Deliciously fresh bagels and Cholla etc.! Highly recommend this bakery! Worth coming fron N11!
Bagels from here are still the best I've had in London. Can't comment on the cakes that recent reviewers mentioned, but the bagels are great
Oldskool bakery with the classic taste, one of the best in North london. Try their cheesecake mmmm to die for
One of the highlights of visiting my friends who live nearby is to visit this wonderful bakery.
Ignoring the Arsenal posters as a Spurs fan, the prepared bagels are beautiful but the sweet treats like pain au chocolate, croissants and the glorious apple slice are to die for.....
Best bagels for take home I've had in London so far. They boil the bagels before they bake them which is a vital step for the right consistency and one that many places in London like the shops skip because most people don't know how a proper bagel should taste and so you end up with bagels that basically just taste like bread which is pretty sad. So come here and buy your bagels if you want the real deal.
Absolutely lovely bagels! I'm staying in town for two weeks and had The Happening Bagel Bakery recommended by a friend, and I was so lucky because it was just around the corner from where I was staying. They are so fairly priced and delicious! One of the things I will miss the most when I get home. It can get busy in the morning, but what do you expect at such a wonderful spot? They are very efficient though, so I can't imagine anyone would have to wait around for long.
And being from Los Angeles the first day I went in and saw they had rainbow bagels, and still had rainbow bagels at nearly noon, I was completely sold. Plus they tasted great on top of looking beautiful. Definitely something everyone must try.
I go in there for their cholla bread; I find the Kosher bread that is low in/lacking yeast does not cause irritation as per my gluten intolerance as with typical bread, particularly sliced bread or spelt flour bread. The staff there are efficient and friendly, but mostly rushed off their feet with the demand, so no time for chit chat. With their long opening times - I think there’s only a 2hour closing window from 3-5am, you can pop in there anytime and there is parking around the corner. I tend to always pop into Lidl across the road; you must have this bread with Lidl’s salt crystal butter if you’re being indulgent; if not, at least extra virgin olive oil with balsamic vinegar. For best results, tear along its plait lines; using a knife ruins its handmade authenticity/rusticness (if that’s a word).
I also buy doughnuts, rainbow bagels, cake slices etc for friends and family. Oh yeah, the bread freezes and thaws really well, back to perfection, so after it’s cooled down (it’s sold hot, hence the butter), if you don’t have teenagers, what’s left can go in the freezer. I bought some in 2020 before the pandemic, froze them, took them to Dubai where I was staying with friends and family in an apartment and they had some everyday for 5 days straight, oohing and aaahing - defrost, heat a chunk for 5-10 seconds in the microwave and bobs your uncle; back to leaving the shelf perfection.
Everything is perfect! oh, except it’s ‘cash only’, but there is a PO cash point (ATM) as you exit the shop to your right.
The people working here might not be the friendliest in the world, but their bagels are the best I've ever tried in my whole life! Their cakes are really good as well.
Really nice bagels lots of fillings to choose from and they add a lot to the sandwich too
