My husband and I enjoyed a fabulous meal here for our date night. Usually with a steak and wine deal the wine is normally cheep and nasty. Not in this case. The wine was delicious and complemented the dish perfectly. The cheese board was to die for. Again delicious and the cheese was local and welsh. The staff were very friendly and not overly intrusive. We will be visiting again.
Lovely meal - as always. I had pumpkin risotto which was absolutely delicious and definitely the dish of the table. My desert was a flaming creme brûlée - again lovely. My only minor criticism is that it was served with a tiny amount of fruit and coulis - I've have liked more. Service was great - mine came in at £23 for two courses and a shared starter plus wine on top.
In response, we always welcome any sort of feedback but would like to highlight that the majority of our menu is homemade including homemade chips and homemade beer batter for our cod which is priced very reasonably. In addition to our menu we always offer a specials board. current vegetarian dishes include homemade vegetarian chilli, vegetable lasagne a very popular mushroom and mozzarella burger with red onion chutney and tonights special as an example is homemade spinach and aubergine Madras. We do pride ourselves on good customer service and feel it is important to have knowledgeable friendly staff. In response to to the comment regarding the wait for food, this has actually nothing to do with the number of staff on duty but sadly the kitchen is very restricted regarding size due to the fact that the pub dates back to the 1700's and this restriction is evident during very busy times when we do have an unavoidable wait for food but we always try to advise the customer if there is such a wait.
Rated as a 4* but it’s really a 3.5.
Our food didn’t quite live up to the high expectations that we had for the Plough and Harrow.
Some of the food was really good, but other dishes were a little disappointing and I could personally have cooked better at home. (Eg the curried leg of lamb - the meat was slightly dry, the curry sauce was too thick and sparse to counter the meat and the curry flavour didn’t seem to have penetrated into the lamb - suggesting that it hadn’t been marinated for long enough. Oh and the accompanying onion bhajis were pretty rubbish!)
Good dishes were things like the scotch egg starter and the Japanese themed lamb.
The service was ok, pretty good from most members of the waiting staff. A little slow for staff to return to take dessert orders which was unsurprising as we were tucked out of the way, but slightly annoying as we had kids who needed to get home to bed.
Overall, I wouldn’t be expecting the best food on the Gower, I think there are a few places we’re you can get something better. But it’s worth a visit and the atmosphere and buzz is good.
Nice little pub with an excellent menu. I have the scotch eggs are start and my wife has the arancini follow by by the salmon and the duck. Both excellent.
I have not been to this place in so long, that I am sure the last time I visited it was not as fancy as it felt this time.
I was alittle confused because the food was so tasty, and felt so upmarket. Yet we had shouting locals sat at the bar as if it was still the traditional drinkers/workermans type pub.
The prices can be alittle off putting for what you get, especially when you only get 1 Confit Potato. My feedback would be there they should provide more for the price.
This didn't bother me too much, because the food was honestly sublime! The only thing that really did bother me and causes the 4/5 star was the lack of parking.
Chose to come here for our Ruby wedding anniversary lunch. So delighted we did. The food was exceptional (curried lamb shank for him, slow cooked overnight roast pork for me) and both were delicious. With the meal was either a complimentary starter or dessert . The service was wonderful and a special thank you to Cerys for her kindness and friendliness. Altogether we had a very memorable experience.
Great lunch on a quiet Saturday. Excellent friendly service. Mains were delicious : salmon and a lovely japanese influenced Welsh lamb. Good selection of beer and wine. Very quiet as Storm Antoni was also in town. I'd recommend a visit.
Unbelievable! Amazing Gastro-pub style food. I was very impressed. They catered for our toddler, and also didn't mind having our new born baby and pram. Great lunchtime deals on the menu. Will definitely be coming back. 5 stars
Consistently stunning food every time we visit. Everything is full of flavour and well portioned. If you enjoy good quality food then make sure you make time to come here. My personal favourite has to be the pork but on my last visit I tried the steak which was just as amazing. Whatever you choose from the menu you will definitely enjoy it.
It's been far too long since our last visit but we had another wonderful meal here last night. Perfect cockle and laverbread arancini and a huge scotch egg to start, followed by two perfectly cooked steaks with skin on chips. Great service and atmosphere as always. Thank you very much. 😊
Stopped in for an early dinner after exploring in the countryside. Staff were very friendly and the food was excellent. Would love to stop in for a Sunday roast if I’m back here again.
We're lucky to live a few minutes down the road from the Plough. The food and service are always excellent and the friendly staff went out of their way to accommodate my children and also my elderly father on a recent visit. The Plough is streets ahead of local competition and a real asset for the community.
