Had a hilarious Friday night here last week - yes downstairs is about the same size as your average sitting room/dining room but if you like R&B/HipHop you'll love it. Upstairs is a bit calmer (i.e.: there's breathing space) but a place to let your hair down for sure!
Yes, the first impression when you happen on this place is that it looks a little grotty. There are two things this venue is good at though, 1) showing important football games and 2) a decent Friday night if you stay upstairs. The first one is self explanatory with league games and international competitions shown on the big screens, the second bit is some really good music if you are into your R&B and old school soul. The club downstairs can get a bit packed and its customers are the more dressed up kind wanting to make a night of it, however upstairs is a more chilled affair. The staff are quite nice and even during busier periods the security team are probably one of the most cordial I have met in the area.
Situated between old st and shoreditch high street station it is well located. Slightly larger than a normal shoreditch bar too so you actually get a seat if you arrive around 630/7, although this was on a Wednesday night. They have happy hour until 7 which included cheaper wine and two cocktails for £10 - mostly just the standard ones like mojito, Mai tai, Cosmo, sex on the beach etc so nothing fancy. They advertise two floors and music on Fridays and Saturdays and have another room so wouldn't mind trying that at the weekend.
I always see this place when I'm in East London because it's located in such a central position (at the crossroads between Old St and Shoreditch High St). I went for the first time when I found out some of my university course-mates were DJ-ing a night of house music there.
I was surprised how reasonably priced the food and drinks were. The menu consisted of classic pub comfort food - e.g. pizzas, burgers, beer. Inside, the decor is vintage and relaxed. Interesting paintings hang on the walls and there's always a good ambiance in the evenings. Happy hour is between 3pm to 7pm and there are plenty of savings to be made during this time, such as two pints for a fiver!
Football often draws a huge crowd during Sunday afternoons. They also have comedy nights, live shows, and "acoustic wednesdays". Overall, it's a great place to go after work to relax.
Stopped here for drinks with a friend while we were exploring the pubs in the area. It wasn't too busy when we first walked in but it filled up very quickly an hour later. It's more spacious than its counterparts along the street and the crowd is pretty friendly. A jam session was on the get go a little after we'd stepped in, which really added to experience there. Just a nice little touch to the evening; it's nice to read that they do things like this frequently. Haven't been to the downstairs section yet, but I've heard good things!
Very nice place, day and night ! Not very expensive drinks and food, and good quality ! The service is cool even when it's crowded ! Often good music on friday nights, different kinds like hip-hop, old music and new one ! I had a lot of fun with my friends in here. Highly recommended !
Nice place to have a drink with friends on the evening or to watch the football games. Price are fair enough and the staff is really nice.
The kitchen is not excellent except the pizzas.
On Friday and Saturday night DJ's are coming and most of the time there is a really good atmosphere.
I know the Corner Shop to be a popular place to watch football, and I'm in no way a Premier League supporter - quite the opposite in fact. However I've had really good times at this bar. It's a large pub on the corner of Shoreditch High Street and Old Street. The ground floor has a bar and a canteen-style set-up for food where you can grab affordable, tasty burgers (veggie ones too!), tomato and mozzarella platters, etc. Downstairs, there's a small dance floor and dj booth that get pretty lively at the weekend. This place packs up fast and closes at 2am so best to get there early.
I really like this bar - been there a lot and, speaking from experience, it's perfect to go watch a local football match, have drink in the afternoon, meet up with some mates before going clubbing in the area or even go have a dance on Saturdays. If it's heaving inside it means the dj downstairs is good, so make sure you go. Otherwise drinks (mainly pints for me) are cheap for the area.
The Corner Shop is a really nice pub at the corner of the intersection between Hackney Road and High Shoreditch street. In other words, it boasts a fantastic location right in the heart of Shoreditch. The atmosphere in this place is very often spot on: crowded, young and enthusiastic. The enthusiasm is often generated by the football fans which come and populate the pub on Saturdays and Sundays. Indeed, Corner Shop is the perfect place to come and watch a football game. Now to the negatives. Unfortunately, food at the Corner Shop is really not on par. Last time i ordered a burger, i could only have one bite of it. This was caused by the fowl lamb taste which my beef burger had! What to do! In my opinion, if Corner Shop sorted out its food (or stopped serving any) it could be a fantastic pub. Do note that Corner Shop also has great nights on and regularly invites dj's around. I personally haven't been there in the evening, but hear that things get overall very heated there.
My advice: Perfect for football games on sunny weekends. Don't eat there though, go to brick lane market just 5 minutes away!
Enjoy!
The Cornershop, a most fine pub with a certain Hungarian feel to it! A super place and one of the most friendly places I have been to. Lovely people on the bar, with a story to tell. A true shabby chic, post industrial venue, love it. Not for the real ale drinkers but a fantastic place all the same.
Only tend to be in when visiting London during the week for football and it's a great pub with friendly staff, reasonable prices (for London) and loads of screens to watch. It's my go-to for a quiet pint when the football is on.
What a great place! We’ve had really carefully crafter cocktails and heartwarming chats - all thanks to Chris. Will come back again 🤩
Really nice place, great music and friendly staff! I accidentally left my phone at the bar and the bar staff found it and handed it back to me the next day- super thankful!
Cozy comfortable bar in the evening, DJ comes on later. Nice bar food, cheesy chips were great at £4. And
the DJ so far has not missed. Class hits! Love this pub!
Can't comment on food as I didn't eat but I won't mark down for something I didn't do. However, beer kept well and a really nice safe comfy vibe even late at night. Loos down a flight of stairs always make me want to leave sooner rather than later ( O these dodgy knees of mine ) 😁
Brilliant for viewing sports and great atmosphere. I'm not sure if it's standard but table service the last two visits. Not tried the food so can't comment.
My Wife and I are out traveling through Europe absorbing the local culture and experiencing the local cuisine. After a day of flying and going through customs yet again we found ourselves tired and hungry. We checked into our hotel and started to wander the streets looking for a place to grab a drink and an appetizer while we looked for a dinner spot. Stumbles upon this spot and were greeted with a smile and then treated to their loaded fries and local beers. Amazing service and atmosphere. Ended up staying for more food and drink. Very enjoyable time if you are looking for some homemade bar food!
Amazing service, bathrooms are pristine. The barman/owner goes above and beyond! Amazing atmosphere and cocktails and all drink were amazing!
Went here on a Friday night out, great vibes and very shoreditch-y. Drinks were decent and not so busy you have to wait a long time so was good, no entry fee when I went. I had a good night. And would go again!
