We had a fantastic meal at Harissa. The Amble squid was so fresh it could have jumped off the plate. Special mention should go to the chicken souvlaki which was amazing with a truly spectacular house salad. Yummy. Found out it was a social enterprise as well - which makes dining out even more special. Good excuse to try the puds. It was a bit empty early on but soon filled up. Great quality food for a local community based restaurant. Massive step up from the local pizza competition. We’ll be back!

Tried it as we live nearby. Nice amount of vegetarian options, flavours were soooo good! Such nice tastes mixed together. Will definitely be returning.

Called in this evening on the off chance they could do a table for 2, as it was a Friday evening and very busy. There were no tables available but they said we could sit and eat at the bar if we would like too - which we did. First thing we noticed was how friendly the staff were even though they were so busy. We chose 3 courses for 25.00pp and we had the most yummy fresh locally sourced food, the flavours were delicious and each course was cooked to order - no reheating in a microwave here. Delicious bottle of wine but I have to say we found it quite expensive compared to when we buy it, but this was the only fault we could find. Overall a thoroughly enjoyable meal and will we come back the next time we are in the area ?? Yes definitely !!!

I really want to sing their praises as the staff were amazing in every way. However I was disappointed. Other folk may have found.it different to how we found it. The noise level was very bad. It was just people having a nice time but we had to shout at each other to hold any kind of conversation. The food lacked balance. Humus starter was the size of a container I would usually buy for the family and came with a spoon. The accompanying pita was very nice but only 2 small pieces. The olives were few and the spicy sauce was too hot. The organic chicken didn’t taste of much as it was formed as a kebab and flavour and texture. It felt like a cheap kebab. The wine was warm not chilled The side salad was nice. Loved the pomegranate. The cauliflower was just cooked. The gnocchi was small serving with no sauce and so on. The atmosphere was nice and felt comfortable if you could handle the noise. Given the price. Not dear but not cheap. Even the veggie main courses were in keeping with meat prices. Limited selection and choice it wasn’t what I hoped it would be. So sorry but I won’t be going back. I still believe it has real potential to be better.

Flavoursome food, relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff. I would recommend a visit if you like south med/North African cuisine. We walked from the town centre and it took 20 mins or 4/5 mins in a taxi! If you want to try different away from the main chains come here!

Great options for vegetarians and meat eaters. Friendly service but long wait for food. Having said that it was all nicely cooked and the drinks selection was good.

Came for dinner before seeing Gerry Cinnamon, so we didn’t have a lot of time. There was a wide selection to choose from and plenty of choice for my daughter who is a vegetarian. Food was cooked to perfection and the server was pleasant and very helpful, even offering to call us a taxi.

This is a lovely little restaurant in Sandyford, Newcastle. We went for an early dinner and were served by a friendly young lady who was knowledgable about the items on offer. The Chargrilled Yorkshire Halloumi with Medjool dates, walnuts, dill and apple was a delicious starter. The two main course vegetarian dishes we chose were equally good. First rate food and service. One criticism - the wine we had was average and at £22 we thought it was too expensive.

From a recommendation in the Waitrose Food Magazine(!) we decided to visit this wonderful sounding restaurant tucked away just outside of Newcastle. We had such a friendly, warm welcome from the lovely waitress, who was very helpful advising on dishes. The food was SO delicious - every small and large plate we had was exceptional. Do try the Muhammara (red pepper dip), the squid, prawns and hummus as starters and highly recommended for one of the mains would be the harissa roasted cauliflower. I would go back every week if I lived closer!!

Very popular place and rightly so. There is only a short menu but we liked the sound of everything on it. It has both small meze plates ( which we had as starters ) and larger ones. They locally source as much as possible and all profits are fed back into Food Nation , an organisation which aims to give the city a healthy and sustainable food culture, so not only are you getting lovely ,freshly prepared food, served by lovely people ( thank you to Joanna , who served us ) you are also making a small contribution to a worthy enterprise. We can't recommend this place highly enough !

Harissa is a stylish and comfortable restaurant with friendly staff, a tempting and creative menu and tasty food. Everything is beautifully presented and the commitment to the provenance and quality of the food is apparent. There are a number of regular pop-up events held here so I'm keen to explore these too. I'll definitely be back.

Visited here with my partner and we were really impressed with the food and drinks selection. The menu is small but really tasty! Very reasonably priced and I will definitely be visiting again. Highly recommended!

So , choir ladies night out . Highly recommended by one of our number . Not a huge menu , but for main courses quite enough . Between us we had the chicken and lamb , each on a flatbread; and the meze with lots of tasty bits . We asked for halloumi and tapenade as extras . The service was quite relaxed , but we were comfortable and chatting . When the food came , it looked and tasted really lovely . However ; I was really hungry and it was not a portion to fill up on . So I decided to have a pudding ! Choice two with dairy and one chocolate . I can’t do dairy and don’t like chocolate !! ( the chip shop opposite , started to look really good !) The food was delicious and fresh and very tasty ....... but several of us could have eaten more . I thought it was a bit expensive for the portion size . I had a very nice light beer . As a group we had a nice time .

Went with my Mam who needs a wheelchair. Staff were charming and helpful. The meze was tasty, fresh and healthy but I’m not sure about the precooked cold shredded lamb ‘kofta’. Great lager from Casablanca.

I came here with my brother and boyfriend and we all really enjoyed our meals! It’s a small restaurant so there is not an awful lot of privacy but it’s nice and cosy. It is quite expensive so I would recommend it for a special occasion. The vegetarian options are great and our the food was very tasty. Service was a bit slow but considering it was a busy weekend, it didn’t affect what I thought had about the restaurant!

Ate at Harissa this evening after my son reviewed restaurants on tripadvisor.....always like to support independent restaurants and new cuisine. Wonderful atmosphere, decor and staff, food was amazing, had the falafel and halloumi small plates, all served will beautiful garnishes. Would have stayed for dessert but had to go, next time. Highly recommend this little gem.

Have been twice and don’t know why we don’t go more! Delicious food and importantly, great local beers (bottle mind, not cask) Great for veggies, although I’d like to see some more hot tapas type dishes or full bowls. Great venue. Lovely feel to the interior.

Had the mezze sharers between 4 adults and 2 toddlers and the staff were more than happy to recommend extras. Everything was delicious, particularly the veggie shwarma. Will definitely return.

My son treat me to a meal here for my birthday, from the moment we arrived we were made so welcome , the staff went the extra mile. We had small plates of lamb, trout , humus, olives, warm bread, and the most beautiful chicken wrap. Lovely cocktails and a good beer selection. All of this and at a reasonable price.
