Love it here ,it's my go to place when Iv got a cold too.staff are amazing the owner is so kind and the food is so good .worked our way through most of the menu over the year or so . Everything tastes good I wouldn't say if it didn't .portions a huge too
Can't fault this place. Lovely manager who took a liking to my two boys and gave them a cheeky ice cream each too after a fantastic phad Thai. I had the green chicken curry with steamed rice. The waiting staff were all so friendly. Will be coming back. Haven't been here for years but will be BACK!!
I’ve driven, ridden or walked past this Clapham Common stalwart for years, but until now haven’t had a reason to visit. So it was with delight that I accepted the invitation to try the new spring menu at The Pepper Tree. The restaurant sits opposite the Common a short stroll from the tube and right by numerous bus routes, so is perfect for locals and visitors alike. It’s laid out with communal style tables which help to create a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. We settled ourselves just inside the restaurant, but by the window, in order that we could people-watch to our hearts’ content.
The Peppertree is a good local place to eat some Thai food. The prices are reasonable (for London anyway) and I've been here a few times before making a review. It has been a hit and miss for me as I've been here where the food wasn't great but the service always is and you never have to wait for a table :) *** must try the green curry fried rice *** #favourite
Good food, pleasant staff, reasonably priced.
Place is very close to Clapham Common, only thing is it is the common table seating arrangement so you will have to share a long drawn table with strangers, if you are ok with it - it's good Thai food.
But I was a little disappointed that all curries have shrimp late which leaves a vegetarian with no rice and curry options :( .. So I settled for Pad Thai and Stir fry - which were good. Quantity is more than enough for a single person - order cautiously
Before attending the Greece Mount Athos event in Clapham. I stopped by The Pepper Tree on the long stretch of road for a quick bite. The Pepper Tree has been popping up on my radar for a long time. With my ex-colleagues recommending it, and foodies from around London mentioning the place. Recently the place has been refurbished and is under new management. This place is made to be all squished together with long communal tables, are filled throughout the whole restaurant. At the top end the open kitchen with manic cooks.
Fresh from winning Time Out’s We Love London Award for Best Restaurant in Clapham, the Pepper Tree have decided to add breakfast to their successful and established repertoire. After undergoing renovation when they became part of the Eco restaurant group earlier this year, the Pepper Tree has re-opened with a modern design, complete with concrete canteen style dining tables.
Great food, and thoroughly impressed with the menu. We ordered the Pad Thai, chicken green curry, and Papaya salad. For dessert had the amazing yellow beancake. Must say it was quite authentic Thai, but next time must try the Tom Yum!
Only disappointment was the seating arrangement. Felt very school canteen and was hard to get cosy. Also noticed people ordering individual dishes, not the usual way to eat Thai, as we shared.
We popped along to Pepper Tree on a Friday evening after spending ages using the draw your search on Zomato and debating where to go. It was very busy but we managed to get a table straight away, unlike all the people who arrived after us who had to queue.
You're seated on communal tables which are pretty wide, and given the amount of conversation happening around you it's difficult to have a proper conversation.
Service, due to the amount of people there, could be quicker, but the food can't be faulted. We had a prawn pad Thai and the grilled chicken with sticky rice. The chicken had a gentle spice flavour and the rice was the stickiest I've ever seen!
Probably the best curry I have ever had. Lamb curry just fell apart it was so tender. Would definitely recommend on this alone. My wife did not think the pad thai was anything special though. Venue is small and canteen style and it was cold on the day we went. Stay away from the windows because they're quite drafty if you go on a cold day too.
Usually Healthy But Tasty
+4.5
London favourite. Have been many many times n will b one of the first places I head back to next time I return home. Seafood stir fry.. Always my choice!
It's a must if your in clapham for the day and looking for something quick, cheap and very very tasty. Pleasent staff, great food, relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommended. Enjoy!
Cute little restaurant serving authentic Thai cuisine in the heart of Clapham Common.
Visited following an advise of a guy who claimed he’s going there for 20 years and never been disappointed.
Came with quite high expectations and left absolutely satisfied and happy.
Food is truly delicious, one of the best Thai in London hands down.
Special thanks to the waiter Alexa, incredibly friendly and made as feel so welcome, well done!
Highly recommended and definitely will be back very soon.
What a lovely place! Food is really nice😍and the staff is very kind. Quick service, very good quality. I ordered the red vegetable curry and the spring rolls, beautiful food.
Great Thai Restaurant in Clapham!
We were in Thailand over Christmas and have been waiting to find somewhere that replicates those flavours, and The Pepper Tree delivered!
We did, however, find the prawn toast was a little overcooked & it's mixed with chicken, which we found gave a different flavour.
Tom Yum soup is highly recommended!
Now I need to give a special shout out to the cocktails here because they taste SO good and strong!
Cocktail recommendations**
Ginger Martini
Tom Yum Siam
Lychee Mai Tai
I love the illustrations in the menu. However, there are a few mistypes!
Lovely restaurant with outdoor seating, too!
(Would recommend changing the lock on the ladies' toilet as it's very stiff and almost got stuck)
Overall, it's a great spot for a Thai lunch/dinner with amazing cocktails!
Would definitely go back 🧡
A Clapham institution. Good Thai and SE Asian dishes, with quick service. An extensive menu with lots of choice, and very tasty curries.
Good for pre- and post- cinema trips!
Long benches rather than individual tables, so be prepared to huddle up with other diners, esp later in the week.
Food was tasty and service was quick! I went for the Short Rib Panaeng which I would definitely recommend, as the flavours and spice were great. Decor and layout of restaurant is also nice
Good food , especially the stir fry selection friendly service and fun place. Tables and chairs are decent but can be improved. But will go there again. Plum wine was very good
Delicious food, good vibes, lovely staff. Nightly recommend the papaya salad :)
Affordable! Three of us shared three mains and two starters, with a bottle of wine and came to just over £23 (inc 12.5% service charge)
