So sad that this brilliant restaurant is closing. I received an email informing me that my Valentines' Day booking was cancelled. I hope all the team get good jobs elsewhere. Great shame.
The 9 course taster menu was unbelievable, the wine flight was superb and very well matched, Aiden Byrne was a great host interacting regularly with us and detailing the thinking behind his food creations......He has a great team working with him as well.......
We had the 6 course tasting menu and each dish was delicious (our favourite was the sep mushroom with artichoke but all of them were gorgeous ). The service was excellent and each course was described to us in detail. The fact that the kitchen is very open is an added bonus. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
My partner has a wheat and dairy allergy, and I am a pescatarian, however the food served to both of us was excellent. The cocktails especially were very nice and we really appreciated descriptions of each dish from the chef.
Lovely evening. Super food and friendly service in a relaxed and attractive environment. By the time we hand finished eating and chatting we had been there 3 hours but the time had flown past.
My husband and I visited for the 9 course tasting menu and wine pairing on a Saturday afternoon. Of the 9 courses there was only one that we weren’t sure of, the rest were great, particularly the mushrooms with artichoke - we both thought it was utterly delicious!!
We visited the restaurant previously when it was Manchester House and it was very busy and lively, at this visit there were possibly 4 other tables during the whole lunch service and it was very quiet. The staff were attentive but as it was quiet I think they were almost a little rusty from having so little to do and made a few mistakes... including our order of one pescatarian menu which they’d already gone through with me.
We did enjoy our visit, the food was fab but not sure whether we’d visit again due to the lack of atmosphere. I’ll be keeping an eye on the future reviews to see how it’s doing first!
I ate here for my birthday and had an absolutely awesome evening from start to finish! Every single dish was packed full of flavour. Loved how the first two dishes were the same flavour profiles but were executed in such a different way. The pork head fritter was so juicy. The scallop wit yuzu was so light and fresh. As for the dessert, chocolate lovers heaven!!! Such a great texture and flavour with the miso ice cream. All the wine pairings were lovely. Would highly recommend restaurant MCR!
Can't believe our luck! Having recently moved here, we have this wonderful restaurant right on our doorstep. Today we've once again greatly enjoyed the three-course lunch menu. For taste, presentation and service this place sets a high standard.
I took my husband to Restaurant MCR on Friday 22nd to celebrate his 50th birthday. The culinary experience made his day. Food and service top notch. Aidan Byrne bringing out one of the 6 dishes was an added bonus!! We had the 6 course taster lunch and wine flight. The knowledge of the staff about the food and wine they were serving was exemplary, especially the gent who was only in his 2nd week. Well worth a visit and we will be back. Thank you Aidan and team for making my husband's birthday so memorable.
..by the time the food has been prepared, plated, taken to the the table and then Mr Byrne gives his chat about the ingredients and cooking methods - the is Luke warm.
The food is actually brilliant but, to my mind, is let down by this issue.
The staff, location and food are very good indeed so I’m sorry to make this point but it is not cheap to eat here so it needs to be right - just sayin’ !
What a fabulous evening. We did the tasting menu and throughly enjoyed it. The service was very good. The staff took pride in the food and presentation. I would recommend.
What a gorgeous lunch - the food was impeccable every mouthful
The carrot course was amazing as was the cod tongue
So glad Mr Byrne is home again x
We dined at MCR last night. It was my mum and dad’s golden wedding anniversary and I had booked dinner as a surprise.
The evening couldn’t have been more perfect and I would like to thank the whole team.
It was the first time my parents had experienced a tasting menu and wine flight, and I was a little anxious about how it would be received. I shouldn’t have worried. The food was exceptional and the wine pairings original and well judged.
Aiden introduced some of the dishes, which was a lovely touch, especially hearing about the sourcing of one or two local, seasonal ingredients and the recipe research.
The room, ambience and pacing was just as we would have wanted.
Thank you for helping us celebrate in a way that will live on in our memories.
Love this restaurant. Every course is top class, very refined and delicatel. Beautifully cooked and executed. Who would put monkfish with roasted shallots & an onion membrane skin, but boy did this work. Duck breast with a pearl barley & duck jus. This was just incredible. Aiden pushing boundaries again. Love it
Spent a fantastic night in this beautiful restaurant. The food was out of this world. Service was second to none and all very reasonably priced. We went for the taster menu. I can honestly say that every dish was to die for. Aiden Byrne is not your run of the mill chef. If he was a footballer he would be Lionel Messi. His imagination and creativity are second to none. How this restaurant hasn't got, at least, one Michelin star is beyond me. Well done to everyone involved.
Very highly recommended.
Restaurant MRC is a special place.
Probably my favourite restaurant in Manchester. The quality of the food and service is just the best you can get.
From the taste, presentation and atmosphere of the place is of the highest standards.
I have been and had the tasting menu multiple times and I cannot complain about the experience. The food and the staff were just sublime! Definitely a great place to go for a date, special occasions or just a really great meal out.
A very unique atmosphere and an interesting experience of food. Definitely worth a visit.
I do miss the afternoon tea and I hope that soon in the future we will see a return of it.
Amazing food and stunning service. Anthony was lovely and made us feel comfortable and classy. It was my boyfriend's birthday to which he received a card from the chef. 100% will start a birthday tradition of dining here.
Having spent many years eating all over the world and in Michelin starred restaurants, I can confidently tell you that Michelin have no idea what constitutes good cooking nor good food. If they did, MCR and Aiden Byrne would have been listed years ago and especially now he has returned to MCR. My tests are pretty simple. Could I imagine cooking it? Would it work if I did? Could I cook it consistently well? Does it have a unique or different taste to what I have had before? Do I marvel at the taste and want more? In terms, do I look at my partner across the table and nod happily and maybe murmur "Yep, that's good".
The answer to those questions is NO, NO, NO, YES, YES, YES. Some people will think this is a waste of time and money and not enjoy nor appreciate it. I accept that. Food and the enjoyment of it is a subjective experience and a product of your upbringing and life experiences together with daft things like your body loving the taste of salt. All I can say is that, in my terms, and that of wife and daughter, as above it was excellent and worth the money for the experience of the tasting menu and wine pairing. Wife in typical understated mode says "it could be better, but not much".
