It’s that time of the year when we want see friends over a relaxing meal and a glass of wine. I recently had lunch with an ex flatmate who I have known for many years, so many in fact that we flat shared before the UK joined the EU. This year we decided that our location should be in the rapidly expanding area around Tate Modern. A few steps away from the gallery is Carluccio’s, the perfect solution, I have eaten in their branches before and they have got a festive menu offering interesting Italian food rather that the ubiquitous turkey roast.
I know this is a chain but what a great chain it is. Fresh food made daily and served by friendly staff in a lovely environment. We had morning tea and were very happy with our choice. Great coffee and lovely choc-chip cookies that were really filling due to the quality of the chocolate. Just what we needed to get us through to lunch. Lovely. I would happily return for a more substantial meal.
Great place for after work meal. Fresh tasty ingredients. Good service in a nice open setting overlooking tate Square. Green olives, Brushetta, and swordfish are all excellent. £27 with a drink. Will make it a regular.
First time to visit this chain. Quite impressed, in some ways, staff were friendly and generally efficient. Being honest im not sure if chains in general hire too few staff, if they are busy when we visit or if some aren't too fast. No major issues here but had to try hard at times to get attention. Maybe its just London at half term. Anyway food was of a good standard, osso buco was very nice, with a well seasoned risotto, a steak was not done as medium rare (was rare) but was tasty regardless. Reasonablly priced bottles of wine.

A convenient, bright & nice Italian restaurant near Tate Modern. Carluccio's is a famous brand/name for a good Italian restaurant in UK. Try the mushroom soup. It is very delicious. Bought to bring home their 'glaze ai funghi porcini' & cheese.
you cannot go wrong with carluccios, the staff is always very friendly and the food doesnt disappoint. We always have a magnifica which gives you the traditional fry up in the italian way. The food is ways very good and the coffee even better. Pop over as this is one of my favourtie carluccios in the city, stays in a quiet area and you can walk to borough market. Buon appetito!
Pleasantly surprised by food and service. The lady taking our orders took great care in ensuring whatever we had complied with our various dietary requirements. Food was V nice too. Sorbet V nice if you want to try.
Food was lovely and service was quick. Only reason i'm giving it 4 stars and not 5 is due to waitress serving our table. She made a few errors getting our orders but she did correct them after.
Not particularity impressed with the steak. But the cheesy garlic bread for starters was amazing! The rock salt on top really made it a lot better, big fan. Lovely interior and really great staff.
Came for a morning coffee and new Vegan croissant. They had sold out (typical!) But had this vegan chocolate pastry which was lovely. Nice place, not busy in the morning at all.
Enjoyed our lunch for four.
The manager was very accommodating and did his best to provide us with a table where one of our guest who is hard of hearing would be able to communicate without too much noise interference.
Federica, our server was very attentive. She ensured that we were not in need of anything.
Overall a very lovely lunch time.
Amazing place. Lovely food..Would recommend this restaurant..
I find this to be one of the most consistently great restaurants on the South Bank. We mainly eat here as a family, usually at lunch, and they cater really well for kids and adults. The food itself is usually excellent--there are things that they do amazingly, especially the pasta, but I have had the odd not-so-great dish. When that's happened, I've ALWAYS had someone ask if there's something wrong and I stay yes. A reply is always gracious--an offer of something different, a little something extra, a reduction off the bill. The staff are great. And if they aren't, you catch the eye of someone else working there and it's sorted out.
I'm surprised by some of the negative reviews here. I'm not sure what people are expecting. Carluccio's is a good, mid-level, chain restaurant. This is not uber high-end eating. They're better than almost anything else in this strata of dining. The Ivy it is not. But it's certainly better than most and a good option almost all of the time.
Third visit here in 2 months, and the least satisfactory. On our previous visits the service was prompt and friendly. This visit was different however. It was a weekday afternoon, with a handful of diners but we seemed to have to wait a long time to be served by an indifferent waitress. The food was fine, as usual. Reading through some of the previous reviews, there does seem to be a problem with the consistency of the service. Maybe an in- house training session is required with perhaps customer satisfaction cards placed in the Restaurant?
We called in as a party of four whilst passing, without booking, on the off chance we would get a table. Place was absolutely rammed but the manager was very accommodating and found us a table after a short, but understandable, wait. We couldn’t fault either our meal or the service from our young waiter ( apologies - can’t remember his name ) and we enjoyed it.
Myself and 2 friends took our trainee guide dogs to this lovely restaurant this lunchtime. For me it will be the first of many visits, my friends have been a few times before. The food was lovely, service was very good and they were very considerate with the dogs.
