We visited the cafe at Lune Spring Nurseries while walking in the area and were glad to be able to stop for half an hour to take a break and have some lunch.
The first thing I should say about this cafe is the excellent value of the food and drinks. Lunch for four of us was around £25, and despite this being fairly cheap in comparison to most cafes, the quality and portion sizes were not compromised and were 'just right' for us and presented nicely. Two of us had some cake after lunch which was also really tasty and great value.
It was a really lovely day when we visited so we sat outside on a picnic-style table in the well-kept garden. For when the weather is less nice (it is Cumbria after all) there are a couple of tables inside. I should mention that when sitting outside, as the garden is located near to a fairly busy road you do get the noise of cars going past which was one negative of the experience. That said, this is a fairly minor point and doesn't really have an impact on the experience.
When we visited, we were served by a man (who I presume was the owner) and he was not only very friendly but also had a 'nothing is too much trouble' attitude to him which helped us to have a really good experience.
In summary, it was difficult to decide between a 4/5 and 5/5 when giving an overall rating as in terms of value for money and service it would quite easily be a 5/5. However, while the cafe is 'charming', it does feel slightly dated in some areas and there are better, more modern independent cafes which probably have slightly better food and cakes and more up-to-date equipment to make coffees in other areas. That said, please don't let that put you off this lovely little cafe which is perfect for anyone who wants a quick stop off on a long-journey or is walking or cycling in the local area.
Beautiful little cafe in a stunning setting. Just visited with my girlfriend for a tea - the man serving was lovely welcoming and chatty and the views from the conservatory were really calming. Will be back
