This is our favourite place ever, where we love to go when I’m not working weekends. There is nothing not to like, the wine is well kep especially the New Zealand Sauvignon, the bar food is the best ever, and if your lucky enough to book a table in the dining room you definitely won’t be disappointed. Love this place.💕

Convenient for accessing The Royal Exchange Theatre. Good lunch. Friendly staff. Historical venue. A warm welcome always. Usually very busy in the bar area dining but not this day so everything arrived quickly. Great.

If you want a good meal that satisfies at reasonable prices give this place a go. I've been here before but we took some friends and you see it with fresh eyes. It really is something special this restaurant because of the cooking and its' menu. Quaint doesn't always mean old fashioned.

I ordered Sam’s Famous Home-made Corned Beef Hash. It was an experience of near-religious proportions; the corned beef hash was rich, moreish and incredibly savoury.

Much of that clubby feel remains and like it's sister (brother surely !!) restaurant, Thomas's Chop House on Cross Street maintains an exceptional wine list. They had advertised an express lunch menu , 2 courses for £11.99 , 3 courses for 13.99. The OH had a goat's cheese mousse on mixed leaves served with home made piccalilli followed by a burger , I went for the brown onion soup with a Lancashire cheese crouton, then sampled the pork faggots with apple and thyme on mashed potato. Almost OK but the the service was most definitely not express and the eventual bill with 2 orange and sodas, a glass of house red and a pint was almost double the th

A week ago today, a life-size statue of L.S. Lowry and I found ourselves the first two customers in Sam's Chop House for breakfast. Famous for his paintings of 'matchstick men' and urban and industrial landscapes, in life, Lowry was a regular at Sam's for many years. Whilst the bronze ( placed to mark the 35th anniversary of his death) propped up the bar, I enjoyed a delicious 'full English'. Not generally a fan of a hearty fried brekkie, wanting something a little lighter, I opted for 'Sam's Veggie Breakfast' over the omnivorous 'Best of British'. They also offer 'Sam's Famous Crispy Corned Beef Hash Cake' 'Eggs Benedict' 'Eggs Florentine' as well as a range of 'barms' 'porridge' and other assorted breakfast favourites.

We all want what we don't have and tend to ignore what is our own... I guess its a similar situation in Britain -- where curry is the national dish, there is a China Town in every big city and most of us have a rack of spices at home. Sam's Chop House reminds us how ridiculously good, yet simple a true English meal can be.

Ahh the good old roast chicken, a mouth-watering Sausage and Mash and a warm pie, definitely makes my heart melt. The beauty of a British cuisine is that it sounds very simple but it is also equally easy to screw it up. Sam's Chop house has definitely mastered the art and rightly so because this is one of the oldest pubs in Manchester where the famous Mr Lowry had his supper and pint! You can see a human size statue of Lowry right at the bar (if you have a one too many to drink then you might just confuse the statue to be a real man). They have a great selection and range of beers; my German flat-mate was extremely impressed to find her favorite beer from her native country here. This place is a good example of British Fine Dining, as it stands tall (should really call it short as it's in the basement) right in the fine dining capital of Manchester (Kings Street). I am actually big fan of Mr Sam's neighbor (Chaophraya) too.

The food is on the expensive side, be ready to shell out a minimum of 20 pounds to enjoy a meal for one person. I exchanged a friendly banter with the bar-man -- we spoke about different kinds of beer and the statue of Lowry.

Verdict : Love it and definitely going back again to try the Dessert because I was too full to try any last time!

Great place for a pint of Guinness and their fish and chips is very good. Steak and kidney pudding is also worth a try. Gets a little crowded from around 4pm. Staff are very friendly and seem like one of the more popular pubs in the city. Worth a trip down as it’s just a few minutes walk from the city center.

Had a nice meal here after a long work day. Staff were friendly and helpful, accommodating our group asking to be moved to a spot with a bit more room. Atmosphere was great, with the look inside being unique. Food was good, though took a bit of time to arrive. It was clear they were quite busy for a Thursday, but it was worth the wait, with everyone enjoying their meals. All in all, a nice meal, fair prices, and good times!

Nice bar. Had a corned beef and hash. Really good. The crispy bacon on the top really was perfect. Beautiful scotch egg too. The history of the pub is also incredible.

We stumbled upon this place. And the gents coming out said it was great. traditional British food just done right. I had the fish cake starter, and the steak and kidney pudding OMG! Nice glass of cab franc to go with it. So 2 people, 2 glasses of wine, 2 starters, and 2 main courses came in at 76gbp. Gratuity was added to that. I would go back in a heartbeat when I am next back in manchester

The. corned beef hash was fantastic. I heard about this place when it was recommended by Radcliffe and Mac o’Knee on radio 6. I also had the best white bait I have had in years. Can’t wait to go back and try the rest of the menu!

Great to still see a traditional pub in Manchester serving great draught beers and ciders. Good atmosphere with a brilliant statue of Lowry sat at the bar! Will definitely be trying the food next time we visit.

Flic decided to pop into this lovely pub set just off Cross St. First visit in a few years. It is a gem of a JW Lees pub with 4 real ales. Famous as the watering hole of artist LS Lowry..he permanently sits at the bar! A steep entrance leads down to a large two room pub, one dedicated to dining, the other for drinks although you can eat there. Lovely ambience. Super old stone fireplace. Have eaten here in the past. The corn beef hash is legendary.

If you are looking for traditional English pub/restaurant , with traditional English food, look no further. This is the place!!! The best food we had during our stay in Manchester was in this restaurant. Service was fantastic, which, I might say, was not the case everywhere we ate, unfortunately. I highly recommend it. P.S. appetizers didn’t make the photo 😅
