We were kindly greeted upon entering with 'salam aleikoum'. The staff was very friendly, and service was prompt. The appetizer was fine, however, the main course was very tasty. There was a rich variety of dishes. All sorts of allergies and eating preferences were well taken into account. We were with a large group of 80 people, but still we were helped quickly. Next time we go to London we will definitely go again to Standard Balti House!

Food was fantastic and at a great price. Ahmed showed amazing customer service throughout. Will definitely return again in the near future - recommend to anyone looking for a great Indian! (Not just your ‘standard balti’)

We had the vegetable Thali and Ahmet recommended it to us, it’s a difference maker compared to the other places at brick lane, we can definitely recommend it!

Visiting The Standard has become a cherished tradition for our regular gatherings with old school friends. Each time we step inside, we’re greeted with warmth and exceptional care by the staff. The delectable dishes arrive promptly, sizzling hot and bursting with flavor, enhancing the overall experience. The service is nothing short of exceptional, and the ambiance exudes a delightful charm. It’s truly a hidden treasure nestled in the heart of Brick Lane, making our reunions all the more delightful.

Some of the curry houses on Brick Lane - even the most popular ones - tend to treat everyone as tourists and as a result, the quality of food and service is not great as they are not interested in repeat business. Standard Balti House served me freshly prepared tasty home-cooked curry and the staff and service were excellent, treating all as valued customers whether you are a regular customer or visiting from abroad. Ahmed explained the Bengali dish to me and checked I was happy with everything once it was served. Enjoyable.

We tried The Standard after speaking to the guy at the front door, who offered us a great deal as we were eating early on a Wednesday evening. The deal lived up to his word, we had really nice food, drinks and service from our old mate Ahmed. Would come back again and recommend.

I was visiting London with my mum and we both really wanted to try typical Indian food as we're from Belgium. So we decided to go here :) not only was the food amazing so was the service, after our meal they gave us chocolate that we both liked a lot! I even asked where they got them from and they gave us extra. Ahmed the waiter in question was the sweetest! overall a really fun experience I'd 100% recommend!!

Note: I’ve rated this as 4 but it’s more like a 3.8 based on us visiting higher end restaurants where we feel a 5 rating is more achievable. For the cost – and worth noting that its much more reasonably priced than some of its neighbours – I’d say it’s definitely a 4. Much nicer decor/ambience than other places on Brick Lane and really lovely/attentive staff with great level of service (just quite slow in bringing the bill). Foodwise, the prawn puri starter was one of the best we've had on Brick Lane (we live around the corner so have tried lots!). We also ordered the chilli garlic lamb (nicely cooked lamb and perfect level of heat but could do with more garlic), prawn vindaloo (great distinctive flavour but could have been spicier), aloo gobi (a bit bland and more potato than cauliflower) and a really tasty lamb biryani with beautifully slow cooked lamb and tasty perfectly cooked rice. Very generous portion sizes (moutain of meat in the biryani!) and when staff asked for feedback (a nice touch which doesn't often happen in the area) they then gave us suggestions for next time. Definitely plan to visit again!
