The atmosphere is a proper romanian and makes you comfortable. The menu have classic choices and covers enough options. Don't leave without trying the traditional romanian style of homemade vodka that is called Pălincă, is one of the best, start with it and continue with the wine and finish with the Papanași. :)
The ideea of having this type of kitchen in central London is very good because I'm sure you already try Italian, Chinese, Indian, African, etc.... Definitely u have to try some balcanic kitchen! Enjoy it!
Home made Veg soup with separate vinegar soaked chillis was lush.
Sarmale was nice and delicate flavours. Cabbage not too strong. Wish there were more than 4 rolls though.
Papanasi topped it off. That was a nice large portion.
You'll have to go to Romania to match it.
Very nice traditional Romanian restaurant. We have tried only the Romanian plates. Great sharing starters. On the mains, I liked the smoked grilled sausages with pickles and the polenta with feta and sour cream. Mandatory the papanasi as desert.
As a Romanian I have been to a lot of traditional restaurants outside my country. However none stood up as this one did. Amazing food! Highly recommend!
Great Romanian food. Too bad they don't serve alcohol. Salata de vinete and mici are highly recommended as starters.
Cozy place with delicious romanian food and the staff is welcoming. You really must try this place if you're in the area.
Tastes like "home". Small place but big enough to fill your tummy.
Went as a large group, with Romanian colleagues. Lovely service and friendly atmosphere, this place is authentic and frequented by plenty of Romanians. Food was overall excellent though some dishes were not as good as others. Very good value for money and would recommend to any wanting to try Romanian cuisine
Friday evening one of my romanian friend invited me to La Maria restaurant . The restaurant it is very pretty with an nice vibe and the music makes it . I’ve tried romanian food for first time and is absolutely Delicious. The sarmala with polenta , micii with mustard and that lovely , lovely bread was something which I never tried but tasted soooo good.
Great place for a bit of authentic Romanian food. There’s no booze but you can bring your own. Staff is very friendly and the food is good, prices are fair.
I have been to a few Romanian or Italian/Romanian restaurants in London over the years but La Maria is the best I've tried. Very good sarmale, polenta and mititei. Unfortunately it has no license so no tuica. More's the pity! I look forward to going back.
World culinary is full of smells, is tasty but when we talk about home, about dishes you grow up nothing compares with Romanian cuisine. "La Maria" is a very cosy place in London where you are feeling like home.
