A very lovely place in London. The sushi and wine are delicious, and of course the great sound system & top fresh djs and bands regularly compliments the bar/restaurant very well. Best regards, R. Paris

Went to their stall at spiral fields this weekend and had one of the best yakitoris outside Tokyo that I have eaten - great team on the ground and very understated - will try more soon

Great food - a lot of vegan choices - the tempura and the dragon roll particularly impressive, and among the non-vegan, the gunkan negitori and the beef sashimi are excellent. Wine list is interesting and well priced, and there's a nice little selection of cocktails too. We had EXCELLENT service on a busy Saturday night, an amazing experience!

Brilliant Corners are relatively new to Dalston. As with any establishment around here it's difficult to know if the are a "pop-up", intentionally or not, or if they are here to stay. The owner (one of two brothers) assures me they're a new permanent feature which is great news. We need sushi nearby!! @Aliiya beat me to reviewing on Zomato by 20 mins it seems so won't repeat what she said but I concur with all of it. There was a marked difference in quality from our first visit two weeks ago to yesterday. Sadly it was nowhere near as good. Most sushi aficionados will agree that the rice is the single most important component of good sushi (freshness of fish is a given). There's a very fine balance of seasoning, getting the texture right and serving slightly above room temperature. Brilliant Corners had nailed it on our first visit... but this time you could tell it wasn't fresh, had been stored refrigerated and compacted together so much that the individual grains were no longer discernable. This was a massive let down and we really hope its just teething problems as they are new.

Beyond that they have a fantastic selection of wines and local brews. This is the sort of place where you can also have a casual drink if you're not wanting to have a full on meal. The staff are super friendly and highly knowledgable about their wine list. Just as the markets are expecting the Governer of the Bank of England to raise interest rates any time soon, I also expect to be raising my rating of 3.5. Miso positive.

LIVE UPDATE:

Its sunday evening. I've been back since last time and already ready to raise it half a notch.

21.10 ordering wine... Choosing something different to my standard Olivier Pithon White Cow. Gone for a bottle of Pouilly Fume. I'm not convinced, but everyone else is. So be it.

21.17 music is awesome. Just ordered grub.

21.32 food arrived. Looks pretty good. No photos allowed. My co-diners pretty annoyed at me on my phone. I don't know why.

21.48 must say the sushi rice has improved. But not totally up to scratch. @superfoodie had a better temaki first time here.

21.56 in retrospect from 20 mins ago... We had an amazing marinated mackerel sashimi and beef sashimi!

21.58 gotta jump.... 4.0!

I gave Brilliant Corners a conditional rating of 3.5, subject to them getting over the problems in the kitchen they are currently experiencing... due to the sous-chef being off for a holiday! I am guessing the sous-chef was largely responsible for the absolutely amazing sushi we had there the first time, when every dish was a gastronomical delight.
Take the salmon avocado salad in the picture for example: what an architecture of taste and creativity! The salmon maki were simply delicious, with the fish just lightly grilled (using a blowtorch i would imagine). The vegan hand roll with tahini sauce would've made a top hit with instagram healthy foodies global community, have I captured it. And most importantly, the sushi rice was to die for! In fact, I never realised before that something as humble as white rice could taste so heavenly. Yet, it was precisely this simple grain that was a highlight of the meal: I imagine i have to wait till I get to japan to experience anything nearly as perfect. What's the secret? Sous-chef knows, I've no idea, all I know is that this was the best sushi rice I've ever eaten.
Unfortunately, the experience has yet to be repeated. We came back last night, only to be bitterly disappointed. The place was totally crowded – to the awe of the owners and stuff who were running around helplessly as they didn't expect that many people on Thursday night. I won't tell the whole story, but the gist of it is that we waited 90 (!!!) minutes to get our food – which was not even half as good as previous time. Not the same sushi, not the same rice, not even the same avocado. The only part of the meal which stood up to the standards was the wine: an elegant and unusual Olivier Pithon's biodynamic "White Cow", the quality of which was not affected by the disastrous underperformance in the kitchen.
I am all hope that the amazing sushi will be back, as otherwise it would be a great loss to humanity (or at least the Dalston-based sushi-lovers like myself). If not, Brilliant Corners is still all-charming little bar that could be enjoyed for its tasteful selection of wines and music. Opened only six months ago by two brothers, enthusiastic about all good things in life (food, wine and music, in particular), it has good chances to become Dalston's next big hit, though I personally vote for it to remain in "the hidden gem" category.

Very cool little bar/restaurant in Dalston with great djs and a solid sound system. Chic design, low lighting, good music, efficient staff and a very simple but pretty pleasing set menu. Worth a visit.

Little bit dark for my taste. Service, all the bartenders and waiters and waitresses they were all talking at the bar, doesn’t look good. Food was exceptional, but is only a SET menu, you can’t order something else because you are more hungry. I’d definitely recomend this place if you are a foodie.

What an incredible bar restaurant. Tokyo vibes, delicious food and top notch cocktails. Nathan is a gem of bartender. Will be visiting on repeat.

Nice vibe on a Saturday night. the drinks were delicious, but the set menu at £40pp seems overpriced for the food you get. Good sized portions, but no exciting flavours. The three set menus (meat/pescatarian/vegan) all cost the same. Our table had to be returned after 1h45min on that dot, but we were offered a spot at the bar.

My first time here, absolutely brill! When arriving, the staff were super friendly and booked to have the set menu. Please visit their website for more details. It's a short walk from Dalston Junction and in the hustle and bustle of this area. I recommend booking a table at 8 pm as you can have the whole eve in there. They have DJs playing records and such a great vibe and mix, and you can see they love it and know thief stuff. When eating, you can see the chefs cooking, which I feel is always a nice touch. The food was super fresh, and the cocktails and drinks list were also reasonably priced. A great vibe overall, and I will be back again. A solid A***** LDT x

Excellent meal - highly recommend the set menu. The oyster mushrooms were my favorite dish by far. The only strange thing was that they didn’t serve any tea or hot water but other than that it was a great dining experience with excellent food, cool music and a good overall vibe

Brilliant Corners is a great place for drinks and dinner in Dalston. My favourites from the set menu were the tuna maki with cucumber & bonito mayo and the chicken kara-age. Brilliant Corners has a really cool vibe with the DJs vinyl sessions which adds a nice element to the place. Service was good, all the staff were friendly. Definitely recommend as a good evening out.

What a find! Had a gig in Dalston and was looking for somewhere to eat. The place we had planned, turned out to be takeaway only, and we saw Brilliant Corners nearby. Great service, delicious, freshly made sushi made for a great start to our evening. It was a set menu only optionat £35 p/p, however as we we planning to have sushi anyway, it was ideal for us. Definitely worth it though, highly recommend and will return.
