reasonable price point, with authentic and flavorful Iranian dishes that truly hit the spot.
What really stood out, however, was the exceptional customer service. The staff at Tandis went above and beyond to ensure that my order was accurate and to my liking, even including two complimentary tea cups without charge.
As someone who enjoys trying new cuisines, I would highly recommend Tandis to anyone looking for a delicious and authentic Iranian dining experience. Thank you, Tandis, for a wonderful meal and top-notch service
