I love everything about this place. The atmosphere is s quaint, the food was delicious and the staff were helpful and friendly. This was my first experience with fish and chips during my trip to the UK from the US. I don’t normally eat fish but this was absolutely delicious!
Had many a bag of chips from here and never been disappointed. Just the sort of comfort food that is needed after a walk around the town. Plenty of benches to sit at along the green, or sit on the steps of the war memorial, and enjoy the envious glares from the passing traffic as everyone is trying, and failing, to rush through the town. Great work, Mermaid Fish Bar :)
Oddly I was there on the same Friday as one of the other reviewers. I also waited 20+ minutes to get served because there was a sizeable queue stretching along the street - which I took as a good sign! We all thought our food was good: crispy batter, moist fish, loads of chips, mushy peas on point, curry sauce tasty and - contrary to another review - the staff were very friendly, especially given how busy it was.
One star off for only taking cash though!
Anyway, we were there for a campervan rally and often pick up F&C on the way to a site and this one was good enough to have a return visit if we are ever in the area again.
Friendly welcome. Food was amazing. The best fish & chips we'd had in a while. The curry sauce is a MUST. Very reasonably priced.
A bit of a wait as the food was cooked fresh to order (it was just before closing and still busy) but absolutely worth it. Staff were very friendly and obviously focussed on providing quality, and the food was delicious (my only complaint is the portions were too big!)
Delicious fish and chips! I come here anytime I'm in the Cotswolds. They have all the trimmings and they don't mind making me crispy chips! It's a winner for me
Friendly, happy, helpful, go out of their way to help! Even when they ran out of chicken nuggets for my little boy they went out of the way and made something different. Then when we went in a second time remembered what he wanted. Definitely recommend ad will be going back.
We only had a tray of chips and curry sauce but it was memorably delicious, hot and generous. Top chippy.
The wait was definitely worth it. Honestly the best fish I’ve had in the UK. Lovely fresh fish, perfectly cooked and a light batter. Absolutely incredible ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Haddock is one of the best!!!! Soooo big and fresh! Chicken nugget and scampi is alright.... not as impressed as fish! Highly recommend to come there for the fish!
