This is our favourite place ever, where we love to go when I’m not working weekends. There is nothing not to like, the wine is well kep especially the New Zealand Sauvignon, the bar food is the best ever, and if your lucky enough to book a table in the dining room you definitely won’t be disappointed. Love this place.💕
Myself and my boyfriend ate here last night, the food was absolutely amazing, service could not be faulted and the atmosphere was spot on... I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. Thank you for looking after us!
Our Evening out in Mancheaster
We went to Sam's Chop House to celebrate my husband Jim's Birthday with our son and daughter .The food and atmosphere were great and the waitress was very help full and friendly . .we have been a few times ,and for lunch ,this was the first time for evening meal but it was still lovely food ,highly recommend
Convenient for accessing The Royal Exchange Theatre. Good lunch. Friendly staff. Historical venue. A warm welcome always. Usually very busy in the bar area dining but not this day so everything arrived quickly. Great.
If you want a good meal that satisfies at reasonable prices give this place a go. I've been here before but we took some friends and you see it with fresh eyes. It really is something special this restaurant because of the cooking and its' menu. Quaint doesn't always mean old fashioned.
Prob the best pub food your get in Manchester
I ordered Sam’s Famous Home-made Corned Beef Hash. It was an experience of near-religious proportions; the corned beef hash was rich, moreish and incredibly savoury.
Much of that clubby feel remains and like it's sister (brother surely !!) restaurant, Thomas's Chop House on Cross Street maintains an exceptional wine list. They had advertised an express lunch menu , 2 courses for £11.99 , 3 courses for 13.99. The OH had a goat's cheese mousse on mixed leaves served with home made piccalilli followed by a burger , I went for the brown onion soup with a Lancashire cheese crouton, then sampled the pork faggots with apple and thyme on mashed potato. Almost OK but the the service was most definitely not express and the eventual bill with 2 orange and sodas, a glass of house red and a pint was almost double the th
A week ago today, a life-size statue of L.S. Lowry and I found ourselves the first two customers in Sam's Chop House for breakfast. Famous for his paintings of 'matchstick men' and urban and industrial landscapes, in life, Lowry was a regular at Sam's for many years. Whilst the bronze ( placed to mark the 35th anniversary of his death) propped up the bar, I enjoyed a delicious 'full English'. Not generally a fan of a hearty fried brekkie, wanting something a little lighter, I opted for 'Sam's Veggie Breakfast' over the omnivorous 'Best of British'. They also offer 'Sam's Famous Crispy Corned Beef Hash Cake' 'Eggs Benedict' 'Eggs Florentine' as well as a range of 'barms' 'porridge' and other assorted breakfast favourites.
We all want what we don't have and tend to ignore what is our own... I guess its a similar situation in Britain -- where curry is the national dish, there is a China Town in every big city and most of us have a rack of spices at home. Sam's Chop House reminds us how ridiculously good, yet simple a true English meal can be.
Ahh the good old roast chicken, a mouth-watering Sausage and Mash and a warm pie, definitely makes my heart melt. The beauty of a British cuisine is that it sounds very simple but it is also equally easy to screw it up. Sam's Chop house has definitely mastered the art and rightly so because this is one of the oldest pubs in Manchester where the famous Mr Lowry had his supper and pint! You can see a human size statue of Lowry right at the bar (if you have a one too many to drink then you might just confuse the statue to be a real man). They have a great selection and range of beers; my German flat-mate was extremely impressed to find her favorite beer from her native country here. This place is a good example of British Fine Dining, as it stands tall (should really call it short as it's in the basement) right in the fine dining capital of Manchester (Kings Street). I am actually big fan of Mr Sam's neighbor (Chaophraya) too.
The food is on the expensive side, be ready to shell out a minimum of 20 pounds to enjoy a meal for one person. I exchanged a friendly banter with the bar-man -- we spoke about different kinds of beer and the statue of Lowry.
Verdict : Love it and definitely going back again to try the Dessert because I was too full to try any last time!
Excellent Sunday roast! We got the chicken and beef one, and both were very tasty. When you come in, you have the feeling to be in a typical old pub. Service was very friendly, professional and fast. Nice selection of beers.
Recent visit to Manchester and stumbled on this little gem. For all I know it might be one of the most famous bars / restaurants in Manchester! If so it's rightfully deserved.
I had the sirloin pork steak. I have eaten chops before but never a pork steak. Was divine, so full of flavour and went down very well.
Prior to the main I had their Pork Scratchings which were out of this world, warm, salty (!) and again full of flavour. They were a treat. Definitely going to visit again when there for my next gig and going to try a steak.
My wife had the Sam's Famous Cornbeef Hash which she found delicious.
The bar is lovely and cosy, and the staff were very friendly. Had the "famous" beef hash. Food was great, but expensive for the portioning at £19.00.
Dropped into Sam's Chop house following an event we had been attending. Twas excellent, drinks, food and the service.
Indeed even "Nick" who I believe is normally playing with an abacus on the first floor , mucked in and served two excellent gin and tonics as the other staff where busy.
The place somehow had a family run feel and I would highly recommend.

Not really a good review as I never went in when it was busy but so many people have been telling me how good it is. I've said we're going to go in, in the very near future.
They did allow me in to take some photos and were very welcoming. It does look quite inviting, so I've given four stars and will update this review after I've experienced the establishment for myself 😁
There are some iconic Manchester alleyways next to it and nearby, see photos posted 😁
Sams Chop House. favourite pub of LS Lowry.
Statue in basement Feb 2011
Lawrence Stephen Lowry who did paintings of Pendlebury where he lived and worked for 40 years, and Salford.
Great to get here when it was quiet and managed to get a photo with the legend and see the pictures around the room.
Had a drink and took in the history of the famous painter.

Love this bar and chop house.
Great location and it was very well laid out.
Staff were great also.
The food here was amazing the best corned beef hash in the world yummy 🤤
The restaurant needs a bit of love and I
didn't have too much expectations when we entered the restaurant.
But the staff was helpful, easygoing and the food made me change my mind. The food was well made and a classic dish. I tried the fish and chips as well and it was very good.
I liked the place and if I ever come back to Manchester I will pay them a visit.
Fantastic pub. We came for Sunday lunch, and all the way through the staff were lovely, both behind bar and the waiter. Nice restaurant.
The beef was delicious, and the pork was very tender. The only slight disappointment was the potatoes which were very hard (I'm sure this was a one-off), but everything else on the plate was delicious.
First time here and was extremely impressed. Steak was cooked perfectly and the red wine gravy was to die for. Lovely atmosphere, good ambient music and friendly staff.
