What a lovely stay, cannot recommend this place enough, our room was lovely and immaculate, lovely home made cookies and coffee maker in room and lots of lovely touches.
Our meal was amazing, everything looked and tasted so good and breakfast was just as tasty on the whole a very special place and would do it all again given the chance �
A fabulous meal, great people and value for money. My only (minor) negative was that it would have been nice to have seen crisp white linens on the tables (rather than bare wood) - however, that is about "horses for courses" and personal preference and did not detract from the overall experience in any way. Can do nothing but recommend it to others. :-)
...first course proper was a creamy cauliflower velouté jewelled with floating goodies – flakes of smoked haddock, a silky quail’s egg which slipped down the hatch in one and pieces of cauliflower which I felt were just a touch too al dente.
If the guides are to be believed, Wales is not well served by quality restaurants. At the start of this year, Wales could lay claim to only four Michelin starred venues, the same number as Gloucestershire. To compound this culinary gap, The Crown at Whitebrook, my personal favourite in Wales from 2012, recently announced a shock closure: then there were three. With both Tyddyn Llan and The Walnut Tree already on the blog, we felt compelled to visit The Checkers. But there's another reason for visiting The Checkers, one that makes this not just a visit of curiosity, but one to be relished: the chef's pedigree. While any chef that has done even a two day stage at The Fat Duck now sees it headline their CV, there's another restaurant in Bray, one that we totally adore, and one that equally demands the highest standards of their staff: The Waterside Inn . Holding three Michelin stars for 27 years, accepting what they seek to do, classic French cooking, the food there is perfect. Stephane

Quirky bedroom, but quiet at night and pleasant nonetheless.

WOW!, it was my wife’s 65th birthday and I wanted to make it special. We found this incredible gem and the food and wine were just fabulous! Tasting menu and accompanying wines were a memorable experience to treasure.
My wife said she’d never had such amazing Scallops. The whole menu was a symphony on our taste buds, perfectly cooked and presented. All I can say is, if there is someone in your life that you want to spoil or celebrate a special occasion, then go the extra mile, Checkers is the place for you.

A really lovely restaurant with rooms in the middle of the town. Everything about the dining area is fantastic, nice lounge area with a roaring log burner, comfortable chairs, well spaced tables and lovely decor. We loved the art and the retained timber framing and beams. The food was outstanding and the service superb. Our room was spacious and well appointed but you did need to duck to avoid the low beams. A great experience, we will be going back.
Had a lovely experience having a tasting menu dinner here last night. Expect 3 hours of great food and wine being brought by lovely and welcoming staff.

Outstanding restaurant in the centre of Montgomery. Since it offers fine dining, not advised for a quick meal but it is well worth the wait. The staff was nice and helpful, the interior design is modern and tasteful. I ate a smoked eel and apple starter, herb risotto main and panna cotta dessert, all of them were excellent.
Amazing food, and accommodation. Tasting menu was excellent with every course being memorable. The highlight was the plaice with laverbread risotto.
Great choice for breakfast with the bacon, black pudding and smoked salmon all being highlights.
Beautiful 6 course tasting menu for lunch today provided by a calm & attentive team in a lovely environment. It can be stressful eating out when you have coeliac disease. I've eaten at many a place that has been pre-warned but that have struggled, including a Michelin 2* restaurant, but this was a totally stress free occasion with all dishes adapted & a confident team providing reassurance. Will definitely be back.
Really good meal, and service was great, we felt really looked after. The food was very well presented and delicious. It was quiet when we went (only one other table), and for a 5 star atmosphere it would have been nice to have more people around, but you cant really blame the restaurant for that - come on people what are you waiting for 😁.
Would definitely recommend the taster menu and we will very likely be back in the future

We had the most wonderful evening of fine food and wine with impeccable service. Beautiful restaurant and bedroom. We will certainly return and would highly recommend this little gem.
