The food was excellent, my grouse was cooked to perfection but I have to say my starter was beautiful. The drop of one star was for not having the wine we wanted from the menu. Service was very friendly though a little shaky but I put that down to possibly being some new staff members.
How to put this in more than.. Excellent venue with a canny bar line up, a cracking selection of beers, cider, wine & spirits.. as for food.. I only tried a couple o bar snacks, which were canny (would like to try some of the proper food menu.. maybe on a return visit) & there is a tremendous beer y
The food here was gorg, everything was so nice and i would definitely go back. The mushrooms on toast were delish and the fish mains were also great.
Had excellent food there, the service was great, I would have gone back if I had stayed longer in Newcastle. Sadly we were not hungry enough to try more dishes.
To say this is pub food would be giving it the most massive insult. Our meal was absolutely amazing, I am renowned for not clearing my plate, but I ate Every. Single. Mouthful! I cannot recommend this place highly enough, the pub itself has an old world charm not often found in a city pub nowadays,
Great. Had bar snacks. All good but saw others and portion quite small (about small five pigs in blankets for £5.50). Some items double the price of two years ago. Has crab sandwich which was fresh - although on normal brown bread… Friend asked for hot toddy and no kettle or hot water facility - s
Excellent gastro pub! One of the best, albait on the more expensive sites in Newcastle. Everytime that we visit the food is absolutely incredible! This time we got the slow cooked roast and it didn't disappoint. Definitely check it out if you haven't already done so.
This place is everything I expected it to be. The service was fast and good. Portions were a good portion. We had the beef Sunday roast that was perfect with Yorkshire pudding that was crunchy on the outside but really fluffy on the inside. Everything was on a bed of veg and mashed sweet potato with
The Sunday lunch lives up to the reviews and recommendations, it was absolutely delicious! We got the old spot pork belly roast served with all the trimmings as well as a very tasty pork crackling stick. For dessert, both the chocolate pot (melt in the middle) and the sticky toffee pudding were amaz
When I knew we were coming up to Newcastle on holiday, this was the first restaurant I wanted to book. Just afterwards, their place in the Top 50 gastropubs of the UK was announced & I can see why. Downstairs is a bar for various craft ales & home-cooked bar snacks whilst the dining area is upstairs
We only nipped in to try out some of the bar snacks but everything was fantastic quality and incredibly delicious, we'll definitely be returning to try some of the dishes on the main menu! Do not hesitate to eat here at all 👌
Well food was very nice the only downside was the mustard served in the jar???? with a spoon should have been a small ramekin to serve it in
Always absolutely tremendous. I’ve had dinner here and Sunday lunch. It’s always great food, good beer and a good wine list. Good location, great service. It’s always a first check for a table when I visit Newcastle.
This was probably one of the best lunches I've had in a long time! We got some pig's ears and cheese bites from the bar snacks menu. For anyone a bit nervous about the pig's ears, they just tasted like really good crackling. The cheese bites were super gooey and yummy. The burger was probably up the
Really good food, lovely to see British food done so well- mostly fish and very meaty options but a couple of good veggie dishes. One small quibble: the chef’s taste for HP Sauce is extreme and certainly an outlier to mainstream preferences. One of our party ordered the haggis on toast and it was si
Good place for a beer 🍺 and the beer garden has plenty of tables and staff are very nice
I was in town for a work trip and a colleague recommended. Very nice experience overall. Dinner was served upstairs in a busy but well maintained dining room. Our service was spot on and the food was phenomenal. I started with monk fish and ordered the pork chop for my main course. Very lovely
Outstanding bar food. They have a wee menu to choose small sides off of. And they were gorgeous. Just look at my pics! The picalilli with that pie was amazing. And the monkfish cheeks were gorgeous and meaty. The scotch egg was crispy on the outside and runny inside. The sliced pigs ears were awesom
