We went during the day during a quiet period, but loved this place. It's decor is classy, atmospheric and full of character. The staff are friendly, the drinks are good and the price isn't too bad. The music and board games are a nice touch, but they're a bit old and tattered. I really like the layout of the place, I believe it becomes a bit more of a club/bar on party nights, I look forward to giving it a try!

Good selection of gin although maybe not all the staff will be able to advise you on that subject 😉 my personal favourite was Irish Glendalough as well as Harrogate but The Botanist or House East London doesn't fall behind at all! good prices on top of that, oh and great rock music 👍👍

Nice Venue on a buzzing location,on corner at Essex Road, at the heart of Islington.Consisting of a main hall, which essentially is a long bar with a DJ booth in front of it- right at the middle of it,facing the bar (with its back against the street)...To the side of it,there is a bit of a lounge area and short passageway towards the square back room called "Satan house", which has broad dancefloor and own bar to the right,DJ booth and some tables along the perimeter;also a darkened lounge sofas. As there is no windows there and is behind double doors it has the possibility to have a second event, parallel to the one in the main hall and unless booked is open to all costumes after 10'o'clock every evening.Overall place is a pub in the days with a string of dedicated event programs for the evenings, turning pure into a dancehall mix club on the evening.. Rarely empty it is licensed to work until about 2-3 in the morning, but there is a "no admission" policy after 1am,so whoever gets in there stays with no more new visitors allowed to join. Music venue for young to middle age people who like to dance and meet up with friends...Staff is amazing, always helpful and very polite; there is some unique positive feeling, call it a vibe in the Pub and it's just amazing opportunity to mix up with different people as well friends and just have some healthy fun any time of the week! Very popular spot for Carribbean and other exotic party on Friday night, where there's a DJS with MC event in; Saturday night is more of everything of everything musically...The have a sort of a food buffet and is usually stormed at the end of the night, when they just stop the music and invite everyone to the side, where jerk chicken and other foods are sold. Prices are quite reasonable and fair enough for the calibre of the club, about 250-300 visitors capacity with quite about enough space,so it doesn't feel overcrowded or stacked, even if it is full... Obviously the backroom is more compact than the main hall which is rather stretched through all front of the floor, good layout and and excellent balance between seated and standing places; enough toilet availability for both genders, located at the basement with access through staircase to the right of the main bar, beautiful decoration and hygiene is quite good... Maybe the best casual drinking venue in the whole area! Famous for fun 😜

Great staff and ambience. Had a fun night. Great music too. The drinks are on the higher side, but it's not a Pub and this is pretty much central London and I defo seen worse. Before 10pm lovely spot for a few drinks after 10pm even better spot if you like to party too

I went here for lunch yesterday and it was great. The staff were really friendly and efficient, and it was a good atmosphere. We had a Sunday roast and we all agreed it was one of the best we've had. Loads of it, but really, really tasty and done with a lot of love. Organic meat, delicious crispy roasties ...not sure what they'd done with the veg but it was yummy and not just boiled carrots and broccoli like in most pubs! Way better than a usual pub roast. Really good and really good value. Recommend.

Good music on a Saturday night. Pizza was being served and a chilled out vibe. I would recommend it as a bar for pre drinks, it started to get a little more lively around 10pm which was a good time to leave or stay on if you were up for dancing. There used to be another room downstairs but wasn't sure if this had been closed? Either way great night out!

This such a great place! Second time my friends and I have been here. The music is great, the scenery is great and the food is great. Only thing is that the drinks menu could have more of a variety but it's not an issue. Also the security in the dance area need to intervene more. We had men pushing up against us and leaning all over us with their big backpacks on WHILE they were also drunk. We also had drunk women spill half their glasses of drink all on the dance floor near us (And over us) before they even got to drink it. There is also a lack of ventilation in the dance area, I end up sweating my make up off within 20 minutes! But other than that it's still wonderful and I always have so much fun!

We enjoyed an exceptional Sunday lunch at the Wenlock and Essex yesterday. But ensure you have a good appetite as the portions of free range lamb (cooked 3 ways), the ‘special’ double-boned pork joint, and chicken, plus all the trimmings and gravy were very generous. Fantastic value, friendly, courteous and attentive staff and manager. Can’t recommend this establishment highly enough!

Nice place within a stone's throw from Angel Station. It is more a club than a pub but they have got a good variety of beers and spirits. There's a small dancing room at the back and a bigger space in the "pub" bit where music is generally loud anyway. Very pleasant atmosphere
