This was my 3rd stay at Designate @ the gate. My first time was for a hen weekend (12 of us) post covid and we had the most amazing time. Party in the beach garden with great food and drinks.
2nd time with the other half, we had a lovely relaxing weekend and this time with my 2 daughters who loved the quirky/cosy left room. We enjoyed a pack lunch from Kirsty on our walk and ate at The Fishpond and The Remarkable Hare, both recommended.
I’ll definitely be back for a 4th time.
Love it here xx

We absolutely loved our stay in the snug, it was clean, spacious and gloriously quirky. Kirsty and Andy hosted our wedding reception for us and have been outstanding from start to finish. The food was gorgeous, the setting was beautiful and the service was top tier. A lot of our guests commented on how great it is there and how it was a perfect venue for an intimate wedding. We really felt looked after by Kirsty and Andy, they were really friendly, they helped us get set up and tidied up for us after, i feel they offered the best service throughout and we couldnt be anymore thankful to them. Thank you so much for the best time.

Top venue for wedding nights, birthday partys etc. Outside space is stunning with a 'beach'. There's 3 superb overnight rooms that sleep 5 upwards in each. Kirsty and Andy provide an insanely warm welcome.

Glad we dropped in for a drink, based on a recommendation from a local. Really nice place, friendly staff, great beer, chilled out atmosphere. Look forward to sampling the food next time I'm visiting.

Just had a great ukelele workshop weekend. Really well organised and good fun. A lovely interesting venue with good food all home cooked and a good bar! Would recommend a visit - look on the website for events.

Wow! We booked the private room for 11 of us to gather together and ordered the tapas menu. Seriously, there was so much food we didn’t eat all of it and we can eat! One of our party is a self confessed fuss pot, she was able to order a pizza, and another is gluten intolerant, and was catered for without question. When one of our party was unable to come at the last minute, there was no problem! The atmosphere was just like being at home, the fire was lit, there are armchairs to relax in and Kirsty and her husband were the perfect hosts, attentive without being intrusive. A wonderful venue, definitely worth a visit. 10/10

A group of us went to Designate and had a fabulous tapas style menu in the cosy private room with comfy sofas and open fire - it really was like the comforts of home with none of the cleaning and washing up. The food was delicious and varied and Kirsty was really accommodating about different dietary requests, last minute changes and making us feel really welcome and relaxed. Nothing was too much trouble. It ticked all our boxes and we had a fantastic time - will definitely go again!

Really lovely spot with great food and atmosphere. Extremely nice staff. We had a lovely evening next to the fire at their film night. Definately worth making the walk from town.
