Average food for the price, not rushing to go back
Visited on Saturday and ordered a salt and pepper tofu and rice. It was very bland, hardly any sauce,l so was really dry, pretty disappointing. Won’t be rushing back, there are a few similar cafes in Ancoats so will probably try the others for comparison
This is the second time I have visited Vnam and I can honestly say to anyone who enjoys tasty food, this place is the one.
Thus far I have sampled:
Salt and Pepper wings; literally the best chicken wings I've ever had in my life, so crispy and tasty and delicious, I don't know how they do it. The salt and pepper prawns are equally delicious, the prawns they used were so fresh and perfectly cooked. I also had the pork belly stew, again, amazing perfectly seasoned, lots of flavour and the meat was so tender!!!!!
I could go on but, you get the jist. The food is incredible, and the staff are super friendly. The atmosphere in the restaurant is so nice and welcoming.
I am moving from Manchester soon and I will be so sad to leave this place behind!!
Thanks vnam, you're the best.
Recommended! Affordable and delicious dishes. The staff was very friendly and smiling all the time. It made me remember the delicious food that I tried when I went to Vietnam last summer. Looking forward for my next visit.

Everybody has a happy place. When they are stressed or upset, they close their eyes and are transported there. A beach, tranquil farm house or deserted island. Mine is Wing Yip oriental supermarket. There I can find all the hard to find ingredients from my Ken Hom cookery book, sing ‘Under the Sea’ to the tank of live lobsters and threaten to throw a vomit fruit at the hubby. All this while getting a trolley full of brilliant quality produce for a pittance. After first discovering this heaven on earth and announcing it to all of twitter, I was informed that I was the last to know (enough of the secrets, twitter) and it was suggested by Manchester restaurant mogul Thom Hetherington that on the occasion of our next visit, we should visit Vnam, a Vietnamese restaurant across the road. Never to ignore commands from people of power, I made sure we did. Thank heavens I did my research before visiting. It was North West Nosh’s blog post that dropped the bomb shell: Vnam do not have a liquor l
The food had clean, fresh flavours, but perhaps lacked some of the fragrance I had expected, probably because there weren't the quantity and variety of herbs that I'd associate with Vietnamese cooking.
Gòi Ngó Sen (Lotus Root Salad), Cua Lột Sốt Me (Tamarind Soft Shell Crab) Chim Cút Nướng (BBQ Quail) and Gà Bọc Lá Dứa (Pandan Chicken) – all dishes are freshly prepared and tasty and made me extra eager for my trip to Vietnam in the summer.
Readers of my blog will remember previous glowing reviews for Baekdu, BBQ Handmade Noodles and Izakaya Samsi - well here's another to add to the list: Café Vnam...
Came for dinner with my son. There's halal options and lady who served me explained this to me without me even asking. Food was nice and fresh. Crab was nice and well cooked. It wasn't too busy. Food took a bit longer than I expected but worth the wait.
Really enjoyed my meal here. Lunch menu is great value. Staff were friendly and very knowledgeable on allergens in each dish. Beef Pho was full of flavour and meat spring rolls had that authentic home made taste to them. Looking forward to visiting again soon.
We came to the new restaurant opening yesterday and I will start by saying the food was delicious as always! We used to go to the old restaurant and couldn’t wait to come again at the new location. The staff were all really nice and the decorations are ace. Unfortunately the new ordering system let them down and food service was slow but we completely understand teething problems and the staff were great at accommodating to us. This definitely did not put us off as the food was top notch, definitely still the best Vietnamese food I have had in Manchester!!! We will be back very soon :)
Have always wanted to visit Vnam but never had a chance when it was in Ancoats. Now it's a bit closer to home, I was able to come for lunch with a work friend. We were greeted by friendly faces and led to a table on the other side of the restaurant.
We ordered from the lunch set menu and our food and drinks came out quickly. I had the BBQ pork with rice and we shared summer rolls to start, all of which was delicious! Good lunch deal as well, £15 for a main and any soft drink, and the portion sizes are generous.
Will hopefully come again to try the other dishes on the menu.
Delicious food, attentive staff. I ordered pork belly with rice noodles and the pork was marinated well and still juicy. Extra generous portion!
Food and drink were delicious. 2 for £12 on selected cocktails. I recommend the sharing platter.
My friend and I went in for lunch on spur of the moment . So glad we did! Never had Vietnamese food before so had the fixed menu and I loved it! I had spring rolls and Pho. The broth was delicious and tasty as was the spring rolls. The staff were warm, welcoming and helpful. The place itself was colourful as you can see with the parasols, and felt comfortable. Will definitely be back to taste the main menu! A place to try on your travels....
First time trying Vietnamese food. Absolutely loved it. Tried both of the sharing platters and the vnam rice which were absolutely delicious. Will definitely visit again. Staff were friendly and service was quick.
Went for dinner with a few friends on opening night and in spite of a few teething issues we’d a great time. Food was superb and the staff couldn’t do enough for us.
Authentic Vietnamese food, more than generous portion sizes. I will be going again soon. I was so keen to tuck in I forgot to take pictures. VNam is very close to the Arndale so very convenient if doing a spot of shopping afterwards.
