Loved this place to bits. Don't judge the restaurant from the outside. Really lovely and cosy inside. Downstairs room as well. Great food, great quality, fresh fish, light tempuras, yummy teriyaki, good portions, fresh sushis rolls sashimis ... and top puddings, especially the black sesame ice cream. Great service as well !

Went there based on the good reviews on line. Was not disappointed. The food we had was authentic and delicious.

An easy way to tell how fresh your sushi fish is, is by trying out what usually is the cheapest maki on the menu: salmon skin maki. While the freshness of salmon can be masked to some degree, it is impossible to do so with its skin. And Dozo passed this test beautifully; their salmon skin makis were fresh, crispy and had just the right 'fishiness' you would expect. We started off with this beautiful sashimi salad, with generous layers of salmon, yellowtail and tuna over a bed of greens. Delicious. Their makis came rolling afterwards, and the usual suspects were there; Spicy tuna, ebi tempura maki, and volcano maki. Great presentation and very good makis. The menu is not as innovative as you might find elsewhere, but you can rest assured that you will have ridiculously good sushi. The ambiance is very original; elated benches resembling Japanese houses where you sit a bit closer than usual to other tables and it will feel a bit awkward at first when the server stands on the bench to get your order. We sealed the deal with an excellent green tea ice cream. Waiter wasn't very excited to get us more dipping caramel biscuits but we insisted. I suggest you do the same. Final Verdict: very good place for usual suspect makis. £50 a person.

Good casual Japanese sushi place. If you fancy a good sushi with relatively good quality and that is not steep to the pockets, dozo sushi is a good place to go to.

I've yet to find a sushi place that I've been in love with, and I don't think I've found it in Dozo. Nonetheless, Dozo is still a good place to satisfy your Japanese food cravings.

Yes, the seating is a bit awkward and the space intimate, but the ingredients are fresh and the service friendly.

Favourite dishes? The Volcano Roll & Scallop Capaccio.

Note: Book before arriving as it they do get busy in the evenings!

Dozo's appeared on this blog a couple of times and it has to be said that my first visit was an absolute contrast to the second. Since then, it's been a relatively reliable spot for a quick Japanese fix with a fairly inexpensive price range to boot. The floral decor on their sashimi platters is, quite frankly, cheesy and ridonculous but I have to admit the fish always tastes fresh and you really can't complain about three types of fresh sashimi for £14, non?

A bit on the expensive side but the portion is huge. Their bento boxes come with so much meat we struggled to finish (and we are but eaters). Nice atmosphere. Mixed feelings about service, can't quite put my finger on it. Didn't try dessert, but dessert menu looks good.

Expensive but amazing! The sashimi was the best I've ever had, but what really shone was the grilled seafood. It was a little strange sitting on the little cushions but I guess it has its charms. Try and take a table by the wall if you want something to rest your back on!

Everyone raves about the volcano maki here, but it seemed like it was talked up too much for me. It was indeed a burst of flavour in your mouth and impressively presented, but for me the dragon maki was best

Their lunch deals are amazing. Such a steal!! The unagi don was so tasty, even the rice had a generous helping of unagi sauce. Will definitely come back.

We've filtered the restaurant and gave it a try without reservation. The restaurant was full, just two chairs free at the bar opposite of the sushi chef. I love it. To me this is the best place. We ordered Gyoza, Spider Maki, Rainbow Maki (7 different sorts of fish), Otoro Maki (fatty tuna), California Maki, Oshinko Maki, Hotata Kushiyaki (grilled scallop skews) with tea and miso soup. The fish was very good. Nicely plated. We paid £94,10.
All together a nice place to know. A restaurant with huge variety on offer. Happy to have it in my neighbourhood.

After having eaten amazing food in Japan, I was afraid of trying anything in other places, as I know how often the Japanese food is just not up to par. This place seems to be a branch of the Dozo restaurant in Soho – of which I have no idea, so wouldn’t be able to compare and contrast between the two. End of random information so that my blog looks more like a proper food blog. Onto the nonsense. I mean food. In truth, I was right about my fear. The food was just not up to par – altough I guess whenever you go to a country and have the cuisine there (I’m sure the same is the same for every Asian country), you know it’s just not going to be the same. Not even the service was all that great – the food having been brought separately: Kai got his soba and tempura quite a while before I received anything. I wen

Had a lovely meal with a friend 😋 the sushi was amazing as always loved everything including the service. Some lady kept complaining on table next to us tho 👀without her would've been much better but didn't effect how good the sushi tasted 😂😋 I always recommend trying the volcanic maki !!

Tried this place for the first time and found in nice. Food was good, tasty and fresh. Service was good and fast. Price are reasonable for the quality of served food! Didn’t take picture of all food which we ordered. My recommendations are: salmon tataki best! Salad with fish sashimi very good! Chicken gyoza best! And food from my pictures: Volkano Maki - good, Fish ramen - good, Duck - best, Fish bento box - very good!

Noticed a lot of nationals were having lunch in here and decided to give it a go. Came across a great customer service and delicious food. Will definitely return. Please try the green tea ice cream. It is very tasty.

The lunch menu is quite worth the food you get. Although not super authentic Japanese food I also really enjoyed the volcanic maki!

Ramen soup is bland. Too much rice on Chirashi Go for tempura and sashimi.

Dozo restaurant in Kensington is a great place to enjoy some authentic Japanese cuisine. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, with a traditional decor that sets the mood for a delightful dining experience. The staff at Dozo are friendly and welcoming, providing excellent service throughout your meal. They are knowledgeable about the menu and happy to offer recommendations and assistance when needed. The food is simply outstanding. Each dish is beautifully presented and packed with flavor, using fresh and high-quality ingredients. The menu offers a range of Japanese favorites such as sushi, sashimi, tempura, and udon noodles. One of the things that I appreciate about Dozo is their commitment to authenticity. The dishes are prepared with care, and the chefs take pride in using traditional methods and techniques. Overall, Dozo is a solid choice for anyone looking for great Japanese food and a comfortable atmosphere.

My family was seated on the lower level in a sunken table in a cave lone setting. I've only seen this in Japan. It was a fun experience for the kids. It is a dark restaurant. The ramen was tasty and a large portion. The meat was tender and flavorful as were the vegetables. The sushi was as good as any I've had in the US. The waiter was attentive and provided great service. Highly recommend this spot.
