Eclipse

My favorite place for s couple of years now. Been coming here ever since a friend showed it to me. The people working there are amazing, the drinks are top quality, love them all. Even though it’s a bar you can have a little dance. Always having so much fun there and will continue to come back. Shame they’re not open a bit later but because it’s a residential area they probably can’t.

Been around since before the 1999 eclipse on which it’s name is based. I was actually there in it’s opening night in Sep 96 I think it was. Hadn’t been for 8 years or so. I can’t say it’s changed much, menu and cocktails has certainly expanded, prices have surprisingly stayed low (for the area). Client base has drifted higher in age terms (along with us) and lower perhaps in quality terms, although that’s very subjective and indeterminate by a single visit. Good cost areas for a drink before or after dinner and agreeable music to 40+ year olds contributed to its 4th star for me.

ANGRY BAR MAN AND WATERMELON!!!!! Saturday 03/08. I have never experienced such intimidation from the staff. The man behind the bar who claims to be the manager is an absolutely rude, arrogant and unprofessional. I entered this bar that evening to be waiting at the bar to be served, normal. Upon waiting there is a sliced watermelon on the bar, which I decided to take a slice and eat, my friend done the same. This bar man noticed us doing this and said that we were not allowed and asked us to give the watermelon back. Which had a good few bites taken from it, but he insisted that it stays at the bar on display, with its chunks missing. Anyway, I thought whatever, moving on. After a few minutes still waiting at the bar, this watermelon is really tickling my fancies. It is looking juicy as hell right now, even after it’s massacre of a few bites from us. So anyway I thought to myself there’s no way they can serve this to customers that has been eaten from, so I decided to take it and finish off. Upon this manoeuvre, the man behind the bar literally jumped from his space nearly across the bar to grab me. He started shouting and making a scene until the security, basically jumped me, rushed me and dragged me outside. As I was taken outside still enjoying the watermelon the bar man came outside to start swearing and shouting at me saying this my watermelon!!! I told you no!!! At this point the security are so baffled to what happened, they have never seen this man react in this way. They then therefore apologised to me and my watermelon on behalf of his behaviour. I warn to all you people out there, if you visit this place be aware of this aggressive bar man and his watermelon. He is intimidating, he is rude, he will harass you and give you a shocking experience. No employee should treat a customer in such a foul manor. I do recommend the watermelon martinis though.

I have visited Eclipse only a couple of times, both of them were on a Friday night. The first one was a rather spontaneous one but we liked it so much that we were forced to repeat the schedule after two weeks. The bar was quite packed and a bit hard to get a drink in your hand. However, when you do get a hold of one, you're up for a really nice night, surrounded by partying people. It's quite the usual mixed London crowd so no surprises there - I'm used to seeing all kinds of people around these parts. Service was not the swiftest and there was a rather long wait for the restrooms but that all can be overlooked due to the awesome ambiance.
