Magpies Bistro Cafe

Good place to go for delicious vegan, veggie & gluten free food choices including hot meals, salads, breakfasts & homemade cake. Good selection of hot and cold drinks, including Fentamens. Service was friendly & relatively quick. Dogs not allowed in the cafe, but there is outdoor seating so could be allowed there. On-street parking available, but cafe is on busy high street so you would be lucky to get a spot. Public parking available behind the cafe in the co-op pay & display carpark. Would have got 5 stars, but for the music playing that was quite loud & meant you had to raise your voice when having a conversation & there is no wifi available. We had a very pleasant experience at Magpies. Honestly, regardless of whether you are vegetarian/vegan or not, this is one of the best places to eat in Minehead. The choices on the menu are such that you don't miss meat and fish. The standard menu offers burgers, quesadillas and sandwiches among other things, and the daily specials offer things like curries, pies and soup. Plenty of vegan options are available. Prices across the board are good- you can get a lunch meal with a drink for approximately £10 a head. Given the generous portion sizes and side salads (if anything, the portion sizes are too much) provided with each meal, and the quality of the food, this is great value. Drinks are often put aside in such restaurants that focus on food, but here this isn't the case. The smoothies are delicious (I particularly enjoyed 'Berrylicious') and the choco peanut frappé we ordered was a thing of beauty. Highly recommended spot should you be looking for breakfast/lunch in Minehead.

Finally found the wonderful chef and original staff from the Toucan. Visited today and though we weren’t ready to eat a full meal we were overjoyed to see the staff with their usual inspiring healthy food and wonderful cakes! We loved our cream teas. Fabulous food for vegans and vegetarians and loved by meat eaters too! Wishing them huge success in their new premises!! Can’t wait to go back!
