Glad I booked a table for my birthday Sunday afternoon because it was very busy. Food was lovely. Had the Pork sunday lunch, good portion sizes. I also had sticky toffee pudding for dessert which was gorgeous. All the staff were great. Would certainly recommend and will be visiting again.
Thank you for making my mother’s birthday extra special today with the always amazing food and the flowers it was completely unexpected and really made all of our days. Would recommend Mr Thomas Cho House to everyone, amazingly kind staff, delicious food and great atmosphere. Thank you again.
Called here on my birthday last week for a quick drink, not having visited for almost a decade. Unfortunately, it was a rare, dull Spring day, but we sat in the outside seating area, behind St Ann's Church - a very atmospheric location. A previous review says the pub forbids non-diners to sit in this area but no-one bothered us. If true, it's a ridiculous, archaic policy which the management should wisely cancel. Drinks are very expensive but only to be expected I suppose, slap-bang in the city centre.
Great atmosphere. Took son for his 20th birthday meal. We each tried something different and all exceedingly well cooked and the chips were excellent. Starters black pudding, goats cheese and gypsy egged. Mains skate wing, bacon chop, Barnsley chop, ox check and the big beef chop. We will be back.
I like this place great pub food, just stay away on a Sunday when you get an awful roast dinner for a princely £15...
Lunchtime at the Chophouse was enjoyable one. We dined from the fixed menu with 2 course for £14. I loved my bacon and treacle poached egg salad starter. It was perfectly balanced and the dressing was light and fitted well. I went with the beef burger as a main course which was superb. The burger it's self was well seasoned and packed an enjoyable meaty punch. The burger was served with salad and house fries (basically somewhere in size between a chip and a roaster!) the service was very good and the staff made a lovely fuss over my new born daughter. The only down was the mandatory 10% service charge which I had no issue in paying due to the standard of service is had but come on, it's my choice to pay service not yours to add directly to my bill!
I would certainly eat here again and would recommend it to anyone looking for some quality traditional English cuisine.
Good Sunday lunch menu portions are a good size and service can be a little hit and miss although it was no busy. I have been before a few time the atmosphere was a little dull but the was because there weren’t many people around. Food great as usual I always recommend the Corned Beef Hash. Good choice of wins by the glass I can recommend the Tempranillo. Desserts are good couldn’t eat much more so shared one between us.
Some of the recent reviews were worrying but everything was fine. The restaurant is very old school and well maintained, though the men's toilet is missing a lock. The fish and chips were good, including the mushy peas. The kids roast beef was good though portions perhaps a bit too big. My pie was probably slightly disappointing by comparison.
A small restaurant set back behind a bar, but don't let that put you off. Their friendly staff serve hot, tasty food of very generous portion sizes. We were very pleasantly surprised and both said we'd be back. The corned beef hash took me back to childhood! Recommended.
One of the best sunday roasts I’ve had in a pub, and the beef is soooooo tender it literally melts in your mouth, absolutely loved it.
The only thing I would mention is, £4 for a little bottle of coke?? And 13% service charge?
I visit this pub frequently because I enjoy the cozy atmosphere. However, I've only dined here once. I was in the mood for traditional pub food, and I can wholeheartedly recommend this place if you're looking for that. However, my expectations were quite high due to the relatively high prices of the main courses on the menu (in comparison to the average price of a pub meal). I ordered the Steak and Ale Pie, which was good. Unfortunately, the chips that came as a side dish with the main course weren't great. Overall, I might have rated the food more favourably if I found the value for money to be consistent with my expectations. Nevertheless, I plan to return because the service was very friendly, and the atmosphere is pleasant, even when dining alone.
lovely place, lovely staff, expensive but I think that's part of the experience lol - the cider & onion soup was amazing!!!!
Travelling around Manchester and found this pub that serves Lamb Hot Pot. Absolutely delicious! The Toffee pudding is also very good, with a very strong toffee taste in it. 10/10 food!
Highly recommended. Food is great, beers and superb!
Beautiful place, amazing waiters!
A must go when in Manchester !
Booked here as always enjoyed the food on previous occasions and it was close to the Opera House where we were heading.
Mum had the corned beef hash which I'd recommended and she thoroughly enjoyed it and I had the lamb hotpot. This was lovely but not sure about the pickled red cabbage, left a funny taste in my mouth.
We had the white zinfandel which was a beautiful rose wine and for dessert mum had the sorbet which she said was lovely and refreshing whilst I had the chocolate brownie with pistachio ice cream on a bed of roasted pistachio nuts...omg this was delicious, the brownie was all gooey inside just how a brownie should be.
Service was good, friendly and informative staff.
Definitely recommend this place.
