I so wanted to give The Old House 1147 the 5 stars that it used to warrant, however for me it loses a star for a couple of reasons.
For a start, and most personally crucially, it is less of a chef's dining experience compared to when we were last there in 2021. Back then the menu was creative, a bit adventurous, tasty, and a bit different. Now the Old House is another casual dining outlet. Admittedly however a good one.
The other reason I have taken the once 5 star rating down to 4 stars is perhaps a little bit picky. And that is that I felt the service was, again admittedly, on rare occasions ever so slightly off. For example, dumping the dessert cutlery on the table and leaving us to sort them. A small thing yes, but I was expecting better. And to be fair 98% of the time it was.
We would definitely go back there, especially on a warm afternoon or early evening when you can sit outside. It is at the end of the day a special place, the history, the stunning Tuscany-like view, the lovely village, and the building itself are the key factors that make it so.
Nice upper market pub b&b inn type stay with amazing views of Welsh countryside and hills. The evening meal and breakfast was good quality. The room was spacious and my room had an extra double bed bunk bed. Perfect for a night stop over on the way to Port Talbot.
The food was really nice. Beautiful place and views. Friendly staff. Will be going back again.
Beautiful scenery and lovely staff. Went for the Sunday lunch and food came quickly and for the most part was delicious. Lamb beautifully cooked but the pork was slightly dry. Despite this it has a lovely relaxed environment with stunning views.
Superb Sunday lunch in a stunning location. Well worth the drive. Care and attention has been given to every aspect of the meal with fresh ingredients being cooked to an impeccable standard.
Amazing food, friendly staff. Have already booked to go back. Highly recommended.
Great pub restaurant, lovely grounds for a sunny day and very nice indoors as well. Reasonably priced, great Quality and friendly staff.
Nice new and fresh interior. Food was very reasonably priced and very good quality. Also potions were ample. Will definitely be back.
Outstanding business with breath taking views and stunning well kept grounds. Excellent service by all the staff, they can't do enough for you and keep on smiling even when working in the glorious Welsh heat. The Sunday lunch was excellent value for money and well presented, we would loved to have had dessert, but we were full from the main meal. The food was delicious and with the right amount of portion size. The establishment is just beautiful and well run by it's great management and team that deliver excellent customer service. We look forward to going back to try the day and evening week menu. Great vibes and atmosphere. Highly recommend.
Beautifully set in the Welsh countryside. Elegant mix of old and new . Beautiful views with large windows to enjoy the green rolling hills . It is very busy and sought after place for Sunday Roast so reservations are a must. Extensive drink menu with a beautiful bar at the front . Food was good, very generous portions for the roast. Very accommodating for families with young children. Beautiful patio space to sit back and enjoy.
