Excellent sandwiches, tempted to start eating meat again so I can try the whole menu!

We were just passing by and found this little handmade sandwich corner and was looking through old-school style manu on walls. The staff greeted us straight away walked us through variety of melt sandwiches! It looked like it’s family-run so we gave it a go and packed couple of sandwiches for us! Booyah!! sandwiches were ready in 2 mins even though it was closing time for them. We adored them on the benches of nearby church and that was one of the best sandwich I’ve ever tried! Perfectly stuffed on fresh crunchy bread base! I’ll surely visit you guys again on my next trip to London!

Not the best sandwich in the world but filling and the staff are very friendly and they normally have complimentary garlic bread to keep you going which is much appreciated!

Great sandwich shop where they offer a plethora of delicious sandwiches to choose from at reasonable prices. It's a pretty small shop but service is good and quick and they offered complimentary garlic bread while we were waiting. Overall a great spot for a lunch!

Lovely food. The sandwich I had was lovely. Better than going to Pret in my opinion. A lot more options and not over complicated. The staff were great too. Very friendly. This may be my go to place for lunch when I come to London to work. 👍🏻

Basils Sandwiches are excellent and wonderful. They had a great variety of sandwiches and fillings, and it was very hard to choose just one. The service was great, and the staff were very friendly, they even gave us free samples, so it was an amazing experience overall. I got 2 sandwiches and yes, I ate both. The first sandwich consisted of Italian salami, Swiss cheese, rocket, red onion, honey mustard on brown bread. The second sandwich which was also amazing was their smoked salmon, cream cheese, gherkin, lettuce, lemon and pepper also on brown bread. So I highly recommend this fine establishment if you love sandwiches.

I got a jacket potato from here earlier. It was really good and the place is really affordable. Everything looked great and the staff were so nice. They even had bread for everyone to have while waiting in the queue. Highly recommend :)

In and out in 2 minutes flat during lunchtime with 6 people in the queue before me when I got into the shop. Walked out with the absolutely delicious Salt Beef Special. This is how it is done.

Used this place for almost a year when I work in an office nearby, absolutely lovely food, however on-top of that they are lovely people. The beef and mustard melt is fantastic 👏🏻

I've visited Basil's for my breakfast and lunch everyday this week, the sandwiches are both delicious and well proportioned. A great variety of fillings and breads. The service is great and full of lighthearted conversation. If I find myself here again 10/10 would go again. Oh and prices are quite good too!

Best sandwiches in the city! All made to order, there's so much to choose from there's something for everyone. And you'll be served by extremely helpful, friendly chaps who are speedy too. An all round good egg!

I am an early riser in the City and Basil's opens at 5:30. I love this place, the epitome of a good small business. They work hard and they are always friendly and efficient. The coffee and breakfast sandwiches are excellent as well. Much more satisfying than going to a mega-chain.

Food was amazing. Mocha was unlike anything I've had before(im from Canada so it might just be a difference). But the guy who made our sandwiches was amazing. Very chipper, friendly and nice!

I cannot believe that an eatery in the heart of the City of London can sell food so cheaply and still provide such delicious food. All their sandwiches/rolls etc are so filling, and so inexpensive, you are left full up until dinner time. No more afternoon snacking. Much better than a meal deal from a supermarket.

I’ve seen Time Out have fallen in love with a place called Max’s sandwiches for its oversized portions. Well, I reckon Basil’s would give it a run for its money. I heard about this place from the lovely Alex at Zomato – their offices are near there and she’d tweeted about her mammoth sarnie for lunch. I was transfixed and put it on my List. The only problem was that they are a City lunch place – only open Monday to Friday 12 pm until 3. I had to wait for a day off before I could give them a try!

They make sandwiches fresh for you and have all the usual – egg salad, tuna, chicken tikka, as well as a LOT of variation and some of their own creations. Alex once had a scotch egg and corned beef behemoth. I found it really hard to choose – I wanted something your average sandwich deli wouldn’t do but also something that filled my non-specific craving. In the end I felt I was taking too much time looking at all the options plastered over the walls and went for the first thing that I’d liked the look of – the Chicken Swiss Melt (although the sausage crunch melt also sounded tempting – it has crisps in it!). This was a ciabatta stuffed with Basil’s own chilli chicken mix, chicken escalope strips (there was a lot of chicken escalope on the menu) swiss cheese, mustard mayo and chilli flakes.

I was a little worried that the ciabatta would make mincemeat of my gums but it was perfectly soft, yet sturdy enough to stand up to the overflowing filling. It was served warm and I didn’t want to let it go cold before I ate it so I started tucking in on the tube back to mine. Mistake. The chilli mix was packed with onions and peppers (crunchy and fresh they provided a great bit of bite and sweetness) and it was very saucy. I made such a mess. A delicious mess though. They did not skimp on the chilli flakes and the mustard mayo gave off a lot of its own heat as well, (yet without making my nose hurt the way mustard and horseradish can). I loved the breaded chicken strips. The only thing I would say didn’t quite work was the swiss cheese – it hadn’t really melted properly and was rather superfluous.

And this beast was only £4.90! Fabulous.
